School, Park and Community Signs (school and community sign printing)

The questions every gate gets asked

Can the dog come in? Can the kids have a kickabout? Is it all right to film sports day? School receptionists and parish clerks hear the same questions all year. A sign at the entrance answers them before anyone asks, and gives staff something to point at instead of having the same conversation twice a day. That's what school and community sign printing is really for.

School and community sign printing, spot by spot

The school gate

Rules about hanging around outside, filming and photos, alcohol and drugs on school grounds, and a bullying message that works just as well in a corridor or youth club as on a gate.

The green and the play area

Dog signs come in both directions. On the strict side there's No Dog Fouling, a clean-it-up reminder, Keep Dogs on Leads, a no-pets sign and one keeping dogs out of the children's play area. On the welcoming side, a dogs-allowed sign and one for assistance dogs.

Frames, fences and walls

A No Ball Games Allowed Sign, a warning about climbing on fences, a general climbing awareness sign, and instructions for the monkey bars.

Courts, tracks and pitches

Basketball Court Rules and a basketball-only sign, a no-spikes rule for the running track, a no-pets rule for athletics areas, a closed-after-dark sign and Field Under Repair. Clubs with a range get a set of archery signs, including arrow versions and a caution zone.

Three boards for school and community sign printing

  • 3.5mm Correx: fluted plastic, light and waterproof. Ideal for a notice that's up for a few weeks, like keeping everyone off the reseeded pitch.
  • 5mm Foamex: a stiff, smooth board for sports hall doors, covered walls and indoor corridors.
  • 3mm Dibond aluminium composite: won't warp, rot or rust. The one for a permanent dog sign on a park railing or rules on a court gate.

Every design is printed full colour. The Foamex, Dibond or Correx guide weighs up the three side by side.

Choosing a size

School and community sign printing comes in A3 (297 × 420 mm), A2 (420 × 594 mm) and A1 (594 × 841 mm), with live prices in the size table near the top of the page. A3 is plenty where people walk right past, like a court gate. A2 suits a fence along a footpath. A1 is for a playing field edge or park entrance spotted from further down the path.

Adding your own name or crest

The listed designs are ready to print, and school and community sign printing can be personalised too. If you'd like the school name, a crest, opening hours or a rule we haven't got, send us the wording and a vector logo for a quote. You can also upload a print-ready file, use the free online designer, or book our paid artwork service; a real person checks every uploaded file for free. The artwork guidelines cover bleed and safe margins for boards.

Timing and delivery

Each product page shows its own production days. All school and community sign printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. See the delivery page.

School, Park and Community Signs: questions answered

Our primary school wants a sign on the front gate. What will last?

For a sign that stays up for years on a gate or fence, pick the 3mm Dibond board: its aluminium faces keep it flat and it will not rot or corrode. Temporary notices, like a summer fair arrow, do well on light, waterproof 3.5mm Correx. Foamex at 5mm is best kept for sheltered walls or indoors.

How large does a sign for the playground need to be?

The range comes in A3, A2 and A1. An A3 sign can be read from roughly 12 m away, so it works on a playground gate. Where people need to read it from further off, like the edge of a playing field or the way into a park, the A1 size carries to about 24 m.

Our parish council needs dog signs for the rec. What is there?

Plenty. You can ask owners to clean up after their dogs, keep them on a lead, or keep them out of children's play areas altogether. There are also signs saying pets are not allowed, that dogs are welcome, or that only assistance dogs may enter. Every one comes in A3, A2 or A1.

Could the sign carry our school's name and badge?

Yes. Send the wording and your logo, ideally as a vector file, and we will price a custom sign. A person checks every file before printing, but spellings, names and colours are down to you, so read everything carefully before you order.
