Printed Business Card

A printed business card is still the fastest way to leave your name behind: tucked into a customer's hand after a quote, dropped into a shopping bag, pinned to a café noticeboard. This range goes from everyday 85 x 55 mm silk cards to square, kraft, recycled, plastic, foil, spot UV and chunky 810gsm triplex. Pick the card first, then the finish, then a quantity from 50 (25 for plastic) up to 5,000.

What a card has to do

A plumber scribbles the date of a follow-up visit on the back. A hairdresser pops one in with the change so the client rebooks. A market trader leaves a stack by the till for people who want to order later. A printed business card has one job in each of those moments: stay in a pocket or purse long enough to be found again. Weight, feel and finish all help with that, which is why this range is wider than you might expect.

Which printed business card for which person

  • You want a solid, sensible card: Business Cards, 85 x 55 mm on 350gsm or 450gsm silk, unlaminated or with matt, gloss or soft touch lamination.
  • You write appointments on them: Uncoated Business Cards in brown kraft, textured, smooth white, natural or recycled, with square or rounded corners. Pen and pencil take nicely.
  • You want to stand out in a wallet: Square Business Cards at 55 × 55 mm.
  • You care about the planet: Recycled Business Cards, or Creative Paper Business Cards on woven bamboo, hemp blend, textured linen, pearl, cotton or kraft.
  • You want weight: Triplex Business Cards, 810gsm, with a coloured core (eleven colours) sandwiched between white or kraft outer layers.
  • You want shine: Metallic Foil Business Cards in gold, silver, copper or red foil with soft touch lamination, or Spot UV Business Cards with a raised gloss layer on one or both sides.
  • You want it to survive a van dashboard: Plastic Business Cards, 86 × 54 mm white PVC at 570 or 760 micron, up to credit card thickness.

Printed business card finishes in plain words

Silk card is smooth with a slight sheen. Matt lamination calms that down; gloss makes colours jump; soft touch feels almost velvety and guards the print against scuffs. Uncoated card has no coating at all, so it feels like good paper and takes a biro. Foil is real metallic foil pressed onto the card. Spot UV adds a clear, raised gloss just where you want it, like over a logo, so it catches the light when someone tilts the card.

Printed business card sizes and quantities

Most cards are the UK standard 85 x 55 mm; several also come as 55 × 55 mm squares, and plastic cards are 86 × 54 mm, landscape or portrait. Quantities run from 50 up to 5,000, or from 25 for plastic. Live prices for popular options are in the size table near the top of the page.

Getting your printed business card artwork right

  • Send a print-ready PDF at finished size with 3 mm bleed on every edge.
  • Keep words at least 3 mm inside the trim so nothing gets shaved off.
  • Read the phone number out loud before you order. Then get someone else to.

Upload a print-ready file, lay it out in the free online designer, or book our paid artwork service (typesetting from your text, full design from a brief, or a logo redraw), which includes 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A real person checks every uploaded file for free. See the artwork guidelines.

Timing and delivery

Each product page shows its own production days for saver, standard and express, counted in working days from when your artwork is confirmed. Plastic, foil and triplex cards take a little longer than plain silk. Every printed business card is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. See the delivery page. To match your printed business card with the rest of your paperwork, add letterheads and compliment slips.

Business Cards: questions answered

What size is a normal business card?

The standard UK card measures 85 by 55 mm. If you prefer a square, it is 55 mm each way, offered on textured, recycled, foil and triplex stocks. Plastic cards are slightly different at 86 by 54 mm, landscape or portrait.

Is 450gsm worth it over 350gsm?

Both are silk card, smooth with a soft sheen. 450gsm is thicker and feels sturdier in the hand, which makes a nice first impression. 350gsm is the everyday weight and is plenty for most small businesses, clubs and freelancers.

I want to handwrite appointment times on my cards. Which stock?

Go uncoated: kraft, natural and smooth white all take a pen or pencil without smudging. Silk and laminated cards have a sealed surface that ink sits on top of, so they are awkward to write on.

What makes a triplex business card different?

Three sheets are bonded into one thick 810gsm card. The inner sheet is coloured, and you choose from eleven shades, so a fine line of colour peeks out round every edge. Outside, the faces are white or kraft.

Can I design my business card myself online?

Yes, for most styles, including standard, square, textured, uncoated, recycled, triplex and creative paper. Lay it out in the online designer, finish it, and the printed card will match your screen. Prefer your own software? Upload a print-ready PDF.

Will someone look at my file before it is printed?

Yes. Every uploaded file is checked by a person for resolution, size and bleed. If you design online, the card you see on screen is the card we print. Paid design includes one first draft and two rounds of changes.
