Overview
Compliment slip printing at FatPrint, in short: you post back a signed contract, send a customer a replacement part, or pop a free sample in a parcel. A full letter is overkill. A scrap of paper looks careless. A compliment slip sits in between: your logo and details printed, with space for a quick handwritten line like "As promised, cheers, Dave".
Who gets through them
Online sellers packing orders at the kitchen table. Accountants returning paperwork. Plumbers leaving a slip with a guarantee. Schools sending forms home. Anyone who posts things more than now and then will use a pack faster than they expect.
Compliment slip printing: the paper question
- 90gsm. Standard office weight. Easy to write on and runs through office printers if you want to add typed text.
- 120gsm. A little thicker, a little smarter, and still happy in most printers.
- 170gsm. Heavy, almost card-like. Feels generous in a gift parcel, but check your printer takes it before relying on it.
All three are smooth white, which takes a biro nicely.
One side or both
Front only leaves the back blank. Printing both sides gives space for opening hours, a returns note, social handles or a discount code for the next order, which works well for online shops. Match it with your letterheads and continuation sheets from letterheads and compliment slips so everything looks like a set.
Quantities, artwork and delivery
Packs are 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 or 10,000. The more you order, the less each slip costs. Upload a print-ready PDF at 99 × 210 mm plus 3 mm bleed on every edge, or build one in the free online designer. The paid artwork service can set type, design from a brief or redraw your logo. A person checks every uploaded file for free; the artwork guidelines explain bleed.
Compliment slip printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK. Express is from 2 working days to dispatch, Standard from 4 and Saver from 6, once your order and artwork are confirmed. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery.

Questions
Quick answers about compliment slip printing.
Will compliment slips fit in the envelopes I already use?
If they are DL envelopes, yes. The slips are DL, 99 × 210 mm, a third of an A4 sheet, so they sit flat inside and match an A4 letterhead neatly.
I pop a compliment slip in every parcel. Which paper weight is best?
For parcels, 170gsm is the one to choose: it is stiff enough that the slip does not crumple on top of the goods. 90gsm is ordinary office weight and 120gsm feels a bit more solid. Every option takes a pen.
Could I run the slips through our office printer to add details?
With 90gsm, yes, whether your machine is laser or inkjet. The 170gsm paper is a lot heavier, so if you plan to add details yourself, look up the thickest paper your printer accepts before ordering.
What could I put on the back of a compliment slip?
Most slips are printed on the front only. If you choose both sides, the back could carry opening hours, social media links, a returns note or a quick list of what you offer.
How do I prepare my artwork for my compliment slip order?
Set it up as a print-ready PDF at DL (99 × 210 mm) with 3 mm bleed round every edge, and keep text 3 mm or more inside the trim. Designing online works too. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.
Will you tell me if something is wrong with my file?
We will. Every upload for your compliment slip order is checked by a person for resolution, size and bleed, and you hear from us before anything is printed. In the online designer, what you see is what we print. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.
How long until my compliment slip order ships?
On Standard it is made and handed to the courier within 4 working days; Express shortens that to 2 working days, Saver stretches it to 6 working days for less. Mainland UK delivery adds £7.95 to the basket, and nothing once the goods reach £100 after any discount code. Highlands mainland addresses add £10; Northern Ireland and the islands are quoted first.
Asked by buyers
How much will Compliment Slips set me back?
£22.41 is where Compliment Slips start, set up as 90gsm smooth white paper and front only on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).
If I buy Compliment Slips today, when will they leave you?
As the page first opens, the speeds for Compliment Slips are Express 2 working days, Standard 4 and Saver 6, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.
Is delivery ever free?
It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £22.41 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.
I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?
Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. On this page, Compliment Slips start from £22.41.
Could I lay out these sheets myself on your website?
Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
Once printed, can I run these sheets through our office printer to add each letter?
For most machines, yes. Smooth white paper between 90 and 120gsm goes through the usual office laser and inkjet printers; heavier weights may need feeding by hand through the manual tray. This page offers 90gsm, 120gsm and 170gsm paper. Run a single test sheet before a big batch, and keep the part where you type the letter free of design. You will also find these sheets in our Plumbers & Heating Engineers, Mechanics & Garages, Landlords & Letting Agents, Gas Engineers, Electricians, Builders & Construction and Air Con & Refrigeration sections.
Is there a minimum quantity for these sheets?
The smallest order is 100 and the largest listed is 10000; the list starts 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2500 and 5000 and carries on from there. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
I am never sure how many to print. How many sheets is sensible?
Print what you will get through before anything on it goes stale, such as a phone number, a price or an offer. You can order anything between 100 and 10,000. Try two or three amounts on this page and work out the cost per sheet. Testing a new design? A smaller first batch lets you see how it goes before a bigger run. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?
The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Compliment Slips cost more to send?
The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these sheets leave us after 6 working days; Express brings that down to 2.
Is there a quicker turnaround for these sheets?
Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 2 working days to get Compliment Slips out, against 6 on Saver, and costs £25.95 on the opening option rather than £22.41. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.
Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?
Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?
You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. If fixing it sounds like a chore, choose typesetting for £15: we lay out your text and logo, show you a first draft, then make up to two rounds of changes. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
Which file formats can I upload?
A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?
Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
Once I finish designing these sheets online, is the file mine to keep?
Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
How do I pick the right paper for Compliment Slips?
The gsm figure is the weight of the paper in grams for each square metre, so a bigger number means a thicker, firmer sheet. Silk and gloss have a coating that keeps print sharp and bright, while uncoated sheets take a pen more easily. For Compliment Slips the list runs 170gsm smooth white paper, 120gsm smooth white paper or 90gsm smooth white paper. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.
Can you explain the printed setting for Compliment Slips?
It sets which sides of the item get printed. For Compliment Slips the list runs both sides or front only. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.
Do builders and contractors buy Compliment Slips from you?
For sites, extensions and renovations, look under Builders & Construction in the shop: Compliment Slips are listed there. Prices begin at £22.41; the material choices are 170gsm smooth white paper, 120gsm smooth white paper or 90gsm smooth white paper; you can order from 100 up to 10000. People buying for that kind of work often add Caution Falling Debris Sign or Caution Site Entrance Site Banner. Put everything in one order and delivery is free at £100 or more.
Would Compliment Slips be useful for electricians?
For rewires, testing and inspections, look under Electricians in the shop: Compliment Slips are listed there. Prices begin at £22.41; the material choices are 170gsm smooth white paper, 120gsm smooth white paper or 90gsm smooth white paper; you can order from 100 up to 10000. People buying for that kind of work often add Danger 240 Volts Sign or Car Door Magnetic Signs. Put everything in one order and delivery is free at £100 or more.
I work with air conditioning and refrigeration engineers. Are these sheets something we could use?
Yes: Compliment Slips sit in our Air Con & Refrigeration section, next to other things air conditioning and refrigeration engineers buy for air con and fridge servicing. Prices begin at £22.41. The material choices are 170gsm smooth white paper, 120gsm smooth white paper or 90gsm smooth white paper. You can order from 100 up to 10000. Also in that section: Business Cards and Air Conditioning Service Labels. One basket can hold the lot, and delivery is free once the goods reach £100.
How would I decide between Letterheads and Compliment Slips?
Comparing Compliment Slips with Letterheads, this is what changes. Opening price: £22.41 on this page and £31.05 on the other. On the Standard service it is 4 working days on this page and 3 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.
Should I get Compliment Slips, or would Printed Envelopes suit me better?
Set Compliment Slips beside Printed Envelopes and a few things differ. Material: 170gsm smooth white paper, 120gsm smooth white paper or 90gsm smooth white paper on this page, against 90gsm white, self seal; or 100gsm white, self seal on the other. Opening price: £22.41 on this page and £111.54 on the other. On the Standard service it is 4 working days on this page and 6 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.
Can a volunteer order without setting up an account?
Yes. There is a guest checkout, so a one-off order does not need a login. Payment is by debit or credit card, processed by Stripe. The confirmation email that follows lists everything bought and what was paid, which helps when you claim the money back from the group. What the page shows is what the group pays, plus any delivery. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
Who looks after me once I have bought Compliment Slips?
You deal with FatPrint the whole way through. Once you order, somebody checks the artwork, Compliment Slips are printed specially for your order, and a courier delivers them with a tracking link by email. Need to ask something along the way? Use the question box here or the Contact page and a real person answers.
Can I swap my file once I have paid?
It depends on timing. Until production begins, a new file can replace the old one, or the order can be cancelled with a full refund; once it has begun, nothing can be changed. Message us straight away on the Contact page with your order number. Items printed exactly as supplied or designed do not count as faulty, so check names, numbers and dates first. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
I am not sure which options to pick for these sheets. Can someone advise me?
Of course. Tell us three things: where these sheets will go, whether it is for one day or for years, and your deadline. Send that through the question box on this page or the Contact page, and a member of the team will suggest options. If what you need is outside the options listed, the Get a quote page lets you describe it and get a price. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
Our club needs a big batch of sheets, or an odd size. Can you price it?
Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
Do I have to register before I can buy?
No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
Can I send these sheets back if I no longer need them?
Not for a change of mind. These sheets are made for your order, and goods made to your specification fall outside the 14-day cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). You can still cancel and get all your money back before production begins. Anything faulty, damaged or wrong is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we reprint it or refund you. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?
One checkout covers the lot. Add a basket line for every design, attach the right file to each, then pay once. You pay a single delivery charge of £7.95 for the whole order, or nothing if the goods add up to £100 or more. Repeating one design on another line? Choose the artwork choice that points to a file already in the basket, and no second design fee is charged. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
Next year we will want the same sheet again. Is reordering easy?
Yes. Treat it as a fresh order of the same item with the same settings, and attach the file you used last time. For online designs, the print-ready PDF from the original paid order is waiting in My Account and your confirmation email. Change any details that have moved on, such as a new email address or this year's date, before uploading. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?
Every order gets a confirmation email listing what was bought, the options chosen and the amount paid, and a club, school or small firm can file that as its record of payment. What you pay for these sheets is the price shown on the page plus any delivery charge, nothing more. If your accounts need a particular kind of invoice, ask through the Contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can provide. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
Can I buy Compliment Slips and other products in the same basket?
Yes. Different products, sizes and quantities can all sit in one basket, each as its own line with its own options. Delivery is charged once for the whole order, £7.95 to the UK mainland, and it is free when the goods reach £100 after discount codes. If two items share a design, choose the option to reuse artwork from another basket item and there is no second artwork fee. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each sheet is made to order for you.
The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?
Look everything over when it arrives. If something is damaged or missing, contact us within 48 hours through the contact form, with your order number and photos of both the item and the packaging. Please keep hold of it until we reply; we then sort out a reprint or a refund. Your legal rights stay the same, as the returns page sets out. Before delivery, these sheets cost from £22.41.
I have never ordered printing before. Do I need to know the technical words?
No. A person on our team checks every file for size, bleed and resolution and tells you in plain words if anything needs changing. The free online designer also warns you about small text and blurry images before you finish. Or pick typesetting for £15 and we lay out your words and logo for you, with a first draft and two rounds of changes. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
Will my logo colours come out the same as on screen?
Very close, but not always identical. A screen glows, print reflects light, so a small difference is normal. Sending CMYK artwork keeps it nearest; RGB is changed to CMYK before printing and the brightest greens, blues and oranges can look a touch flatter. For an exact brand colour, give us the Pantone reference and we get as close as the material allows. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these sheets?
Yes. The online designer is free to use: start from a ready-made layout, swap in your wording and see exactly what will print. If you would rather hand it over, typesetting costs £15: send the words and a logo, and we set them out neatly, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Either way, get someone else to read the names, dates and numbers before it goes to print. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
Can the back of these sheets carry different information from the front?
It can. Choose double-sided printing and upload a two-page PDF, with the front as page one and the back as page two. The back is handy for a club's fixtures, a cafe menu, collection times or directions to a venue. In the online designer, switch between front and back as you work. If you have no file, you can build the design for these sheets in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
How should we keep these sheets in good condition until we need them?
Flat, dry and dark is the rule. Leave them in their box, away from damp, direct sun and heaters. Damp paper curls and can jam a printer, while sunlight slowly fades the ink. Take a handful at a time and keep the rest boxed. For these sheets, the material can be 170gsm smooth white paper, 120gsm smooth white paper or 90gsm smooth white paper.
