Overview

This warning sign points drivers and visitors to the right way in or out. Typical homes for it are depots, hospitals, business parks and car parks. Our caution construction entrance sign printing is made to order in the size and board you choose.

Caution construction entrance sign printing: choosing the board

Our caution construction entrance sign printing comes on three kinds of board:

  • 3.5mm Correx, the fluted plastic board: light, waterproof and cheap to replace, which is why it is the site-sign favourite
  • 3mm Foamex, a rigid PVC foam board that screws or sticks up easily and is happiest indoors or out for a season
  • 3mm Dibond, aluminium skins on a solid core, the one to pick for a sign that stays outside for years

Correx for temporary jobs, Foamex for indoors, Dibond for anything staying outside for years.

What the sign says

It reads "Caution Construction Entrance". Yellow triangle, black border: the shape everyone reads as "watch out". The CAUTION heading tells people to watch out; the line beneath says for what.

Where to fix it

At entrances and junctions, big enough to read from a moving car. Repeat the key signs along the hoarding so they can be seen from every approach, not just the main gate.

The right size for caution construction entrance sign printing depends on the reading distance. Reading distance is worked out from the sign’s short side: about a metre for every 25 mm, the distance factor from ISO 3864-1. That makes A3 to about 12 m, A2 to about 17 m and A1 to about 24 m. Long corridors, yards and car parks need the bigger sizes.

Site signs get knocked, splashed and blown about, so Correx or Dibond usually makes more sense on a live job than Foamex.

On a construction job the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 make the principal contractor responsible for keeping unauthorised people out, and boundary signs are part of how that is done.

Got artwork? Upload it. No artwork? Use the online designer, or our paid artwork service (1 design, 2 rounds of changes). Either way a person looks over the file first, free. Every caution construction entrance sign printing order is made to order and dispatched from the UK. We charge £7.95 to send it anywhere on the UK mainland, and nothing once your goods come to £100 or more after discounts. The Highlands add £10, and addresses in Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, Scilly or the Isle of Wight get a quote. Full details are on the delivery page.

Also worth a look: construction site signs and everything in site, traffic & hoarding signs. The guide to safety sign colours covers the choice in more depth.

Which size do I need?

A safety sign must be large enough to read from where people will see it. Our conservative guide, based on the distance-factor method in ISO 3864-1, is about 1 metre of viewing distance for every 25 mm of sign height (the shorter side). Use it with your own risk assessment.

SizeReadable from up to about
A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm)12 m
A2 landscape (594 × 420 mm)17 m
A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm)24 m

Well lit or internally lit signs can be read from further away; dim areas need larger signs.

Questions

Quick answers about caution construction entrance sign printing.

Which size of Caution Construction Entrance sign can be read from across the room or yard?

Measure the distance first, then match it: 12 m calls for A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm), 17 m calls for A2 landscape (594 × 420 mm) and 24 m calls for A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm). Traffic, dim corners or glare all justify going one size bigger. The largest, A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), is the choice for wide open spaces.

Is there a standard pictogram that says "Caution Construction Entrance"?

ISO 7010 has nothing specific to this message, so the sign uses the general warning symbol, W001, alongside the text.

Where is the best place to put the "Caution Construction Entrance" sign?

Put it at junctions and entrances, big enough to read from a moving car. Walk the route yourself and make sure it is seen from the direction people come.

Am I legally required to display "Caution Construction Entrance"?

Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 the principal contractor has to stop unauthorised people getting onto the site. Signs at the boundary are part of how that is done. Your risk assessment is what decides the exact positions.

How soon will the Caution Construction Entrance sign reach me?

Standard takes 3 working days to make, or Express 2 working days. After that, allow 1 to 3 working days with the courier; you get tracking by email. Postage to the UK mainland is £7.95 per basket, not per item, and free when your goods total £100 or more.

Could the Caution Construction Entrance sign say something different, or carry our logo?

This one is printed exactly as shown, but a version with your own wording is possible. Tell us the text you want in place of "Caution Construction Entrance", plus any logo or site details. Write to us from the Contact page and a person replies, and we will quote it.

How do I put the Caution Construction Entrance sign up?

On smooth walls and doors, sign-fixing tape is quickest; otherwise drill the board and screw it to a wall or post. The vinyl version is self-adhesive: press it onto a clean, dry, smooth surface.

Dibond, Correx or Foamex: which is right?

For a temporary job, Correx is the lowest cost and still light and waterproof. For a sign that stays outdoors long term, Dibond aluminium composite is the one. Keep Foamex for sheltered places.

Asked by buyers

How cheaply can I get hold of the Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

Picked the way the page first loads, with A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) and 3.5mm Correx, the Caution Construction Entrance Sign comes to £27.52. Any other mix of options, a faster turnaround included, gets its own price the moment you choose it, and that figure is what you pay at checkout. Only delivery is left to add. On its own the opening price of £27.52 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero.

Which turnaround speeds can I choose for the Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

Allow 5 working days on Saver, 3 on Standard or 2 on Express before the Caution Construction Entrance Sign is handed to the courier, based on the options the page opens with. Weekends and bank holidays are not counted, and nothing starts until the order is paid and the artwork is confirmed. Pick another size or material and the days beside each speed update, sometimes by a day. After it leaves us, the courier normally delivers in one to three working days and you get the tracking link by email.

Which size of the Caution Construction Entrance Sign can people read from further away?

Rough reading distances for "Caution Construction Entrance": about 12 m for A3 landscape, 17 m for A2 landscape or 24 m for A1 landscape. The rule of thumb behind them: each 25 mm of height buys roughly one metre of distance. If the light is poor, or people pass quickly on foot or at the wheel, go for the next size up. The figures use the distance factor from ISO 3864-1, and your own risk assessment should settle the final choice. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all.

Which sizes can the Caution Construction Entrance Sign be printed in?

The table has 3 sizes. At the small end, A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) costs from £27.52; at the top, A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm) costs from £54.24. Each figure is for the cheapest set of options at that size. Unsure? Measure where it will go and check the view from the spot people will stand. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all. On its opening option, Caution Construction Entrance Sign leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Where is the best spot for a Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

Picture someone arriving at a building job, a house extension or a self-build plot who needs to see "Caution Construction Entrance". Fix it by the way in and right where the hazard begins, so nobody can reach the risk without walking past it. Give it decent light and a clear line of sight, with nothing parked, stacked or swinging open in front of it. Keep a short list of where each sign went: it slots into your risk assessment records and makes the odd walk-round check quick. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx.

What message is a Caution Construction Entrance Sign giving?

Start with the symbol on "Caution Construction Entrance". W001 is the ISO 7010 pictogram for general warning sign, so even someone without much English gets the gist at a glance. The design follows the warning sign pattern (a black-edged yellow triangle), used to flag up a hazard. That colour and shape code is laid down by the 1996 Safety Signs and Signals Regulations. Typical spots: a building job, a house extension or a self-build plot.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

No surprises: what the page shows for this sign is the goods figure you pay at checkout. Delivery is the one extra, £7.95 to a UK mainland address, and it drops away when the goods reach £100 after discounts. Paid artwork help shows up as its own basket line, so you can check each amount before paying. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all.

How much for the biggest size, A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm)?

From £54.24, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Material by material, it is 3.5mm Correx at £54.24, 3mm Foamex at £63.13 and 3mm Dibond aluminium composite at £88.40. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you.

I need several signs, some in different sizes. How do I buy them?

Each price on the page is for a single sign in the size and material chosen. Put the number you want in the box beside Add to basket and the total multiplies. For a different size or material, add it as a separate line; the basket keeps them apart. An artwork fee is charged once per line, whatever the quantity, and choosing to reuse the artwork from another item in your basket costs nothing more. Very large runs can go through Get a quote. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52. Material choices for Caution Construction Entrance Sign: 3.5mm Correx, 3mm Foamex or 3mm Dibond aluminium composite.

Can I mix different safety signs in a single order?

You can. Each sign gets a separate basket line, with whatever size and board suit it, and you pay once at the end. Delivery is charged per order, not per sign: £7.95 to the UK mainland, or free once the goods come to £100 or more. For "Caution Construction Entrance" the sizes are A3 landscape, A2 landscape and A1 landscape. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you.

How much does an A2 landscape (594 × 420 mm) sign cost?

From £36.41, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Material by material, it is 3.5mm Correx at £36.41, 3mm Foamex at £42.91 and 3mm Dibond aluminium composite at £61.17. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you. Material choices for Caution Construction Entrance Sign: 3.5mm Correx, 3mm Foamex or 3mm Dibond aluminium composite.

I am not a business. Can I buy just one sign?

Of course. Anyone can order, with no trade account and no minimum beyond one. Prices for the Caution Construction Entrance Sign begin at £27.52, checkout works without an account and you pay by card. Parents, clubs, churches and small shops order single items all the time. On its own the opening price of £27.52 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero.

Our event is close. Can the Caution Construction Entrance Sign be rushed?

Yes. Choose Express and the Caution Construction Entrance Sign can be on the way in 2 working days on the opening option, for £36.71, where Saver is £27.52 and takes 5 days. Then give the courier one to three working days, and send the artwork with the order, because the clock does not run until the file is sorted. If the date is really tight, message us on the Contact page before paying and we will tell you honestly.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on this sign?

Close-up items need about 300 dpi at full size. So an A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm) layout wants about 9,933 by 7,016 pixels. Keep lettering and logos as vectors if you can. An image copied off a web page or a social post rarely has enough pixels; if yours looks likely to print soft, our file check flags it. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all.

Someone else is putting our file together. How does it reach you?

Easiest route: they send the finished file to whoever placed the order, and it gets uploaded after ordering. Up to 3 files of 25 MB each are fine. They can also reach us through the Contact page, as long as they quote your order number so it lands on the right job. Production waits for the checked file, so a late file means a later dispatch date. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Yes, a real person on our team opens every uploaded file and checks the size, the bleed and the resolution. If something is off, you hear from us before anything is made. We print what you send, though, so read the spelling, numbers and dates yourself as well. Making starts when the order and the file are both confirmed. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx. Make the artwork for this sign the same size as the one you order, such as A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm).

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

That is why a person looks at every upload before anything is printed. Typical snags are a document at the wrong size, missing bleed, blurry photos and words sitting too near the trim. If we spot one, we explain what to change and you send a fresh file. Or hand it over to us: for £15 our typesetting places your wording and logo on a neat layout, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all. Make the artwork for this sign the same size as the one you order, such as A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm).

Can I send a Word or Canva file for the Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

Word, PowerPoint and Canva are a fair place to start, but export a high quality PDF from them before uploading. Our first choice is always a PDF at the ordered size with fonts embedded or outlined, followed by AI, EPS or SVG, then high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF. You can add three files, each up to 25 MB, on this page, or upload them after ordering from the email we send. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all.

Can the wording on a Caution Construction Entrance Sign be changed, or our logo added?

Yes. To reword "Caution Construction Entrance" or add a logo, pick the typesetting option (£15) for your text and logo on a clean layout, or the design-from-your-brief option (£35), then send us the details. Both paid options include one first draft and two rounds of changes. Uploading your own print-ready file costs nothing, and someone on our team looks it over before printing. Leave the safety symbol and its colours untouched, though: altering them makes the meaning less clear. Make the artwork for this sign the same size as the one you order, such as A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm).

What thickness is the Caution Construction Entrance Sign, and does it feel sturdy?

That depends on the board you tick: Correx at 3.5 mm, Foamex at 3 mm and Dibond at 3 mm. Dibond feels stiff because a plastic core is sandwiched between two thin aluminium sheets, yet it is still simple to screw or stick up. Foamex is foamed PVC, so it weighs very little in the hand. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52.

We are putting up a full set of signs at our premises. Which ones sit well next to this one?

A school corridor, a shop floor or a club house rarely needs just one notice. Two that often go up beside this one: Caution Wet Paint Sign and Caution Falling Debris Sign. Keep every sign in one board type so the set matches, look up sizes and prices on each page, then check out once: one delivery charge for the whole basket, free over £100 of goods. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52.

Will a Caution Construction Entrance Sign cope with rain and wind outdoors?

Rain is rarely the problem for "Caution Construction Entrance"; sunshine is. Every printed sign fades slowly in strong sun, so make a habit of checking outdoor ones and renew any that have faded too far. Dibond is the board to pick for a permanent outdoor home. Correx is waterproof and suits temporary outdoor use. Foamex copes with a covered spot but prefers life indoors. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx.

It gets dark early in winter. Can people still read the Caution Construction Entrance Sign in the evening?

Not in pitch darkness. Pick Correx, Foamex or Dibond and it is the same story: nothing on this page reflects headlights or glows by itself. Fix it where a street light, porch light or security lamp already shines, or fit a small light above it. Where a risk assessment asks for photoluminescent or reflective signs, those need to come from a specialist maker rather than from us. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you.

What is the easiest way to put up a Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

To mount "Caution Construction Entrance" on a wall, drill a hole near each corner of the board and screw it on with a washer under each head; stop once it feels snug, as Foamex in particular does not like being overtightened. Where drilling is not wanted, say on a painted door or a smooth wall inside, double-sided foam tape or sticky pads hold it well. The Correx version is simplest cable tied to a fence or fixed to a post. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx.

Does the material change the price of the Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

Taking the smallest size, A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm), as the example: 3mm Dibond aluminium composite at £47.58, 3mm Foamex at £32.83 and 3.5mm Correx at £27.52. Larger sizes follow a similar pattern, and the full grid sits in the size table further up the page. Think about where it is going first: a cheap material in the wrong spot can end up costing more. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52. On its opening option, Caution Construction Entrance Sign leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Do we legally have to display a Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

Your risk assessment answers that one for "Caution Construction Entrance". Where it shows a risk still remains after other steps, the 1996 Safety Signs and Signals Regulations say an employer must signpost it, and that applies to a cafe with two staff as much as a factory. Signs back up the other measures you take; they are never a substitute for them. The symbol on this sign follows ISO 7010, reference W001.

I have spotted a typo after paying. Can it be fixed?

Tell us quickly through the Contact page, quoting your order number. Before production starts we can take a corrected file, or cancel and refund the whole order. After that it cannot be changed. A print that matches your finished design or the file you sent is not a fault, so it pays to read every word and number before you order. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

There is no need to sign up. Pay as a guest with a bank card, handled securely by Stripe, and you still get an order confirmation email and a tracking email on dispatch. An account is optional; it just keeps your order history in one place. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all.

I am not sure which options to pick for this sign. Can someone advise me?

Yes. Type your question into the box on this page and a real person replies. Mention where the sign will be used, how long you need it to last and the date you need it by. Answered questions may be shown on the page for other buyers, so leave personal details out of it. Private questions can go through the Contact page, and anything the options here cannot price can go through the Get a quote page. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all.

Can I send this sign back if I no longer need it?

If it arrives faulty, damaged or not what you ordered, yes: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 we reprint or refund. A change of mind is different. Each order is made to your specification, and reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 takes those goods out of the 14-day right to cancel. Before production starts, though, you can cancel for all your money back. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you.

Do I pay delivery on each item in my basket?

No. One delivery charge covers the whole basket, so adding the Caution Construction Entrance Sign to other items does not add a second one. It is £7.95 to a UK mainland address and nothing once the goods total £100 after any discount code. Using the same design on two items? Pick the reuse-artwork option on the second one and you pay the artwork fee just once. Each line keeps its own size and quantity.

Our club needs a big batch of signs, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Yes. Fill in our Get a quote page, giving the size, how many, the material, when you need it and the delivery postcode, and attach your artwork if it is ready. A price comes back to you by email. Get a quote is also how delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands gets priced. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sign is made to order for you. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Take photos of the damage and the box it came in, then send them through the contact form within 48 hours of delivery, with your order number. Hold on to the item rather than posting it back; we reply and arrange a reprint or refund. This sits alongside your legal rights, which the returns page covers. Choose Saver and this sign leaves us after 5 working days; Express brings that down to 2. Before delivery, this sign costs from £27.52. On its opening option, Caution Construction Entrance Sign leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Some of our visitors have poor eyesight. Will this sign be easy for them to read?

Three things help most: strong contrast between the words and the background, a plain bold font, and a size that matches how far away people will be. Our standard safety sign layouts use the high-contrast colour pairings laid down for safety signs. Mount the sign at eye height, where it is well lit and not catching glare, and keep the message short. Make the artwork for this sign the same size as the one you order, such as A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm). For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx.

Bleed and dpi mean nothing to me. Can I still get printing done?

Yes. You do not need any print knowledge to order the Caution Construction Entrance Sign. Send us your words and logo with the typesetting option (£15) and we build the layout, then you get a first draft and two rounds of changes. Whatever you choose, a real person looks at the file before printing.

Should I send my file as RGB or CMYK?

CMYK if you can. An RGB file gets converted to CMYK for printing, and vivid greens, blues and oranges may lose a little brightness on the way. Have a Pantone number for your brand colour? Tell us and we match it as near as the material lets us. Expect a small shift between screen and print either way: a screen shines light at you, while a printed item reflects it. Make the artwork for this sign the same size as the one you order, such as A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm). For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx.

What if A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm) is still too small for the Caution Construction Entrance Sign?

We can still help. Put the size you need, the material and the quantity into the quote request form and we will send a price. For reference, the listed range ends at A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), and that size costs £54.24 or more. Bear in mind that anything past A0 goes by oversize courier, a one-off £15 on the order. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all. On its opening option, Caution Construction Entrance Sign leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Does a Caution Construction Entrance Sign come upright or wide?

"Caution Construction Entrance" is laid out in landscape format, available as A3 landscape, A2 landscape and A1 landscape. Wide layouts sit well on fences, over doorways and along corridors. Need it turned the other way? Choose one of the design options and we will rearrange it for you. Sizes for this sign go from A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm) at the small end to A1 landscape (841 × 594 mm), 3 in all.

The spot gets full sun all afternoon. Could this sign warp in the heat?

Foamex can, Dibond will not. A big, thin Foamex board warms up in direct sun and may bow, especially with fixings only at the corners. Dibond has aluminium faces and keeps its shape, so it is the sensible pick for a long-term outdoor sign. With Foamex, more fixings across a flat wall, or a thicker board, helps it stay straight. For this sign, the material can be 3mm Dibond aluminium composite, 3mm Foamex or 3.5mm Correx.

Could the Caution Construction Entrance Sign go on a door, say an office or classroom door?

Start with the position: eye level, on the push side or on the wall next to the frame, so the message is still visible with the door open. Fix it with double-sided foam tape or screws. A 3mm Foamex board on foam tape also sits well on a flat door. On a fire door, get the go-ahead from whoever looks after the building before any screws go in.
