Totem Printing

Totem printing gives you a tall, freestanding cardboard tower printed in full colour, for a shop floor, a reception, a school open evening or the corner of an exhibition stand. There are three models, Sidney, Totem 3 Small Cardboard and Tribeca, on doublewall or single E flute board, with gloss, matt or no lamination. They weigh next to nothing, stand up in minutes and can be ordered from a single tower up to 200.

Totems (totem printing)

A billboard the size of a person

Floor space is precious. A totem takes up about as much as someone standing still, but gives you a printed surface taller than most visitors, readable from more than one side. Stick one in the middle of a shop aisle for a seasonal offer, by the lift in an office lobby to point people to a launch, or at the end of a stand where two aisles meet. Cardboard keeps it light enough for one person to carry, which is half the appeal of totem printing for small teams.

Totem printing: pick the model

Everything here is one product, Cardboard Totem Displays, in three models: Sidney, Totem 3 Small Cardboard and Tribeca. They run from 330 × 1610 × 300 mm to 600 × 2000 × 350 mm (width × height × depth), and each model's dimensions and live price are in the size table near the top of the page. A rough rule:

  • Slotting between shelves, a doorway or a busy stand corner: go for the slimmer end of the range.
  • Getting noticed across a big hall or a crowded shop: the tallest model, so the top clears heads and shelving.
  • Several spots, one campaign: order a few of the same model so they all match. Totem printing runs from 1 up to 200.

Board and finish in plain words

There are two cardboards. Doublewall E+E flute at 2.3 mm has two layers of fluting, so it's stiffer and copes better with being handled, carried between venues or leant on by a bored teenager. Cardboard E flute at 1.4 mm is thinner and lighter, fine for a short promotion that stays in one place.

Then the finish: leave it unlaminated, or add gloss or matt lamination. Lamination protects the print from scuffs, fingers and trolley bumps, so it's worth it in a busy public space. Gloss makes colours pop; matt cuts glare under strong shop lighting.

Artwork tips for totem printing

  • Set up the file for the exact model you order. The three have different dimensions, so a Sidney layout won't fit a Tribeca.
  • Put your brand or the main offer high up, where it's seen over people's heads and the tops of shelves.
  • Make each face work alone. Most people only see one side as they pass.
  • Add bleed and keep words clear of folds and edges.

Totem printing turnaround and delivery

Standard production for totem printing is 5 working days, or 8 on saver, counted from when your order and artwork are confirmed. There's no express option on these, so plan around your launch or show date. Every totem is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. Full terms are on the delivery page, and larger runs can get a quote.

Build the stand around it

A totem is rarely on its own. Pair totem printing with a promotional counter to hand things out from, a printed cloth from tablecloths and runners for a borrowed trestle, and a backdrop behind the lot. The wider exhibition displays range has banner stands too.

Totems: questions answered

How big are the cardboard totems?

Three models, from a slim 330 mm wide tower up to a 600 mm wide one. Heights are roughly 1.6 m, 1.85 m and 2 m. Each has its own product page with its exact width, height and depth, plus today's price.

Which cardboard is best for a totem we will use again?

Go for Doublewall E+E flute, 2.3 mm thick, which is the sturdier board and copes better with handling and repeat use. The thinner E flute, at 1.4 mm, weighs less and is fine for a short promotion or one event.

Can a cardboard totem have a protective finish?

Yes. Choose gloss lamination, matt lamination or no finish. A laminated surface resists scuffs and fingerprints, which helps in busy shops, school receptions and exhibition halls.

Can I pay extra to get a totem faster?

There is no express option on totems. Standard takes 5 working days and saver 8, counted from when your artwork is agreed. If you have an event date, order early enough to cover production and delivery.
