Overview

Square business card printing at FatPrint, in short: hand a square card over at a wedding fair and people look at it twice. It is compact, it suits bold logos and big photos, and it still slips into a wallet. The shape suits photographers, hair salons, bakers and craft sellers.

Same weight, different surface

Both stocks weigh 350gsm, so the card feels equally firm between your fingers. What changes is the face.

  • Silk has a smooth face and a gentle sheen. Colour and photos stay sharp, so it suits a portfolio shot or strong brand colours.
  • Recycled uncoated feels natural and matt, and you can write on it with a biro or a pencil. Handy for a café that stamps loyalty cards or a maker who signs each one.

Square business card printing: to laminate or not

Laminate is optional, and when you add it, both faces get it. Matt feels calm and grown-up. Gloss makes pictures shine. Soft touch feels like velvet and gets fiddled with. Leave it off if you want the bare stock, or if you plan to write on the cards.

Printing can go on one face only, or on both, so the reverse can hold your social handle, a price list or a QR code. Runs come in 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000 and 5,000. Fifty is a cheap way to try a new design before you commit to a big batch.

Sorting the file

Your PDF should be the card size with an extra 3 mm of background running off each side, and any wording should sit a safe 3 mm or more in from where the blade cuts. Prefer to build it yourself? The free online designer does the job. Or pay us to typeset your details, design a card from your brief, or redraw a logo, each including 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A person looks over every uploaded file for free; our artwork guidelines explain bleed properly.

How long and how it gets to you

After your order and artwork are confirmed, square business card printing is ready to dispatch from 8 working days on Saver, from 6 on Standard or from 4 on Express. Posting to the UK mainland costs £7.95, and nothing on orders of £100 or more after discounts. The Highlands add £10; other areas are quoted on the delivery page. Compare every shape and stock in business cards.

Questions

Quick answers about square business card printing.

How fast can I have my square business card order?

Pick Saver (8 working days), Standard (6 working days) or Express (4 working days); that is the time before it leaves us. Spend £100 on goods (design fees are not counted) and UK mainland delivery is free; otherwise it is £7.95 once. Northern Ireland and island addresses get a delivery quote first, and the mainland Highlands add £10.

What file should I send for my square business card order?

Send a print-ready PDF at 55 × 55 mm with 3 mm bleed round every edge, and keep text 3 mm or more inside the trim. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Does a person look at my square business card artwork?

Yes. Before your square business card goes to print, someone checks resolution, size and bleed. Designing online instead? What you see on screen is exactly what gets printed.

I am a photographer. Which card works best for square business cards?

For photos and bright colours, pick 350gsm silk, which is smooth with a gentle sheen. If you want a natural, matt feel that you can write on with a pen, choose 350gsm recycled uncoated.

Do square cards need lamination?

It helps if they will be carried around in pockets, purses or bags, as it stops the print scuffing. You can have matt, gloss or soft touch, and each covers both sides.

Will a square card sit properly in a wallet?

Yes. At 55 × 55 mm it matches the height of a regular 85 × 55 mm card and is just narrower, so most wallet slots and holders take it.

Asked by buyers

How much will Square Business Cards set me back?

£18.89 is where Square Business Cards start, set up as 350gsm silk card, front only and none on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £18.89 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.

If I buy Square Business Cards today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for Square Business Cards are Express 4 working days, Standard 6 and Saver 8, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. On this page, Square Business Cards start from £18.89.

Could I lay out these cards myself on your website?

Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

How big is each finished card, and how should my file be set up?

The easy route is the online designer, which sets the size and bleed for you. A print-ready PDF works best, with 3 mm of bleed on every edge. No file yet? Our paid typesetting, design and logo redraw options can do it for you. After trimming you get 55 × 55 mm. Keep names and numbers 3 mm or more in from the cut, while backgrounds should carry on past it into the bleed so no white line shows. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

I am never sure how many to print. How many cards is sensible?

Print what you will get through before anything on it goes stale, such as a phone number, a price or an offer. You can order anything between 50 and 5,000. Try two or three amounts on this page and work out the cost per card. Testing a new design? A smaller first batch lets you see how it goes before a bigger run. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Is there a minimum quantity for these cards?

The smallest order is 50 and the largest listed is 5000; the list starts 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 and 5000. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these cards?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 4 working days to get Square Business Cards out, against 8 on Saver, and costs £21.87 on the opening option rather than £18.89. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Square Business Cards cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these cards leave us after 8 working days; Express brings that down to 4.

Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?

Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. If fixing it sounds like a chore, choose typesetting for £15: we lay out your text and logo, show you a first draft, then make up to two rounds of changes. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Once I finish designing these cards online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Does the card option I choose make a difference to Square Business Cards?

Card thickness is shown as gsm, the weight in grams of one square metre, and more gsm means a sturdier card. Coated silk card gives crisp print; recycled, textured or uncoated cards have a softer, more natural feel and are nicer to write on. For Square Business Cards the list runs 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Printed on Square Business Cards: how do the choices differ?

It sets which sides of the item get printed. For Square Business Cards the list runs both sides or front only. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

How do I pick the right lamination for Square Business Cards?

A laminate is a very thin clear layer sealed over the print. Gloss gives richer, punchier colour; matt takes the shine away so photos and text are easier to read under lights; soft touch feels smooth, almost like velvet. Whichever you pick, the surface copes better with scuffs. For Square Business Cards the list runs soft touch, both sides; gloss, both sides; matt, both sides; or none. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Do gas engineers buy Square Business Cards from you?

For gas installs and safety checks, look under Gas Engineers in the shop: Square Business Cards are listed there. Prices begin at £18.89; the material choices are 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card; you can order from 50 up to 5000. People buying for that kind of work often add NCR Pads or Flyers. Put everything in one order and delivery is free at £100 or more.

How would I decide between Textured Business Cards and Square Business Cards?

Set Square Business Cards beside Textured Business Cards and a few things differ. Material: 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card on this page, against 250gsm Rives Shetland (textured) or 300gsm textured uncoated on the other. Opening price: £18.89 on this page and £28.04 on the other. On the Standard service it is 6 working days on this page and 5 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Where do Square Business Cards and Recycled Business Cards differ?

Set Square Business Cards beside Recycled Business Cards and a few things differ. Opening price: £18.89 on this page and £18.14 on the other. On the Standard service it is 6 working days on this page and 5 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Should I get Square Business Cards, or would Uncoated Business Cards suit me better?

Set Square Business Cards beside Uncoated Business Cards and a few things differ. Material: 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card on this page, against 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft on the other. Opening price: £18.89 on this page and £18.68 on the other. On the Standard service it is 6 working days on this page and 4 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Can I send these cards back if I no longer need them?

Not for a change of mind. These cards are made for your order, and goods made to your specification fall outside the 14-day cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). You can still cancel and get all your money back before production begins. Anything faulty, damaged or wrong is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we reprint it or refund you. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Next year we will want the same card again. Is reordering easy?

Yes. Treat it as a fresh order of the same item with the same settings, and attach the file you used last time. For online designs, the print-ready PDF from the original paid order is waiting in My Account and your confirmation email. Change any details that have moved on, such as a new email address or this year's date, before uploading. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

Our club needs a big batch of cards, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

Who looks after me once I have bought Square Business Cards?

You deal with FatPrint the whole way through. Once you order, somebody checks the artwork, Square Business Cards are printed specially for your order, and a courier delivers them with a tracking link by email. Need to ask something along the way? Use the question box here or the Contact page and a real person answers.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Every order gets a confirmation email listing what was bought, the options chosen and the amount paid, and a club, school or small firm can file that as its record of payment. What you pay for these cards is the price shown on the page plus any delivery charge, nothing more. If your accounts need a particular kind of invoice, ask through the Contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can provide. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?

One checkout covers the lot. Add a basket line for every design, attach the right file to each, then pay once. You pay a single delivery charge of £7.95 for the whole order, or nothing if the goods add up to £100 or more. Repeating one design on another line? Choose the artwork choice that points to a file already in the basket, and no second design fee is charged. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

Can a volunteer order without setting up an account?

Yes. There is a guest checkout, so a one-off order does not need a login. Payment is by debit or credit card, processed by Stripe. The confirmation email that follows lists everything bought and what was paid, which helps when you claim the money back from the group. What the page shows is what the group pays, plus any delivery. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Look everything over when it arrives. If something is damaged or missing, contact us within 48 hours through the contact form, with your order number and photos of both the item and the packaging. Please keep hold of it until we reply; we then sort out a reprint or a refund. Your legal rights stay the same, as the returns page sets out. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

Can the back of these cards carry different information from the front?

It can. Choose double-sided printing and upload a two-page PDF, with the front as page one and the back as page two. The back is handy for a club's fixtures, a cafe menu, collection times or directions to a venue. In the online designer, switch between front and back as you work. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

I have never ordered printing before. Do I need to know the technical words?

No. A person on our team checks every file for size, bleed and resolution and tells you in plain words if anything needs changing. The free online designer also warns you about small text and blurry images before you finish. Or pick typesetting for £15 and we lay out your words and logo for you, with a first draft and two rounds of changes. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Will my logo colours come out the same as on screen?

Very close, but not always identical. A screen glows, print reflects light, so a small difference is normal. Sending CMYK artwork keeps it nearest; RGB is changed to CMYK before printing and the brightest greens, blues and oranges can look a touch flatter. For an exact brand colour, give us the Pantone reference and we get as close as the material allows. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Can I design these cards first and show the committee before we pay?

Yes. The online designer is free to use, so you can build the design, look at it on screen and share it round before anyone commits. The preview carries a watermark on screen only; it never appears on the printed item. When everyone is happy, finish the design and order. What you see is what gets printed, so check names, dates and numbers together first. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.89.

Will a pen write cleanly on these cards?

Depends on the surface. Uncoated and textured cards are the friendliest for biros and fountain pens. Silk card takes a biro once the ink has dried; gloss and laminated finishes need a permanent pen and may still smear. Planning to write on the back, for example appointment times or a note? Leave that side without lamination. For these cards, the material can be 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card.

Do colours print softer on uncoated, recycled or textured paper?

Yes. Uncoated, textured and recycled stocks absorb more ink, so the result is softer and more matt than on a coated sheet. That quieter look is often the reason people choose them. For the closest match to set brand colours, a silk or coated option is the better bet. For these cards, the material can be 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card.

How should we keep these cards in good condition until we need them?

Flat, dry and dark is the rule. Leave them in their box, away from damp, direct sun and heaters. Damp paper curls and can jam a printer, while sunlight slowly fades the ink. Take a handful at a time and keep the rest boxed. For these cards, the material can be 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card.
