What a site asks its signs to do
Walk round any building site and the signs are doing four jobs at once. Keeping the public out. Telling the crew on the gate which PPE goes on. Getting a delivery driver to the right entrance without reversing into the welfare cabin. And, on the hoarding, telling the street who is building what. A private car park or a trade yard has the same list, minus the hard hats. Site sign printing covers all of that, sorted by the job rather than the material.
Where to start in site sign printing
- Safety at the gate and on the plot: Construction Site Signs for fragile roofs, deep water and pedestrian routes, plus big entrance notices in Site Safety Boards.
- Moving vehicles and people: Site Traffic Signs, Site Directional Signs and Speed Limit Signs, such as the 10 mph Speed Limit Sign.
- Parking: Car Park Signs and Disabled Parking Signs for private car parks, retail units and yards.
- Skips and waste streams: Site Waste Signs.
- Fence lines: Site Safety Banners on 440gsm PVC or 260gsm mesh with eyelets.
- The perimeter: Printed Hoarding Boards in the Hoardings section.
- Street events and open days: Street and Event Correx: bollard covers, lamp post wraps and toblerones, venue arrows, fence tops, A1 triangles and Correx poster boards.
Choosing boards for site sign printing
Correx at 3.5mm is fluted plastic board. It is light, shrugs off rain and costs little, so it suits signs that go up at ground-breaking and come down at handover. Foamex, in 3mm or 5mm on signs and up to 10mm on hoardings, gives a smooth, flat finish that looks smart on a cabin door or an indoor notice board. 3mm Dibond aluminium composite has aluminium skins on both faces and stays flat outdoors for years, so it is the one for a permanent car park. Not sure? The Foamex, Dibond or Correx guide lays out the differences.
Site sign printing sizes that work from a cab
Most safety, traffic and parking signs come in A3 (297 × 420 mm), A2 (420 × 594 mm) and A1 (594 × 841 mm), and some construction signs are landscape. Entrance and exit only signs are long strips from 297 × 100 mm to 594 × 200 mm. Hoarding boards come as 8 ft × 4 ft (2440 × 1220 mm), 4 ft × 4 ft (1220 × 1220 mm) and 3 ft 3 in × 3 ft 3 in (1000 × 1000 mm). A driver needs a bigger sign than someone walking up to a cabin, so size up for anything aimed at vehicles. The size table near the top of the page shows live prices.
Your own wording, and the rules
Most site sign printing products are ready-made designs: pick a size and a material and there is nothing to upload. Need your company name, a site-specific message or a design we do not list? Ask for a quote. For hoarding boards you supply the artwork at finished size with 3 mm bleed and text at least 10 mm inside the trim; the artwork guidelines have the rest. A real person checks every uploaded file for free. For what a construction site is expected to have in place, the HSE's construction guidance is the place to start, and your risk assessment decides which signs go where.
Site sign printing times and delivery
Most ready-made site signs take 5 working days on standard, express from 4 and saver 7. Street and event Correx takes 10 working days. Each product page shows its own production days, counted from when your order and artwork are confirmed. Every order for site sign printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. Items over 3 m on any side or boards bigger than A0 add £15 (street Correx is exempt). Big panels need someone on site to take them in. See the delivery page.
Site, Traffic & Hoarding Signs: questions answered
What should our site signs be printed on?
Match the board to how long the sign stays. For a job that moves on in weeks: 3.5mm Correx, light, waterproof and cheap. Yards, compounds and car parks where signs stay for years: 3mm Dibond. Indoor notices and cabins: Foamex, with hoarding boards also offered in thicker 5mm and 10mm Foamex.
Does the law say a building site must have signs?
Yes, where it matters. Under the 1996 UK regulations, if a hazard is still there after every other precaution, the employer must mark it with a sign. Working out which hazards those are is the job of your risk assessment. Free guidance on signs is published by the Health and Safety Executive.
Can a site sign carry our own wording or logo?
Yes. Most of the range is ready-made, but a sign with your firm's name, a message we do not stock or your own wording is easy to price. Send the text and measurements through the Get a quote page.
How do signs and banners attach to site fencing?
For Correx, cable ties through pre-drilled holes. For Dibond, corner holes and screws into a post or wall. The site banners come with eyelets, ready to tie onto Heras panels or scaffold tubes, and on exposed fencing the mesh version lets gusts pass through.
Is the site sign price on the page what the firm will be charged?
For the goods, yes: what the product page shows is what you pay at checkout, with delivery the one extra line. Before anything is printed, a person looks over every uploaded file.
