Postcards & Greeting Cards (postcards and greeting card printing)

The three questions behind postcards and greeting card printing

Flat or folded?

A flat card says one thing quickly. A folded card has an inside, which is where the handwritten bit goes. That single choice points you to the right corner of our postcards and greeting card printing range.

Is it going in the post?

A postcard can travel without an envelope. A greeting card or an invitation usually wants one, and two of our three products can include them.

Will someone write on it?

If a pen is going anywhere near it, pick an uncoated, recycled or kraft card. Pen sits happily on those, while shiny finishes can smudge.

Postcards and greeting card printing, product by product

  • Postcards: flat cards for mailings, thank-you notes in a parcel, artists' prints and hotel welcome cards. Choose 350gsm silk, 250gsm gloss or silk, 300gsm smooth white, natural or textured uncoated, 350gsm recycled uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft, with gloss lamination on the front if you like.
  • Greeting Cards: folded cards for Christmas, anniversaries, sympathy and thanks. Choose 300gsm greetings card, 350gsm silk or 350gsm recycled uncoated, optional gloss lamination on the outside, and white or red envelopes.
  • Invitations: flat cards for weddings, christenings, launches and awards nights, on silk, gloss, smooth white, pearl, recycled uncoated or kraft card, with no envelopes or with white envelopes.

Sizes in postcards and greeting card printing

A6 (105 × 148 mm) is the classic postcard size. DL (99 × 210 mm) is long and slim, good for a list of dates or a menu. 148 × 148 mm is a neat square that feels a little special. A5 (148 × 210 mm) gives room for a bigger photo or more words. Postcards come in all four sizes and invitations in A6, square and A5. For greeting cards, the size is the folded size, and A5 cards come portrait or landscape. The size table near the top of the page shows live prices for popular options.

Card finishes for postcards and greeting card printing

Silk has a soft sheen and keeps photos crisp without glare. Gloss is shinier and makes colours pop. Smooth white is clean and bright. Natural and textured uncoated feel like good writing paper. Recycled has a gentle, flecked look. Brown kraft is earthy and rustic, lovely for a farm shop or a handmade brand. Pearl has a soft shimmer, which is why it turns up on wedding invitations. Gloss lamination adds a clear layer that brightens photos and helps a postcard survive the letterbox.

Artwork for postcards and greeting card printing

  • Send a print-ready PDF at the finished size with 3 mm bleed on every edge.
  • Keep words at least 3 mm inside the trim.
  • For greeting cards, send the flat, opened-out artwork with each panel in the right place, so the front ends up on the front.
  • Leave a clear space where a message or an address will be written.

Upload a print-ready file, use the free online designer, or book our paid artwork service (typesetting from your text, design from a brief, or a logo redraw), which includes 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A real person checks every uploaded file for free. See the artwork guidelines.

Timing and delivery

Each product page shows its own production days for saver, standard and express, counted in working days from when your order and artwork are confirmed. All postcards and greeting card printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. See the delivery page. Sending a mailing? Pair the cards with printed envelopes, or add flyers and leaflets for the counter.

Postcards & Greeting Cards: questions answered

What size is a normal postcard?

Most postcards are A6, 105 by 148 mm. We also print A5 at 148 by 210 mm, the long DL at 99 by 210 mm, and a 148 mm square.

Can I get envelopes with my greeting cards?

Yes, add them when you order. They come in white or red, and the envelope size, from DL and C6 up to C5 or a 155 mm square, is matched to the card you pick.

Which card should I pick for thank-you notes I will write by hand?

Skip the coated stocks and go for something with a natural surface: 300gsm smooth white, natural, textured, recycled or brown kraft. Pen ink sinks in rather than sitting on top, so your handwriting stays crisp.

How do I set up a folded card file?

Supply it flat at the opened-out size, panels in the right order, with 3 mm bleed round every edge. Our artwork guidelines explain the layout step by step.

Are envelopes included with party invitations?

Only if you want them: choose no envelopes, or white envelopes included. Invitations are printed A6, A5 or 148 mm square, on several cards including pearl and kraft.

Is my card artwork checked before printing?

Yes. A person checks every uploaded file for image quality, size and bleed. No artwork of your own? Pick paid typesetting or a full design from your brief. Paid design includes one first draft and two rounds of changes.
