Electrical Safety Signs (electrical safety sign printing)

Why the sign is there

The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 say that where a serious risk is still present after you have done all you reasonably can to control it, you put up a sign. Live electrical kit is the textbook case for electrical safety sign printing. Your risk assessment decides which signs go where; the sign is the final reminder, not the control itself.

The shape and colour code

Electrical safety sign printing uses the yellow triangle with a black lightning bolt, the ISO 7010 W012 symbol, so anyone recognises the danger in a split second, even without reading English. Yellow means warning; it tells you something nearby can hurt you. Caution wording is for lower risk; Danger wording is for higher voltage, a risk of death, and places people must not enter. The safety sign colours guide explains the whole system.

Electrical safety sign printing, matched to the kit

Say what voltage is behind the door

A domestic-style 240 volt board and a 415 volt three-phase supply both come in Caution and Danger versions. There are Danger signs for 400 and 440 volts too, and for the big stuff, 6,600 volts and 11,000 volts for substations and HV rooms. Match the figure to what is actually there; it is the first thing a contractor reads.

Warn about shock in general

Sometimes the number matters less than the message "don't touch". Danger of Death (with or without Keep Out), Electric Shock Risk and a plain High Voltage sign cover panels, cabinets and doors.

Keep people out

Three signs in our electrical safety sign printing range deal with high voltage access: a keep out sign, a keep out no entry sign in the Caution style, and a no admittance door strip. They belong on gates, fences and plant room doors.

Mark the cables

Electrical safety sign printing reaches outdoors too. Caution Overhead Cables warns drivers, tipper lorries and plant operators before they reach a line. Danger Buried Cables marks ground where a spade or digger could hit something live. Both usually live outdoors, so choose Dibond.

Sizes and materials

Electrical safety sign printing here is full colour on one side. 3mm Foamex suits indoor switchroom doors and walls. 3mm Dibond aluminium composite stays flat outdoors on substation fences and compounds. Self-adhesive vinyl goes straight onto distribution boards, panel doors and cabinets. Most designs share four portrait sizes, priced live in the size table near the top of the page.

Rough reading distances: 8 m for A4, which suits a cabinet; 12 m for A3; 17 m for A2; 24 m for A1, the size for a substation fence seen from a footpath. The no admittance strip comes in 200 × 50 mm, 250 × 75 mm or 297 × 100 mm instead.

Custom voltages, timings and delivery

Need a voltage we don't list, or a sign naming your own equipment? Send the exact wording through get a quote. Double-check the numbers: we print what you design or supply. Custom files follow the artwork guidelines, and a real person checks every uploaded file for free.

For electrical safety sign printing, signs are ready to dispatch 5 working days after your order and artwork are confirmed. They are made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10; Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. More on the delivery page. Electrical Safety Signs: questions answered

What does the lightning bolt symbol on these signs mean?

It is symbol W012 from ISO 7010: a black bolt inside a yellow triangle, warning of the risk of electric shock. Every product page shows the code, so you can match each sign to the hazards in your risk assessment.

When is a Danger of Death sign the right one?

Use it where touching the equipment or entering the area could kill, for example substations or high voltage plant. Where it goes is for your risk assessment to decide. For doors and fences there is also a Keep Out version.

Which voltages are available on your signs?

There are two caution designs, for 240 and 415 volts. The danger designs go from 240 volts right up to 11,000, with 400, 415, 440 and 6,600 in between. If your kit needs a figure not on that list, tell us the wording you want and we will price a custom sign.

Can I stick a sign straight onto a distribution board door?

Yes, with self-adhesive vinyl, which grips smooth metal and painted doors on panels. For signs on a wall, go for Foamex inside the building or Dibond outside, fixed with screws or pads.
