Prohibition Sign Printing

Prohibition sign printing for the rules you need people to follow without a member of staff standing there saying it: no smoking, no entry, no admittance, no photography, no cycling and more. There are 14 ready-made designs, each with the red circle and diagonal bar people recognise at a glance. Most come in A4 to A1 on 3mm Foamex for indoor walls, 3mm Dibond for gates and outside walls, or self-adhesive vinyl for glass doors.

Prohibition Signs (prohibition sign printing)

What a red circle says

Nobody reads a prohibition sign word by word. They see the red ring and the slash and their brain says "don't". That split second is the reason the format exists, and it's set out in the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996: a black symbol on white, inside a red circle with a diagonal bar. Our prohibition sign printing follows that layout on every design, so the rule lands before anyone has finished reading.

Pick the sign by the problem

  • Smokers and vapers crowding the doorway: the No Smoking Including E-Cigarettes Sign bans both. Its sister design, No Smoking Electronic Cigarettes Allowed, is for places that allow vaping but not cigarettes.
  • Visitors drifting into the wrong corridor or yard: No Entry, plus No Exit for doors that aren't a way out, and two pedestrian signs for routes that are vehicles only.
  • The door marked private: the No Admittance Sign, made as a slim strip for doors.
  • Things people do that you'd rather they didn't: phones out filming, bikes on the path, spitting, and speakers turned up to eleven each have their own design.
  • A whole area with one rule: three zone signs covering alcohol, drugs, or both together.

That's 14 designs in all, covering the landlord's stairwell, the youth club car park, the gym changing room and the warehouse side door.

Board or sticker?

Prohibition sign printing comes on three materials, all printed full colour on one side.

  • 3mm Foamex: a light foam board with a smooth face. Screw or tape it to an office door, a corridor or a gym wall.
  • 3mm Dibond aluminium composite: two thin metal skins round a core, so it shrugs off rain. Use it on a yard gate or an outside wall.
  • Self-adhesive vinyl: peel and press onto the glass of a shop door or a painted panel. No fixings, no drilling.

Prohibition sign printing sizes

Thirteen designs come in A4 (210 × 297 mm), A3 (297 × 420 mm), A2 (420 × 594 mm) and A1 (594 × 841 mm). The No Admittance sign is the odd one out, made in slim landscape strips of 200 × 50 mm, 250 × 75 mm and 297 × 100 mm to sit neatly on a door at eye level. The size table near the top of the page has live prices.

Simple rule for prohibition sign printing: the further away the reader, the bigger the board. Someone stubbing out a cigarette by the door is a metre or two away, so A4 or A3 does it. A delivery driver deciding whether to swing into your yard is still out on the road, so give them A2 or A1 and a chance to change their mind.

Getting the wording right

These are finished designs, so read the words against your own policy before you order. The two no smoking versions say different things about e-cigarettes, and picking the wrong one leaves staff arguing with visitors. If your rule isn't on the list, such as a site-specific instruction, ask for a custom prohibition sign printing quote with your own wording. Send vector artwork or a 300 dpi file with 3 mm bleed, following the artwork guidelines. A real person checks every uploaded file for free.

Timing and delivery

Each product page shows its own production days. All prohibition sign printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK.

UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. The delivery page has the details.

Other signs that sit alongside

A red circle says "don't". A blue circle says "must", so pair prohibition sign printing with mandatory signs where you need both, and use warning signs for hazards. Car parks and back gates often want CCTV and security signs too. The guide to safety sign colours and shapes explains the whole system, and for a bulk order, get a quote.

Prohibition Signs: questions answered

How do I spot a prohibition sign?

Red ring, red slash, black picture on white. Whatever is drawn inside is the thing you are told not to do. UK rules from 1996 fix that look, so a visitor recognises the meaning straight away, even without reading any words.

Should our no smoking sign mention vapes?

Your own policy decides. We print one version that bans vaping along with cigarettes, and another that bans smoking but says vaping is fine. Each uses symbol P002. Choose whichever matches the rule you actually want people to follow.

No Entry or No Admittance: which do I need?

Their purpose is the same: keeping out anyone with no business there, shown by the P004 symbol. The difference is shape. No Admittance is a slim door strip, the smallest being 200 by 50 mm. No Entry is an A size sign, A4 to A1, for gates, walls and wide openings.

Can a prohibition sign be fixed outdoors?

Yes, on 3mm Dibond. It keeps flat and handles the weather, so it is right for gates, fences and outside walls. Foamex and vinyl are better kept for indoor doors and walls.
