Overview
Outdoor banner printing at FatPrint, in short: a banner inside a hall has an easy life. One on a gate by a main road gets rain, sun and wind every day. That is the job this one is made for.
A quick check before it goes outside
- Where will it hang? Measure the railing or wall, then round down to the nearest size so the fixings have room.
- How long for? For a long stay, hemmed edges give the border extra strength.
- What will it tie to? Pick plastic or metal eyelets, and add a bag or two of cable ties.
- How far away is the reader? Across a road, keep it to a few big words.
Outdoor banner printing in the wild
A farm shop ties an 8 ft × 3 ft (2438 × 914 mm) banner to the gate so drivers see it with time to slow down. A pub hangs a 10 ft × 3 ft (3048 × 914 mm) one along the beer garden fence for the summer quiz. A sports club puts a 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) sign by the car park entrance saying where to go on match day.
Keeping it looking good
Tie it tight at every eyelet. A banner that flaps wears at the fixings; one that is pulled taut lasts much better. Check the ties after a storm and swap any that have snapped.
Artwork, timing and getting it there
Upload a print-ready file, make one in the free online designer, or book the paid artwork service. A person checks every uploaded file for free. Standard production takes 4 working days once your order and artwork are confirmed; express is from 2, saver 6. Quantities run from 1 to 99.
UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts, and anything over 3 m on any side adds £15. Read the delivery terms, work out what size banner you need, or compare with our PVC banners.
Outdoor banner printing is only half the job; the other half is where it goes. Outdoor signs fall under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007. Many banners need no application at all, but if yours is large, lit or up for a long time, ask your council first.

Questions
Quick answers about outdoor banner printing.
How do I work out which outdoor banner size will suit the front of my cafe?
Most cafe and shop fronts take a 6 ft × 3 ft (1829 × 914 mm) or 8 ft × 3 ft (2438 × 914 mm) banner comfortably. If your frontage runs longer, step up to 10 ft × 3 ft (3048 × 914 mm) or beyond. Grab a tape measure first and check the window, fascia or railing you plan to fix it to.
Which options does this banner have?
13 sizes from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), material (440gsm PVC), eyelets (plastic eyelets or metal eyelets), hemming (hemmed edges or none) and cable ties (none, 1 bag or 2 bags). Every combination is priced on this page, from £36.53.
What is the turnaround on my outdoor banner order?
Express gets it out in 2 working days, Standard ships after 4 working days and Saver, the lowest price, after 6 working days. The clock starts once your order is placed and the file is confirmed. Mainland UK delivery adds £7.95 to the basket, and nothing once the goods reach £100 after any discount code.
How big do these come?
Smallest is 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm), largest is 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), with 11 more in between, including 4 ft 11 in × 1 ft 8 in (1500 × 500 mm). Measure your space first so your outdoor banner fits. Prices start at £36.53 and change with the size you pick.
Which material is used for the outdoor banners?
Full colour print on 440gsm PVC. Prices start at £36.53. For another material, send a request from the Get a quote page.
Is there a discount if I buy more?
Usually, yes: the more you order, the less each one tends to cost. Anything from 1 up to 99 is priced on this page for your outdoor banner order. Spend £100 on goods (design fees are not counted) and UK mainland delivery is free; otherwise it is £7.95 once.
Asked by buyers
How much will Outdoor Banners set me back?
£36.53 is where Outdoor Banners start, set up as 440gsm PVC and 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).
Is delivery ever free?
It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £36.53 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. Pick one of the biggest sizes and a one-off £15 oversize charge applies. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.
If I buy Outdoor Banners today, when will they leave you?
As the page first opens, the speeds for Outdoor Banners are Express 2 working days, Standard 4 and Saver 6, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.
Does banner artwork need bleed the way a flyer does?
Think of it as a margin more than a bleed. Run the background right off every edge, then pull every word and logo a good 50 mm inwards, clear of the folded hem and the eyelets. Set the file up at full size or an exact scale like 1:10, with images between 100 and 150 dpi once scaled up. The online editor draws the eyelets and the safe area on screen so you can see where they fall. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
Could I lay out these banners myself on your website?
Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Make the artwork for these banners the same size as the one you order, such as 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm). Material choices for Outdoor Banners: 440gsm PVC.
Which is the smallest and which the biggest banner I can order here?
Smallest: 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm), from £36.53. Biggest: 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), from £161.77. 10 more are listed in between, each priced on the cheapest options. Need something in between? Type in your own width and height, anywhere from 300 mm to 5000 by 3000 mm. Not sure which? Mark the space out with tape or string first and stand back to look.
Which size of Outdoor Banners gets noticed from across the street?
Grab a tape measure and stand where your visitors will stand. If they are walking past a few metres away, a modest size does the job; if they are across a car park or a road, go bigger. Choices here go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm) at the big end. Somewhere in between? A made-to-measure piece can be as small as 300 mm or as large as 5000 by 3000 mm. On its opening option, Outdoor Banners leaves us after 6 working days on Saver.
Will these banners survive being left outside?
Rain is not a problem. The 440gsm PVC used here is a solid vinyl that water runs straight off, and it is meant for outdoor jobs such as shop fronts, club railings, walls and fetes. Sun, wind and the way it is tied up decide how many months it looks good. A hem round the edge, metal eyelets rather than plastic, and every hole tied all make a real difference. Where it faces a strong wind on open fencing or scaffolding, mesh copes better because the air goes through.
Is there a knack to tying up these banners?
Corners go first, which keeps it level, then the rest of the eyelets along the top and bottom edges. Pull each fixing just firm enough to take up the slack without stretching the banner. Cable ties, bungees and rope all work; bungees have a bit of stretch, useful for solid PVC on a windy railing. Check it again after the first gusty day and replace anything that has snapped. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC.
Can a private person buy a single banner?
Yes. One is enough, and you do not need a business name or an account to check out. The opening price is £36.53, and any bank card will do. On its own the opening price of £36.53 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A person still checks your file before it is printed, just as for a big order.
We are a school PTA on a tight budget. How do we get a banner for the summer fair as cheaply as possible?
Start with the smallest size, 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm), from £36.53, and the Saver turnaround, which is the lowest price and takes 6 working days before it is sent. Putting the design together yourself on screen costs nothing. Leave the year off so it can go up again next summer. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added.
Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?
The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53.
Is there a minimum quantity for these banners?
The smallest order is 1 and the largest listed is 99; the list starts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and carries on from there. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you.
How much does an 8 ft × 3 ft (2438 × 914 mm) banner cost?
From £64.91, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53.
How much for the biggest size, 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm)?
From £161.77, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. That clears the £100 mark on its own, so UK mainland delivery costs nothing.
Is there a quicker turnaround for these banners?
Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 2 working days to get Outdoor Banners out, against 6 on Saver, and costs £48.70 on the opening option rather than £36.53. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.
I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Outdoor Banners cost more to send?
The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these banners leave us after 6 working days; Express brings that down to 2. The biggest sizes of these banners go by specialist courier, which adds £15 once to the order.
How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these banners?
Roughly 11,811 pixels across and 7,874 down for a 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm) design, which is 100 dpi. That is plenty for something people read from a few metres away; anywhere from 100 to 150 dpi at full size will do. Text and logos are safest as vector art, which never goes fuzzy. Pictures saved from a website or social media are nearly always too small, and our file check will point out any that could print blurred. If you have no file, you can build the design for these banners in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.
Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?
Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
How tall do the letters need to be so people can read these banners from a distance?
Start from how far back your readers will be. Capital letters 25 mm tall are good for roughly 3 m, so 240 mm capitals reach somewhere near 29 m. On a banner measuring 6 ft × 3 ft (1829 × 914 mm), that is one line of text once a 50 mm border is kept all round, leaving 814 mm of height. Add a smaller second line only if you really need it, and pick a thick, plain font. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?
You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. If fixing it sounds like a chore, choose typesetting for £15: we lay out your text and logo, show you a first draft, then make up to two rounds of changes. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
Once I finish designing these banners online, is the file mine to keep?
Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Make the artwork for these banners the same size as the one you order, such as 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm). Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53.
Our sports club wants to put these banners up on match days and take them down afterwards. Is that too much wear?
Yes, that is the kind of use it is made for. Tie it to the pitch-side rail through the eyelets, then snip or untie the ties at the end of the day and roll it up with the print on the outside. On a very exposed ground, mesh is kinder to the ties because wind passes through it. Keep it dry and rolled between fixtures and it will be ready for the next home game. You will also find these banners in our Mechanics & Garages section.
Could we put these banners up on a building site or around works?
For a few days, or somewhere sheltered, yes. If the banner will hang on open fencing for weeks, a mesh banner copes far better because the wind passes through. Secure every eyelet or hole with a cable tie and look it over after a gusty spell. You will also find these banners in our Mechanics & Garages section. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
Would these banners look right inside a hall or a shop?
Yes. PVC hangs flat and the print comes out crisp, so it suits school halls, church halls, receptions, stage fronts and indoor events. If you would rather avoid PVC indoors, our PVC-free banners are made in the same sizes. Inside you can skip the ties altogether. Hang it by the eyelets from hooks or a length of cord, or use hanging strips that peel off cleanly. You will also find these banners in our Mechanics & Garages section.
We have a school fair coming up. Would these banners be suitable?
They work well fixed to railings, fencing, a gazebo or an easel. Outdoors, look at the fixings again if it turns windy. Order with enough time for the making and the courier before the event. You will also find these banners in our Mechanics & Garages section. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you.
Would Outdoor Banners be useful for mechanics and garages?
For garages, forecourts and service bays, look under Mechanics & Garages in the shop: Outdoor Banners are listed there. Prices begin at £36.53; 12 sizes are listed, starting at 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm); they are made from 440gsm PVC. People buying for that kind of work often add NCR Pads or Vehicle Magnets. Put everything in one order and delivery is free at £100 or more.
I run a small shop. Would these banners work on the front of it?
That works well. Tie a PVC banner to the fascia or a railing to announce a launch, a sale or something new you now offer. As a guide, 6 ft 7 in × 3 ft 3 in (2000 × 1000 mm) costs £61.49. Ask your landlord first, and the local council too if the sign is big or illuminated, as some shop signs need advertisement consent.
Our spot gets windy. Is a PVC banner going to cope?
Think of solid PVC stretched along open fencing as a sail. Every gust presses on the whole sheet, and all that force ends up in the eyelets and the ties. So use every eyelet, pull it firm without stretching it, look at the ties again after the first blustery spell, and bring it in if a storm is on the way. If it has to stay up for weeks somewhere exposed, mesh is the better buy because much of the wind blows through it. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Material choices for Outdoor Banners: 440gsm PVC.
Which hemming would you suggest for Outdoor Banners?
The hemming option has 2 settings: none or Hemmed Edges. Hemming turns the edge over and welds it down, so the eyelets grip a double layer and the border is far less likely to rip. For anything facing the weather it is money well spent. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC.
Does the cable ties option I choose make a difference to Outdoor Banners?
Add a bag or two of ties and you will not be hunting for them on the day you hang it. Do the four corners first, then work along every eyelet. For Outdoor Banners the list runs 2 bags, 1 bag or none. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.
Can you explain the eyelets setting for Outdoor Banners?
The eyelets option has 2 settings: metal eyelets or plastic eyelets. Eyelets are the little rings set into the border so a tie or bungee can go through. If it is staying outside for weeks or months, go for metal, which lasts longer than plastic. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC.
How should I keep these banners between uses?
Make sure it is bone dry and clean, then roll it up loosely with the print on the outside, round a cardboard tube if one is handy. Try not to fold it, because sharp folds leave creases and the ink can crack along them. Snip off old cable ties before rolling so they do not press marks into the print, and store the roll in a dry cupboard well clear of radiators. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
Is it legal to hang these banners on a fence or building I do not own?
Only with the owner's say-so, so ask the landowner or building owner before anything goes up. In England, outdoor banners are adverts in the eyes of the 2007 Control of Advertisements Regulations. Plenty of temporary banners need no application, but the size, the location and how long it is left up all count. Your local council can tell you if you are in doubt. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each have similar rules of their own. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you.
Do I have to register before I can buy?
No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53.
Can I buy Outdoor Banners and other products in the same basket?
Yes. Different products, sizes and quantities can all sit in one basket, each as its own line with its own options. Delivery is charged once for the whole order, £7.95 to the UK mainland, and it is free when the goods reach £100 after discount codes. An oversize item adds £15, but only once however many there are. If two items share a design, choose the option to reuse artwork from another basket item and there is no second artwork fee. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53.
Can I send these banners back if I no longer need them?
Not for a change of mind. These banners are made for your order, and goods made to your specification fall outside the 14-day cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). You can still cancel and get all your money back before production begins. Anything faulty, damaged or wrong is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we reprint it or refund you. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you.
Can a volunteer order without setting up an account?
Yes. There is a guest checkout, so a one-off order does not need a login. Payment is by debit or credit card, processed by Stripe. The confirmation email that follows lists everything bought and what was paid, which helps when you claim the money back from the group. What the page shows is what the group pays, plus any delivery. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
We have several sponsors for our charity event. Can their logos all go on these banners?
Yes. Line the logos up along the bottom or in a row, keep them all a similar size so nobody feels left out, and hold them 50 mm in from the edges. Short of time? Our typesetting service (£15) or a design worked up from your notes (£35) can put it together for you, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. If a sponsor only has a blurry logo, we can rebuild it for £30. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.
Will my logo colours come out the same as on screen?
Very close, but not always identical. A screen glows, print reflects light, so a small difference is normal. Sending CMYK artwork keeps it nearest; RGB is changed to CMYK before printing and the brightest greens, blues and oranges can look a touch flatter. For an exact brand colour, give us the Pantone reference and we get as close as the material allows. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.

How we handle reviews
Only people who bought the product can review it. Each review is checked against a real order and marked "Verified owner".
We publish every genuine review, good or bad, exactly as it was written. We never edit reviews or choose which ones to show. The only reviews we hold back are spam, abuse, or ones that include personal details like a phone number or email address.
The star rating is the average of every published review. We never pay for reviews or give discounts or gifts in return for them.
Reviews show the reviewer's first name and initial. To have your own review taken down, contact us.
