Overview

This invitation printing is for flat cards, not folded ones. That keeps them simple: date, time, place and RSVP on the front, with a map, dress code or menu on the back if you print both sides.

Match the card to the event

  • 300gsm pearl. A soft shimmer. The obvious pick for weddings, engagements and anything black tie.
  • 300gsm brown kraft and 350gsm recycled uncoated. Natural and relaxed, great for a barn party or a garden do, and easy to write names on by hand.
  • 250gsm gloss. Bright colours for a kids' party or a club disco.
  • 250gsm silk, 350gsm silk and 300gsm smooth white. Clean, grown-up choices for launches, dinners and awards nights. 350gsm silk ties with the recycled card as the heaviest here.

Invitation printing sizes and finishes

A6 (105 × 148 mm) is the classic invite and slips into most envelopes. A5 (148 × 210 mm) gives space for a full schedule of the day. The 148 × 148 mm square feels a little different when it lands on the mat.

Lamination is optional: matt or gloss, applied to both sides. Matt feels soft and calm; gloss adds a shine. Leave it off if guests will write on the card. Tick the envelope option and plain white envelopes come with your cards.

Numbers and timing

Order from 25 to 2,000. A small family party might need 25; a school ball or a big wedding with day and evening guests might need a few hundred. Count households, not people, and add a few spares for the ones you forgot.

Upload a print-ready PDF with 3 mm bleed, design it in the free online designer, or pass it to our paid artwork service, which includes 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A person checks every uploaded file for free. The artwork guidelines explain bleed and safe margins.

Delivery

Every job of invitation printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK: Express from 2 working days, Standard from 4 and Saver from 6, once your order and artwork are confirmed. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery. Folded cards and postcards are in postcards and greeting cards.

Questions

Quick answers about invitation printing.

Our party is in a fortnight. Will invitations arrive in time?

Most likely. Express leaves us from 2 working days after the file check, Standard from 4 and Saver from 6, with courier delivery after that. Sending to mainland UK costs £7.95, or nothing from £100 of goods; the Scottish Highlands add £10, and we quote for islands and Northern Ireland.

What file should I send for invitations?

A PDF ready to print, set up at the finished size with an extra 3 mm of bleed around every edge, keeping words at least 3 mm in from the cut. Stuck? Typesetting, design from your brief and logo redraw can all be added for a fee.

Does a person look at my invitation artwork?

Yes. Before your invitation goes to print, someone checks resolution, size and bleed. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Do the invitations fold, or are they single cards?

They are single flat cards. Print just the front, or use the reverse too for the time and venue, directions, or how guests should reply.

Can I get envelopes with my invitations?

If you want them, yes. There is an envelope option on the page: leave it on none, or switch to white envelopes and they arrive with your cards, ready for posting or handing out.

We are getting married. Which card works best for invitations?

The 300gsm pearl card has a gentle shimmer that is lovely for weddings, and the heavier 350gsm silk feels smooth and substantial. Planning a barn or rustic do? The brown kraft or the recycled uncoated card will match that style.

Is matt or gloss lamination better on invitations?

Matt, on both sides, feels smooth and soft with very little shine. Gloss, also on both sides, adds sparkle and brighter colour. If anyone needs to write on the card, leave lamination off.

Asked by buyers

How much will Invitations set me back?

£25.85 is where Invitations start, set up as A6 · 105 × 148 mm, 250gsm gloss and front only on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

If I buy Invitations today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for Invitations are Express 2 working days, Standard 4 and Saver 6, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £25.85 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. Material choices for Invitations: 350gsm silk card, 250gsm gloss or 250gsm silk.

Could I lay out these cards myself on your website?

Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Which is the smallest and which the biggest card I can order here?

Smallest: A6 (105 × 148 mm), from £25.85. Biggest: A5 (148 × 210 mm), from £26.22. Both figures are for the cheapest options. Not sure which? Mark the space out with tape or string first and stand back to look.

How do I pick the right envelopes for Invitations?

The envelopes option has 2 settings: white envelopes included or no envelopes. Tick this to get envelopes that match, packed with the order. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. Before delivery, these cards cost from £25.85.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Is there a minimum quantity for these cards?

The smallest order is 25 and the largest listed is 2000; the list starts 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 and carries on from there. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

And the largest card, A5 (148 × 210 mm): how much is that one?

From £26.22 for 25, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Before delivery, these cards cost from £25.85.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Invitations cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these cards leave us after 6 working days; Express brings that down to 2.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these cards?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 2 working days to get Invitations out, against 6 on Saver, and costs £29.93 on the opening option rather than £25.85. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these cards?

Roughly 1,748 pixels across and 2,480 down for an A5 (148 × 210 mm) design, which is 300 dpi. Things read at arm's length need that 300 dpi at full size to stay crisp. Text and logos are safest as vector art, which never goes fuzzy. Pictures saved from a website or social media are nearly always too small, and our file check will point out any that could print blurred. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?

Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Once I finish designing these cards online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Which card would you suggest for Invitations?

Card thickness is shown as gsm, the weight in grams of one square metre, and more gsm means a sturdier card. Coated silk card gives crisp print; recycled, textured or uncoated cards have a softer, more natural feel and are nicer to write on. For Invitations the list runs 300gsm brown kraft, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm pearl, 300gsm smooth white card, 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Lamination on Invitations: how do the choices differ?

A laminate is a very thin clear layer sealed over the print. Gloss gives richer, punchier colour; matt takes the shine away so photos and text are easier to read under lights; soft touch feels smooth, almost like velvet. Whichever you pick, the surface copes better with scuffs. For Invitations the list runs gloss, both sides; matt, both sides; or none. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Does the printed option I choose make a difference to Invitations?

It sets which sides of the item get printed. For Invitations the list runs both sides or front only. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear. Still torn between two? Type the question into the box on this page and a person will reply.

How would I decide between Greeting Cards and Invitations?

Comparing Invitations with Greeting Cards, this is what changes. Material: 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card on this page, against 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card on the other. Sizes: 2 on this page, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm), and 5 on the other, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm). Opening price: £25.85 on this page and £30.17 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Where do Invitations and Postcards differ?

Comparing Invitations with Postcards, this is what changes. Material: 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card on this page, against 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card on the other. Sizes: 2 on this page, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm), and 4 on the other, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm). Opening price: £25.85 on this page and £21.15 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Should I get Invitations, or would Presentation Folders suit me better?

Comparing Invitations with Presentation Folders, this is what changes. Material: 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card on this page, against 400gsm silk card or 350gsm silk card on the other. Opening price: £25.85 on this page and £115.49 on the other. On the Standard service it is 4 working days on this page and 7 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Which cards do you take, and is paying online safe?

You pay by debit or credit card when you check out, and you can do it as a guest without making an account. Card details are handled by Stripe, a specialist payment company, so the full card number never reaches us or sits on our system. Printing starts after payment goes through and your file has been checked. If your group needs a price agreed before anyone pays, ask for a quote instead. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Can I swap my file once I have paid?

It depends on timing. Until production begins, a new file can replace the old one, or the order can be cancelled with a full refund; once it has begun, nothing can be changed. Message us straight away on the Contact page with your order number. Items printed exactly as supplied or designed do not count as faulty, so check names, numbers and dates first. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Can a volunteer order without setting up an account?

Yes. There is a guest checkout, so a one-off order does not need a login. Payment is by debit or credit card, processed by Stripe. The confirmation email that follows lists everything bought and what was paid, which helps when you claim the money back from the group. What the page shows is what the group pays, plus any delivery. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Every order gets a confirmation email listing what was bought, the options chosen and the amount paid, and a club, school or small firm can file that as its record of payment. What you pay for these cards is the price shown on the page plus any delivery charge, nothing more. If your accounts need a particular kind of invoice, ask through the Contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can provide. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £25.85.

Who looks after me once I have bought Invitations?

You deal with FatPrint the whole way through. Once you order, somebody checks the artwork, Invitations are printed specially for your order, and a courier delivers them with a tracking link by email. Need to ask something along the way? Use the question box here or the Contact page and a real person answers.

Can I send these cards back if I no longer need them?

Not for a change of mind. These cards are made for your order, and goods made to your specification fall outside the 14-day cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). You can still cancel and get all your money back before production begins. Anything faulty, damaged or wrong is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we reprint it or refund you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £25.85.

We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?

One checkout covers the lot. Add a basket line for every design, attach the right file to each, then pay once. You pay a single delivery charge of £7.95 for the whole order, or nothing if the goods add up to £100 or more. Repeating one design on another line? Choose the artwork choice that points to a file already in the basket, and no second design fee is charged. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Our club needs a big batch of cards, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

I have never ordered printing before. Do I need to know the technical words?

No. A person on our team checks every file for size, bleed and resolution and tells you in plain words if anything needs changing. The free online designer also warns you about small text and blurry images before you finish. Or pick typesetting for £15 and we lay out your words and logo for you, with a first draft and two rounds of changes. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Can the back of these cards carry different information from the front?

It can. Choose double-sided printing and upload a two-page PDF, with the front as page one and the back as page two. The back is handy for a club's fixtures, a cafe menu, collection times or directions to a venue. In the online designer, switch between front and back as you work. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Will my logo colours come out the same as on screen?

Very close, but not always identical. A screen glows, print reflects light, so a small difference is normal. Sending CMYK artwork keeps it nearest; RGB is changed to CMYK before printing and the brightest greens, blues and oranges can look a touch flatter. For an exact brand colour, give us the Pantone reference and we get as close as the material allows. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these cards?

Yes. The online designer is free to use: start from a ready-made layout, swap in your wording and see exactly what will print. If you would rather hand it over, typesetting costs £15: send the words and a logo, and we set them out neatly, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Either way, get someone else to read the names, dates and numbers before it goes to print. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 (148 × 210 mm), 2 in all.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Can I design these cards first and show the committee before we pay?

Yes. The online designer is free to use, so you can build the design, look at it on screen and share it round before anyone commits. The preview carries a watermark on screen only; it never appears on the printed item. When everyone is happy, finish the design and order. What you see is what gets printed, so check names, dates and numbers together first. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Will a pen write cleanly on these cards?

Depends on the surface. Uncoated and textured cards are the friendliest for biros and fountain pens. Silk card takes a biro once the ink has dried; gloss and laminated finishes need a permanent pen and may still smear. Planning to write on the back, for example appointment times or a note? Leave that side without lamination. For these cards, the material can be 300gsm brown kraft, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm pearl, 300gsm smooth white card, 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card.

How should we keep these cards in good condition until we need them?

Flat, dry and dark is the rule. Leave them in their box, away from damp, direct sun and heaters. Damp paper curls and can jam a printer, while sunlight slowly fades the ink. Take a handful at a time and keep the rest boxed. For these cards, the material can be 300gsm brown kraft, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm pearl, 300gsm smooth white card, 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card.
