Construction site sign printing through the life of a job
The risks on a build change every few weeks, and the signs should change with them. Here is how the range lines up with the stages most jobs go through.
Groundworks
Construction site sign printing starts in the mud. Open trenches and lifted covers catch people out. Danger Deep Excavations, Caution Drain Covers Removed, Danger Drop and Warning Sudden Drop go at the edges. If there is a pond, a flooded pit or a tank on site, add Danger Deep Water.
Going up
Once the scaffold is up, the danger moves overhead, and so does your construction site sign printing. Danger Men Working Overhead, Danger Men Working Below, Caution Falling Debris, Danger Falling Objects, Danger Overhead Crane and Danger Overhead Hazard cover the lifts and the loading bays. On roofs, the Caution Fragile Roof and Warning Fragile Roof signs belong at every access point.
Fit-out and finishing
Caution Wet Paint, Mind Your Step, Danger Unsafe Structure and Warning Unauthorised Lift Machine Access Forbidden keep people safe inside as trades overlap.
All the way through
Keeping the public out is the one construction site sign printing job that runs from day one to handover. Keep Out, Trespassers Will Be Prosecuted, No Unauthorised Entry and Unauthorised Entry Is Strictly Prohibited go on the fence line. Caution Construction Entrance and Hazard Caution Concealed Entrance help at the gate.
What the colours and shapes mean
With construction site sign printing, workers from anywhere should be able to read a site sign without reading the words. Yellow triangles flag a hazard. A red circle with a slash bans something. A blue circle is an instruction you must follow. Where a matching ISO 7010 symbol exists, such as W008 for a drop or W015 for an overhead load, the product page shows the code so you can tick it off against your risk assessment. Messages with no symbol are clear text signs. The colours and ISO 7010 guide has more.
Board choice and sizes
Correx is light fluted plastic that cable ties straight to Heras panels and survives rain, so it suits signs you move as the site changes. Foamex is rigid and smooth, good for welfare units and inside the shell. Dibond stays flat outdoors and screws to hoarding or posts on longer projects. Every design in this construction site sign printing range is landscape, priced live in the size table near the top of the page.
Distance is the deciding factor. An A3 sign reads from about 12 m, A2 about 17 m and A1 about 24 m. In poor light or on a big site, go up a size.
Wording, custom signs and timings
These are ready-made designs, so there is nothing to upload. If your site needs a message we don't list, or your company name on the sign, send the wording and size through get a quote. For supplied artwork on rigid boards, allow 3 mm bleed and keep text 10 mm inside the trim; a real person checks every uploaded file for free.
For construction site sign printing from this range, signs are ready to dispatch 5 working days after your order and artwork are confirmed. They are made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10; Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. See the delivery page.
Finish the site pack
Put site safety boards at the main entrance, site safety banners on the Heras fencing and site traffic signs for lorries and pedestrians.
Construction Site Signs: questions answered
Why are some site signs yellow and others red, blue or green?
Each colour has a job. A yellow triangle edged in black warns of a hazard. A red ring with a slash bans something. A blue circle tells you to do something, such as put on a hard hat. Green points people towards first aid or a safe exit.
How big should a sign on the site fence be?
Think about how far back people stand. A3 landscape can be read from roughly 12 metres, A2 from about 17 and A1 from about 24. Gates and fence lines normally need A1. A3 is usually enough beside a door, at the foot of a ladder or where people get onto a roof.
Which signs will my building job need?
Your risk assessment decides. Typical ones include boundary signs telling the public to keep out, PPE instructions at the gate, and hazard warnings wherever a particular risk remains, such as fragile roofs, open excavations or people working overhead.
What is the little ISO 7010 code printed on each sign?
It refers to the worldwide standard for safety symbols. The first letter tells you the type: W means warning, P prohibition and M mandatory. The number picks out the symbol. W008, for instance, is the fall hazard drawing on our fragile roof and excavation signs.
Will these signs cope outside for a whole build?
In Correx or Dibond, yes. 3.5mm Correx is waterproof and light, ideal when signs move around as the job changes. 3mm Dibond keeps flat through long projects. Save 3mm Foamex for cabins, welfare units and other indoor spots.
