Overview

NCR set printing at FatPrint, in short: NCR stands for no carbon required. The sheets are coated so pressure from a pen on the top copy marks the ones below. No messy carbon paper, no rewriting the same job twice.

Loose sets or a book? Get this right first

These are loose sets, not glued into a book or pad. That suits a clipboard, a ring binder or a printer tray. If you want a bound book that sits in the van glovebox, look at the books and pads in invoice books and pads instead. The quantity is the number of sets, not sheets, so 100 sets of 3-part gives you 300 sheets.

How many parts

  • 2-part (white, yellow). One for the customer, one for you. Receipts and simple delivery notes.
  • 3-part (white, yellow, pink). Adds an office or accounts copy. Common for job sheets.
  • 4-part (white, yellow, pink, blue). For when the driver, the warehouse and the customer all need a copy.

NCR set printing: size and print

A6 (105 × 148 mm) makes a handy receipt. DL (99 × 210 mm) fits a slim order form. A5 (148 × 210 mm) suits job sheets. A4 (210 × 297 mm) gives space for full delivery notes or inspection checklists. Print black on the front only, full colour on the front, black on both sides (terms on the back), or full colour front with a black back. A garden centre might use A5 3-part delivery notes; a mobile mechanic might go A4 with a checklist.

Paperwork and the law

If your NCR set is an invoice, it needs the right details on it. GOV.UK sets these out in invoicing and taking payment from customers, so read it before you finalise the design and save yourself a reprint.

Artwork, timing and delivery

Upload a print-ready PDF or design your form in the free online designer; the paid artwork service can lay it out for you. A person checks every uploaded file for free. See the artwork guidelines. NCR set printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK: Express from 8 working days, Standard from 9, Saver from 11, once your order and artwork are confirmed. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery.

Questions

Quick answers about ncr set printing.

I use a clipboard for jobs. Should I get NCR sets rather than books or pads?

Sets are probably right. They come loose, each one separate, so they slot onto a clipboard, into a tray or into a folder. NCR Invoice Books and NCR Pads are other products, where the sets are bound together.

How many copies does a small business need in each NCR set?

With 2 parts, white and yellow, one copy goes to the customer and you keep the other. A 3rd part adds pink, often kept in the office. A 4th part adds blue, handy when your accounts team also wants a copy.

If I order 500, do I get 500 sheets or 500 sets?

You get 500 sets. So with a 3-part order of 500, every one of the 500 sets has a white, a yellow and a pink part.

What size should I go for?

A6 (105 × 148 mm) and DL (99 × 210 mm) are handy for receipts and short notes. A5 (148 × 210 mm) fits delivery notes and job sheets, and A4 (210 × 297 mm) leaves room for invoices and fuller reports. Each size is priced on this page.

How should I supply the design for my forms?

Usually one design covers every part of the form. Send a print-ready PDF in black only or full colour, whichever you chose, or lay it out in the online designer. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Does a person look at my NCR set artwork?

Yes. Before your NCR set goes to print, someone checks resolution, size and bleed. Designing online instead? What you see on screen is exactly what gets printed. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

How long until my NCR set order ships?

On Standard it is made and handed to the courier within 9 working days; Express shortens that to 8 working days, Saver stretches it to 11 working days for less. Spend £100 on goods (design fees are not counted) and UK mainland delivery is free; otherwise it is £7.95 once. Northern Ireland and island addresses get a delivery quote first, and the mainland Highlands add £10.

Asked by buyers

How cheaply can I get hold of NCR Sets?

Picked the way the page first loads, with A5 · 148 × 210 mm, 2-part (white, yellow) and black, front only, NCR Sets come to £37.02. Any other mix of options, a faster turnaround included, gets its own price the moment you choose it, and that figure is what you pay at checkout. Only delivery is left to add. On its own the opening price of £37.02 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero.

Is delivery extra on top of the price of NCR Sets?

Send it to a UK mainland address for a flat £7.95, or for free when the goods in the basket add up to £100 or more after discounts; artwork and design charges do not count towards that. An order of just this at the opening price of £37.02 is under £100, so it pays the £7.95. We price delivery first for Northern Ireland and for the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands, Scilly, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Man; Highland addresses on the mainland just pay £10 extra, one time per order.

Which turnaround speeds can I choose for NCR Sets?

Allow 11 working days on Saver, 9 on Standard or 8 on Express before NCR Sets are handed to the courier, based on the options the page opens with. Weekends and bank holidays are not counted, and nothing starts until the order is paid and the artwork is confirmed. Pick another size or material and the days beside each speed update, sometimes by a day. After it leaves us, the courier normally delivers in one to three working days and you get the tracking link by email.

I am setting up my first book. What should it show?

At the top: your business name and logo, then address, email and phone. Limited companies should add their company number; a VAT number only goes on once you are registered for VAT. Below that, the boxes you complete each time: customer, date, item or job lines, quantity, price and total, and, if you invoice from it, your bank details and payment terms. Leave plenty of room for real handwriting. Would you rather we laid it out? The typesetting option costs £15. If you have no file, you can build the design for these books in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Which artwork services are offered with NCR Sets?

Several routes, all chosen under Artwork on this page. Send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. The fee is the same whatever quantity you order and shows separately in the basket. There is also a free online designer if you want to build it yourself. On its opening option, NCR Sets leaves us after 11 working days on Saver.

Is the online designer free, and how do I use it?

Pick a starting layout, swap in your own words, logo and pictures, and move things around until it looks right. While you work, the tool flags sample text you forgot to change, small text, items outside the safe area and blurry images, before you can finish. It is free to use and the on-screen watermark does not print. What you see is what we print. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A5 (148 × 210 mm). Nothing is printed ahead of time: each book is made to order for you.

There is no carbon sheet, so how does the copy come through?

NCR means "no carbon required": the paper itself is coated, so pressing with a pen on the first sheet leaves a mark on each one below it. Use a ballpoint and press firmly. Slip the backing board, or a piece of card, under the set you are writing on so the marks stop there and the set below stays clean. Gel pens and felt tips are too soft to give a clear copy. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each book is made to order for you. Before delivery, these books cost from £37.02.

How many copies should each page of these books make?

Count who needs a copy. Two-part: the customer keeps one and you keep one. Three-part: add a copy for your office or whoever does your books. Four-part: one more again, such as a supplier copy or one for the job file. Options on this page: 4-part (white, yellow, pink, blue), 2-part (white, yellow) and 3-part (white, yellow, pink). Each copy has its own colour, which makes it clear which sheet goes to whom. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Which sizes can NCR Sets be printed in?

The table has 2 sizes. At the small end, A5 (148 × 210 mm) costs from £37.02; at the top, A4 (210 × 297 mm) costs from £39.35. Each figure is for the cheapest set of options at that size. Unsure? Measure where it will go and check the view from the spot people will stand.

How many NCR Sets can I buy at one time?

Anything from 50 to 5000. The quantity choices on the page run 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2500 and 5000. The figure shown is for the whole batch, not for one, so divide it by the number you picked to see the cost of each. If you need more than 5000, send the size, number and date through our Get a quote page. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

How much for the biggest size, A4 (210 × 297 mm)?

From £39.35 for 50, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Before delivery, these books cost from £37.02.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

No surprises: what the page shows for these books is the goods figure you pay at checkout. Delivery is the one extra, £7.95 to a UK mainland address, and it drops away when the goods reach £100 after discounts. Paid artwork help shows up as its own basket line, so you can check each amount before paying. Before delivery, these books cost from £37.02.

Is there a minimum quantity for NCR Sets?

Yes. You can start at 50, with 100, 250, 500 and 1000 as the next steps. Each price is the total for that quantity, so divide it to compare the cost of one item across a few options before deciding. For an amount outside the list, ask for a quote. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Do you send to Northern Ireland or the islands?

Yes, anywhere in the UK, though the price differs by area. A Highlands postcode on the mainland pays the usual rate plus a single £10 for the order, and that £10 still applies when the rest of the delivery is free. Northern Ireland gets a price worked out first, as do the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands, Scilly, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Man: send your postcode through our Get a quote page or the Contact page. We cannot send anything outside the UK. Before delivery, these books cost from £37.02.

Our event is close. Can NCR Sets be rushed?

Yes. Choose Express and NCR Sets can be on the way in 8 working days on the opening option, for £42.87, where Saver is £37.02 and takes 11 days. Then give the courier one to three working days, and send the artwork with the order, because the clock does not run until the file is sorted. If the date is really tight, message us on the Contact page before paying and we will tell you honestly.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

That is why a person looks at every upload before anything is printed. Typical snags are a document at the wrong size, missing bleed, blurry photos and words sitting too near the trim. If we spot one, we explain what to change and you send a fresh file. Or hand it over to us: for £15 our typesetting places your wording and logo on a neat layout, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these books?

Close-up items need about 300 dpi at full size. So an A4 (210 × 297 mm) layout wants about 2,480 by 3,508 pixels. Keep lettering and logos as vectors if you can. An image copied off a web page or a social post rarely has enough pixels; if yours looks likely to print soft, our file check flags it. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Yes, a real person on our team opens every uploaded file and checks the size, the bleed and the resolution. If something is off, you hear from us before anything is made. Designs made in the online designer are printed exactly as they looked on screen. We print what you send, though, so read the spelling, numbers and dates yourself as well. Making starts when the order and the file are both confirmed. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A5 (148 × 210 mm).

Can I send a Word or Canva file for NCR Sets?

Word, PowerPoint and Canva are a fair place to start, but export a high quality PDF from them before uploading. Our first choice is always a PDF at the ordered size with fonts embedded or outlined, followed by AI, EPS or SVG, then high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF. You can add three files, each up to 25 MB, on this page, or upload them after ordering from the email we send. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A5 (148 × 210 mm).

Someone else is putting our file together. How does it reach you?

Easiest route: they send the finished file to whoever placed the order, and it gets uploaded after ordering. Up to 3 files of 25 MB each are fine. They can also reach us through the Contact page, as long as they quote your order number so it lands on the right job. Production waits for the checked file, so a late file means a later dispatch date. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Once I finish designing these books online, is the file mine to keep?

Two ways. Buy the file on its own: finish your design and pay £9.99 for the print-ready PDF, though you give up the right to cancel as soon as you start downloading it. Or order printing, and a full resolution PDF of the design travels with the order, waiting for you in your confirmation email and under My Account once you have paid. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A5 (148 × 210 mm). Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Can you explain the parts setting for NCR Sets?

The parts option has 3 settings: 4-part (white, yellow, pink, blue); 2-part (white, yellow); or 3-part (white, yellow, pink). Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Which printing would you suggest for NCR Sets?

Choose black only or full colour, and one side or both. For NCR Sets the list runs full colour front, black back; black, both sides; full colour, front only; or black, front only. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Do air conditioning and refrigeration engineers buy NCR Sets from you?

For air con and fridge servicing, look under Air Con & Refrigeration in the shop: NCR Sets are listed there. Prices begin at £37.02; 2 sizes are listed, starting at A5 (148 × 210 mm); you can order from 50 up to 5000. People buying for that kind of work often add NCR Pads or A2 Magnetic Signs. One basket can hold the lot, and delivery is free once the goods reach £100.

Where do NCR Sets and Desk Pads differ?

Comparing NCR Sets with Desk Pads, this is what changes. Sizes: 2 on this page, the smallest A5 (148 × 210 mm), and 8 on the other, the smallest DL portrait. Opening price: £37.02 on this page and £20.60 on the other. On the Standard service it is 9 working days on this page and 7 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

How would I decide between Custom A5 Notebooks and NCR Sets?

Set NCR Sets beside Custom A5 Notebooks and a few things differ. Opening price: £37.02 on this page and £124.44 on the other. On the Standard service it is 9 working days on this page and 11 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Should I get NCR Sets, or would Premium A5 Hardcover Notebooks suit me better?

Set NCR Sets beside Premium A5 Hardcover Notebooks and a few things differ. Opening price: £37.02 on this page and £210.62 on the other. On the Standard service it is 9 working days on this page and 5 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Keep the order confirmation email we send: it itemises the purchase and the payment, and works as a plain receipt for your records. The total at checkout for these books is the goods price on the page plus delivery, so the email matches what left the account. Need something more formal for an audit or a grant claim? Message us from the Contact page with your order number. Before delivery, these books cost from £37.02.

We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?

No. Each design goes into the basket as a separate line with its own file or online design, and you pay for them all in one checkout. Delivery is counted once for the whole order and costs nothing when the goods reach £100. If two lines share the same artwork, pick the artwork option that reuses a file already in your basket, so any design fee is only paid once. Before delivery, these books cost from £37.02.

Next year we will want the same book again. Is reordering easy?

Very. Choose the same product with the same options and upload the same file, and it is made again exactly as before. Designed it online? The print PDF from your first paid order stays in My Account and in the confirmation email, so you can reuse it. Before you repeat it, read the wording again: dates, prices, opening times and contact details are the things that go out of date. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Can I pay for NCR Sets by card as a guest?

Yes. Guest checkout is fine, and any debit or credit card works. Stripe processes the payment for us, which keeps your card number off our system entirely. We begin making these books once the payment has cleared and the artwork is confirmed. Large or out of the ordinary jobs can be quoted first from the Get a quote page. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each book is made to order for you.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

There is no need to sign up. Pay as a guest with a bank card, handled securely by Stripe, and you still get an order confirmation email and a tracking email on dispatch. An account is optional; it just keeps your order history in one place, along with downloads of designs you made online. Before delivery, these books cost from £37.02.

Who looks after me once I have bought NCR Sets?

FatPrint does, from start to finish. We take your order and payment, a person on our team checks your file, and NCR Sets are made to order for you rather than taken off a shelf. It then goes to you by courier, with tracking sent by email. Questions before or after ordering go through the box on this page or the Contact page, and a person replies.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Take photos of the damage and the box it came in, then send them through the contact form within 48 hours of delivery, with your order number. Hold on to the item rather than posting it back; we reply and arrange a reprint or refund. This sits alongside your legal rights, which the returns page covers. Choose Saver and these books leave us after 11 working days; Express brings that down to 8.

I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these books?

You do not need to be a designer, and nobody expects a parent or a club helper to be one. You can use the online designer at no cost, which checks things like tiny text and blurry photos as you go. Or choose typesetting for £15 and send us your text and logo; you get a first draft and up to two rounds of changes. A second pair of eyes on the spelling always helps. Sizes for these books go from A5 (148 × 210 mm) at the small end to A4 (210 × 297 mm), 2 in all.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Five things: placeholder wording still sitting in the layout, lettering smaller than will print clearly, anything creeping past the safe area or right up to the trim, logos or photos with too few pixels for the size, and shapes lying on top of words. A serious issue has to be sorted before you finish, while a plain warning can be accepted if you are happy with it. Your spelling is not read, so go over names, numbers and dates yourself. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A5 (148 × 210 mm).

Can I design these books first and show the committee before we pay?

You can. Designing online costs nothing until you order, so make a draft, show it to the group and tweak it as often as you like. The on-screen watermark is only there on the preview and is never printed. The designer flags things like small text or low-resolution photos as you go, but it cannot catch a wrong date, so have a second person read it. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A5 (148 × 210 mm).

What details should go on these books for a small business or club?

The essentials are your name and logo, a short line about what you offer, and how to reach you: phone, email, website and the area you serve. Where a registration number is required for your work, include it as text. Leave some space around everything; a crowded design is harder to take in. You will also find these books in our Plumbers & Heating Engineers, Mechanics & Garages, Lifting & Inspection, Gas Engineers, Fire Safety Engineers, Electricians, Builders & Construction and Air Con & Refrigeration sections.
