Why bins need labels

People make a bin decision in about a second, usually with a coffee cup in one hand and a phone in the other. If the bin doesn't tell them, they guess, and one wrong guess can spoil a whole bag of clean recycling. Clear recycling sign printing takes the guessing out: a picture, one or two words, and a colour people can spot from the door.

Recycling sign printing, stream by stream

Office, staffroom and shop

Paper Recycling, Cardboard Recycling, Mixed Paper and Card Recycling, Paper and Card Only Waste, Aluminium Cans Recycling, Mixed Glass Recycling and Aerosols Recycling. Between them they cover the kitchen bins, the print room and the pile of boxes behind the stockroom door.

Garage, yard and maintenance store

Batteries Recycling, Electrical Recycling, Automotive Waste Recycling, Scrap Metal Recycling, and Wood and Timber Recycling. These are the streams that should never end up in the general skip, so they deserve a proper sign.

Everything else

Household and Garden Waste, Non-Recyclable Waste, Do Not Litter, and Do Not Litter Use the Bins Provided. Label the general bin too. When it's obvious where rubbish goes, the recycling bins stay cleaner.

One design is built for a bin in the middle of a room: the Mixed Recycling (Double Sided) Sign, readable whichever way people walk up to it.

Sticker, board or metal?

  • Self-adhesive vinyl: goes straight onto a wheelie bin, a recycling caddy or a cupboard door.
  • 3mm Foamex: a light rigid board for the wall above an indoor bin station.
  • 3mm Dibond aluminium composite: stays flat outside, won't rot or rust, and suits bin stores, compounds and yard walls.

All recycling sign printing on this page is full colour.

Sizes for bins and walls

Recycling sign printing comes in three sizes for every design: A4 (210 × 297 mm), A3 (297 × 420 mm) and A2 (420 × 594 mm), all portrait. Live prices are in the size table near the top of the page. A4 fits the front or lid of a bin. A3 suits a bin cupboard door or a wall just above a row of bins. A2 is for a bin store wall people see as they cross a car park or yard.

Getting recycling sign printing right first time

  • Check with your waste collector. If they take paper and card together, use Mixed Paper and Card rather than two separate signs.
  • One sign per bin. Every stream, general waste included.
  • Put the sign where the hand goes. On the lid or right above the slot, not on a wall two metres away.
  • Keep the words few. If your collector uses its own stream names or colours, send us the wording and we'll quote a custom sign, one or two words per stream.

The listed designs are ready to print. For custom work, upload a print-ready file, use the free online designer, or book our paid artwork service; a real person checks every uploaded file for free. See the artwork guidelines, and the Foamex, Dibond or Correx guide if you're torn between boards.

Timing and delivery

Each product page shows its own production days. All recycling sign printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. The delivery page has the rest.

Signs that go with it

A garage with a battery bin usually needs chemical and hazard signs too. Schools and parks pair recycling sign printing with school, park and community signs, and stockrooms with warehouse signs. For a whole-building rollout, get a quote.

Recycling and Waste Signs: questions answered

Does our office have to sort recycling by law?

In England, the Simpler Recycling rules brought in during 2025 require most workplaces to keep recyclable waste apart from general rubbish. Clear signs on the bins help staff and visitors put things in the right one. Ask your waste collector which streams they take.

Can I stick recycling signs straight onto wheelie bins?

Yes, with self-adhesive vinyl, which sticks directly to bins, lids and cabinets. For the wall above a row of bins, pick Foamex indoors or Dibond outdoors.

How big should a recycling sign be?

A4, readable from about 8 m, is right for the front of a bin. For a bin store wall seen from across a yard or car park, A3 (about 12 m) or A2 (about 17 m) is better.

Do you have signs for trade waste like batteries and scrap metal?

Yes. Alongside the everyday office streams such as paper, card, cans and glass, the range covers batteries, electrical items, automotive waste, scrap metal, and wood and timber.
