Overview

In greeting card printing, the size you choose is the size of the card once it is folded, not the flat sheet. That trips people up more than anything else, so measure a card you like and match it to the list below.

Five folded sizes

  • A6 portrait (105 × 148 mm). Small and friendly. Good for thank-you cards and big Christmas mail-outs.
  • DL portrait (99 × 210 mm). Tall and slim, a smart shape for a corporate card.
  • 148 × 148 mm square. Looks a bit special on a shelf or a mantelpiece.
  • A5 portrait (148 × 210 mm) or A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm). Room for a big photo, a team shot or a child's drawing.

Greeting card printing: card and finish

300gsm greetings card is the everyday choice. 350gsm silk is thicker with a smooth, low sheen. 350gsm recycled uncoated has a natural feel and takes a pen well inside, which matters when every card gets a handwritten message.

Gloss lamination on the outside adds shine and helps the front survive the post. The inside stays unlaminated, so writing on it is easy.

Envelopes to match

Every card ships with an envelope, in white or red. Sizes follow the card: 155 mm square, DL, C5 or C6. Red suits Christmas and Valentine's Day; white works all year. Picture a charity shop selling packs of its own festive cards, each with a red envelope ready at the counter.

Artwork, timing and delivery

Supply flat artwork with the panels in the right order and 3 mm bleed, build the card in the free online designer, or use our paid artwork service, which includes 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A person checks every uploaded file for free; the artwork guidelines show how folded panels are set out.

Order from 25 to 1,000 cards. They are made to order and dispatched from the UK: Express from 3 working days, Standard from 4 and Saver from 6, once your order and artwork are confirmed. For Christmas greeting card printing, leave a little slack for the post. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery. Flat cards are in postcards and greeting cards.

Questions

Quick answers about greeting card printing.

We are selling charity Christmas cards. How soon can greeting cards be sent?

Express dispatches from 3 working days after your file is checked, Standard from 4 and Saver from 6. Delivery to the UK mainland is £7.95, or free on goods of £100 or more; the Scottish Highlands add £10, and islands and Northern Ireland are quoted.

How do I lay out a folded card?

Send the artwork flat, with the front, inside and back panels in the correct order and 3 mm bleed, so everything lines up with the fold on your greeting card order.

Will you tell me if something is wrong with my file?

We will. Every upload for your greeting card order is checked by a person for resolution, size and bleed, and you hear from us before anything is printed. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Does the card size on the page mean flat or folded?

Folded. Take an A6 portrait card: it measures 105 × 148 mm when closed, with the fold running down the long side.

Will the greeting cards come with envelopes?

They will. You choose white or red, in 155 mm square, DL, C5 or C6. Pick the envelope to suit the folded card: an A6 card goes in a C6, and an A5 card in a C5.

If I laminate the cards, can people still write a message inside?

Yes. The gloss lamination only covers the outside of the card, so the inside stays uncoated and a normal pen or felt tip writes on it without smudging.

Which card should I choose for greeting cards?

300gsm greetings card is the usual pick. 350gsm silk is thicker, smooth and has a soft sheen. 350gsm recycled uncoated feels natural and is easy to write on.

Asked by buyers

How cheaply can I get hold of Greeting Cards?

Picked the way the page first loads, with A6 · 105 × 148 mm, 300gsm greetings card and none, Greeting Cards come to £30.17. Any other mix of options, a faster turnaround included, gets its own price the moment you choose it, and that figure is what you pay at checkout. Only delivery is left to add. On its own the opening price of £30.17 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero.

Which turnaround speeds can I choose for Greeting Cards?

Allow 6 working days on Saver, 4 on Standard or 3 on Express before Greeting Cards are handed to the courier, based on the options the page opens with. Weekends and bank holidays are not counted, and nothing starts until the order is paid and the artwork is confirmed. Pick another size or material and the days beside each speed update, sometimes by a day. After it leaves us, the courier normally delivers in one to three working days and you get the tracking link by email.

Is delivery extra on top of the price of Greeting Cards?

Send it to a UK mainland address for a flat £7.95, or for free when the goods in the basket add up to £100 or more after discounts; artwork and design charges do not count towards that. An order of just this at the opening price of £30.17 is under £100, so it pays the £7.95. We price delivery first for Northern Ireland and for the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands, Scilly, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Man; Highland addresses on the mainland just pay £10 extra, one time per order.

Which artwork services are offered with Greeting Cards?

Several routes, all chosen under Artwork on this page. Send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. The fee is the same whatever quantity you order and shows separately in the basket. There is also a free online designer if you want to build it yourself. On this page, Greeting Cards start from £30.17.

Is the online designer free, and how do I use it?

Pick a starting layout, swap in your own words, logo and pictures, and move things around until it looks right. While you work, the tool flags sample text you forgot to change, small text, items outside the safe area and blurry images, before you can finish. It is free to use and the on-screen watermark does not print. What you see is what we print. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm). Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

Which sizes can Greeting Cards be printed in?

The table has 5 sizes. At the small end, A6 (105 × 148 mm) costs from £30.17; at the top, A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm) costs from £31.83. Each figure is for the cheapest set of options at that size. Unsure? Measure where it will go and check the view from the spot people will stand.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

No surprises: what the page shows for these cards is the goods figure you pay at checkout. Delivery is the one extra, £7.95 to a UK mainland address, and it drops away when the goods reach £100 after discounts. Paid artwork help shows up as its own basket line, so you can check each amount before paying. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

Could you price a 148 × 148 mm card for me?

From £31.83 for 25, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

Does the envelopes option I choose make a difference to Greeting Cards?

Tick this to get envelopes that match, packed with the order. For Greeting Cards the list runs Red 155 mm square envelopes, Red C6 envelopes, white C6 envelopes, white C5 envelopes, Red C5 envelopes, Red DL envelopes, white DL envelopes or white 155 mm square envelopes. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

How many Greeting Cards can I buy at one time?

Anything from 25 to 1000. The quantity choices on the page run 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000. The figure shown is for the whole batch, not for one, so divide it by the number you picked to see the cost of each. If you need more than 1000, send the size, number and date through our Get a quote page. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

Is there a minimum quantity for Greeting Cards?

Yes. You can start at 25, with 50, 100, 250 and 500 as the next steps. Each price is the total for that quantity, so divide it to compare the cost of one item across a few options before deciding. For an amount outside the list, ask for a quote. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

And the largest card, A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm): how much is that one?

From £31.83 for 25, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

Our event is close. Can Greeting Cards be rushed?

Yes. Choose Express and Greeting Cards can be on the way in 3 working days on the opening option, for £34.94, where Saver is £30.17 and takes 6 days. Then give the courier one to three working days, and send the artwork with the order, because the clock does not run until the file is sorted. If the date is really tight, message us on the Contact page before paying and we will tell you honestly.

Do you send to Northern Ireland or the islands?

Yes, anywhere in the UK, though the price differs by area. A Highlands postcode on the mainland pays the usual rate plus a single £10 for the order, and that £10 still applies when the rest of the delivery is free. Northern Ireland gets a price worked out first, as do the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands, Scilly, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Man: send your postcode through our Get a quote page or the Contact page. We cannot send anything outside the UK. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

That is why a person looks at every upload before anything is printed. Typical snags are a document at the wrong size, missing bleed, blurry photos and words sitting too near the trim. If we spot one, we explain what to change and you send a fresh file. Or hand it over to us: for £15 our typesetting places your wording and logo on a neat layout, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these cards?

Close-up items need about 300 dpi at full size. So an A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm) layout wants about 2,480 by 1,748 pixels. Keep lettering and logos as vectors if you can. An image copied off a web page or a social post rarely has enough pixels; if yours looks likely to print soft, our file check flags it.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Yes, a real person on our team opens every uploaded file and checks the size, the bleed and the resolution. If something is off, you hear from us before anything is made. Designs made in the online designer are printed exactly as they looked on screen. We print what you send, though, so read the spelling, numbers and dates yourself as well. Making starts when the order and the file are both confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Can I send a Word or Canva file for Greeting Cards?

Word, PowerPoint and Canva are a fair place to start, but export a high quality PDF from them before uploading. Our first choice is always a PDF at the ordered size with fonts embedded or outlined, followed by AI, EPS or SVG, then high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF. You can add three files, each up to 25 MB, on this page, or upload them after ordering from the email we send. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

Someone else is putting our file together. How does it reach you?

Easiest route: they send the finished file to whoever placed the order, and it gets uploaded after ordering. Up to 3 files of 25 MB each are fine. They can also reach us through the Contact page, as long as they quote your order number so it lands on the right job. Production waits for the checked file, so a late file means a later dispatch date. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Once I finish designing these cards online, is the file mine to keep?

Two ways. Buy the file on its own: finish your design and pay £9.99 for the print-ready PDF, though you give up the right to cancel as soon as you start downloading it. Or order printing, and a full resolution PDF of the design travels with the order, waiting for you in your confirmation email and under My Account once you have paid. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm). Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

Which lamination would you suggest for Greeting Cards?

The lamination option has 2 settings: gloss, outside; or none. A laminate is a very thin clear layer sealed over the print. Gloss gives richer, punchier colour; matt takes the shine away so photos and text are easier to read under lights; soft touch feels smooth, almost like velvet. Whichever you pick, the surface copes better with scuffs. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. For these cards, the material can be 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card.

Can you explain the card setting for Greeting Cards?

The card option has 3 settings: 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card. Card thickness is shown as gsm, the weight in grams of one square metre, and more gsm means a sturdier card. Coated silk card gives crisp print; recycled, textured or uncoated cards have a softer, more natural feel and are nicer to write on. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds.

Should I get Greeting Cards, or would Invitations suit me better?

Comparing Greeting Cards with Invitations, this is what changes. Material: 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card on this page, against 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card on the other. Sizes: 5 on this page, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm), and 2 on the other, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm). Opening price: £30.17 on this page and £25.85 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Where do Greeting Cards and Presentation Folders differ?

Set Greeting Cards beside Presentation Folders and a few things differ. Material: 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card on this page, against 400gsm silk card or 350gsm silk card on the other. Opening price: £30.17 on this page and £115.49 on the other. On the Standard service it is 4 working days on this page and 7 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

How would I decide between Postcards and Greeting Cards?

Set Greeting Cards beside Postcards and a few things differ. Material: 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card on this page, against 250gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or 350gsm silk card on the other. Sizes: 5 on this page, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm), and 4 on the other, the smallest A6 (105 × 148 mm). Opening price: £30.17 on this page and £21.15 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

I have spotted a typo after paying. Can it be fixed?

Tell us quickly through the Contact page, quoting your order number. Before production starts we can take a corrected file, or cancel and refund the whole order. After that it cannot be changed. A print that matches your finished design or the file you sent is not a fault, so it pays to read every word and number before you order. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

Do I pay delivery on each item in my basket?

No. One delivery charge covers the whole basket, so adding Greeting Cards to other items does not add a second one. It is £7.95 to a UK mainland address and nothing once the goods total £100 after any discount code. Using the same design on two items? Pick the reuse-artwork option on the second one and you pay the artwork fee just once. Each line keeps its own size and quantity.

Next year we will want the same card again. Is reordering easy?

Very. Choose the same product with the same options and upload the same file, and it is made again exactly as before. Designed it online? The print PDF from your first paid order stays in My Account and in the confirmation email, so you can reuse it. Before you repeat it, read the wording again: dates, prices, opening times and contact details are the things that go out of date. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

There is no need to sign up. Pay as a guest with a bank card, handled securely by Stripe, and you still get an order confirmation email and a tracking email on dispatch. An account is optional; it just keeps your order history in one place, along with downloads of designs you made online. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Keep the order confirmation email we send: it itemises the purchase and the payment, and works as a plain receipt for your records. The total at checkout for these cards is the goods price on the page plus delivery, so the email matches what left the account. Need something more formal for an audit or a grant claim? Message us from the Contact page with your order number. Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

Can I send these cards back if I no longer need them?

If they arrive faulty, damaged or not what you ordered, yes: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 we reprint or refund. A change of mind is different. Each order is made to your specification, and reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 takes those goods out of the 14-day right to cancel. Before production starts, though, you can cancel for all your money back. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?

No. Each design goes into the basket as a separate line with its own file or online design, and you pay for them all in one checkout. Delivery is counted once for the whole order and costs nothing when the goods reach £100. If two lines share the same artwork, pick the artwork option that reuses a file already in your basket, so any design fee is only paid once. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

I am ordering these cards for a school or charity. Do I need to open an account?

No account is needed. Guest checkout lets a parent, volunteer or club secretary order once and pay by debit or credit card through Stripe. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, and the confirmation email you receive lists the items and the amount paid for your records. If the committee needs a price agreed before anyone pays, the Get a quote page is the better starting point. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £30.17.

I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these cards?

You do not need to be a designer, and nobody expects a parent or a club helper to be one. You can use the online designer at no cost, which checks things like tiny text and blurry photos as you go. Or choose typesetting for £15 and send us your text and logo; you get a first draft and up to two rounds of changes. A second pair of eyes on the spelling always helps. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Should I send my file as RGB or CMYK?

CMYK if you can. An RGB file gets converted to CMYK for printing, and vivid greens, blues and oranges may lose a little brightness on the way. Have a Pantone number for your brand colour? Tell us and we match it as near as the material lets us. Expect a small shift between screen and print either way: a screen shines light at you, while printed items reflect it. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm).

Bleed and dpi mean nothing to me. Can I still get printing done?

Yes. You do not need any print knowledge to order Greeting Cards. Send us your words and logo with the typesetting option (£15) and we build the layout, then you get a first draft and two rounds of changes. If you would rather make it yourself, the online designer checks the technical side as you go. Whatever you choose, a real person looks at the file before printing.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Five things: placeholder wording still sitting in the layout, lettering smaller than will print clearly, anything creeping past the safe area or right up to the trim, logos or photos with too few pixels for the size, and shapes lying on top of words. A serious issue has to be sorted before you finish, while a plain warning can be accepted if you are happy with it. Your spelling is not read, so go over names, numbers and dates yourself. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm). Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

Can I design these cards first and show the committee before we pay?

You can. Designing online costs nothing until you order, so make a draft, show it to the group and tweak it as often as you like. The on-screen watermark is only there on the preview and is never printed. The designer flags things like small text or low-resolution photos as you go, but it cannot catch a wrong date, so have a second person read it. Make the artwork for these cards the same size as the one you order, such as A6 (105 × 148 mm). Sizes for these cards go from A6 (105 × 148 mm) at the small end to A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm), 5 in all.

Do colours print softer on uncoated, recycled or textured paper?

A little, yes. These papers soak up more ink than silk or gloss, so colours come out gentler and without a shine. Plenty of people pick them for exactly that natural, understated feel. If matching brand colours closely is the priority, silk or another coated stock gets nearer. For these cards, the material can be 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card.

Will a pen write cleanly on these cards?

For handwriting, uncoated or textured card is best: biro and fountain pen both sit well on it. On silk, a biro works if you let it dry. Gloss and laminated surfaces are slippery for ink, so use a permanent pen and expect some smudging. If the back is for writing on, keep lamination off that side. For these cards, the material can be 350gsm recycled uncoated, 350gsm silk card or 300gsm greetings card.
