What is a magazine & zine?

Magazine printing at FatPrint is saddle stitched: printed sheets are folded and stapled through the spine, the way most community magazines, club newsletters and zines are made. Runs start at 25, so a zine maker can print a first issue without a garage full of stock, and a parish or residents' magazine can scale up to 5,000.

Page counts

Choose 8 to 48 pages in steps of four: 8, 12, 16 and so on. Stapled magazines work in fours because each folded sheet makes four pages. Count the covers as pages.

Paper and covers

Inside pages are 130gsm silk, 130gsm gloss or 170gsm silk.

Self cover. The cover is the same paper as the inside. Light and good value for zines and newsletters.
250gsm silk cover. A firmer cover for a magazine that gets passed around.
350gsm silk card cover. The stiffest option, for a portfolio or brochure-style magazine.
Cover lamination. None, matt or gloss on the outside of the cover.

What is the minimum order for magazine printing?

25 copies. You can also order 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000.

How many pages can my magazine have?

Between 8 and 48 pages, in steps of four. The cover counts as pages, so a 16-page magazine is the cover plus 12 inside pages.

Why does the page count have to be a multiple of four?

Saddle-stitched magazines are made from sheets folded in half and stapled, and each folded sheet gives four pages.

What is a self cover?

A self cover uses the same paper as the inside pages. It is the lightest and simplest option, popular for zines and newsletters.

How do I keep magazine printing cheap?

Fewer pages, a self cover and 130gsm paper all lower the cost. Prices for every option are live on the page.

Can you print zines?

Yes. A6, A5 or 148 mm square with a self cover is a common zine setup, and runs start at 25. Upload your print-ready artwork when you order.

How long does magazine printing take?
