Overview

Uncoated business card printing at FatPrint, in short: a barber writes the next appointment on the back of a card. A florist pencils a care tip on one and tucks it in the wrapping. A joiner leaves a card with a quick note on the kitchen worktop. Shiny cards fight you on all three. Uncoated card just takes the ink.

Five stocks, five personalities

  • 300gsm brown kraft: earthy and rustic, a natural fit for coffee roasters, gardeners and makers.
  • 300gsm textured uncoated: a visible grain you can feel with your thumb.
  • 300gsm smooth white: the cleanest surface, best for crisp type and fine logos.
  • 300gsm natural uncoated: a warmer, softer tone than bright white.
  • 350gsm recycled uncoated: made from recycled material, and the heaviest of the five.

All five take pen and pencil, so pick on look and feel.

Uncoated business card printing: corners and sides

Square corners are the classic shape. Rounded corners give a softer, friendlier look. Print just the front for a clean name-and-number card, or use both sides so the reverse can hold a price list, a map pin or a blank space for writing notes.

Runs come in 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000 and 5,000. Fifty is a sensible first order if you are torn between two stocks.

Getting the file right

Your PDF should be the card size with an extra 3 mm of background running off each side, and any wording should sit a safe 3 mm or more in from where the blade cuts. No file yet? The free online designer works well, or pay us to typeset your details, design from your brief or redraw a logo, each with 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A person looks over every uploaded file for free. The artwork guidelines go into more detail.

Timing and delivery

Once your order and artwork are confirmed, uncoated business card printing is ready to dispatch from 5 working days on Saver, from 4 on Standard or from 3 on Express. Posting to the UK mainland costs £7.95, and nothing once the order reaches £100 after discounts; see delivery. Compare laminated, square and textured options in business cards.

Questions

Quick answers about uncoated business card printing.

How fast can I have my uncoated business card order?

Express gets it out in 3 working days, Standard ships after 4 working days and Saver, the lowest price, after 5 working days. Goods worth £100 or more travel free to a UK mainland address; below that, delivery is a flat £7.95 for the whole order. Northern Ireland and island addresses get a delivery quote first, and the mainland Highlands add £10.

What file should I send for my uncoated business card order?

Send a print-ready PDF at 85 × 55 mm with 3 mm bleed round every edge, and keep text 3 mm or more inside the trim. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Does a person look at my uncoated business card artwork?

Yes. Before your uncoated business card goes to print, someone checks resolution, size and bleed. Designing online instead? What you see on screen is exactly what gets printed.

There are five uncoated cards to choose from. How do I decide?

It comes down to the look you want. Brown kraft feels rustic and earthy, and smooth white keeps lettering sharp. Textured shows a visible grain, and natural is warmer in tone. The 350gsm recycled uncoated is the thickest.

I like the brown kraft card. What happens to my colours on it?

Because the card itself is brown, colours come out darker and anything white in your design shows as brown. Strong, dark designs look best, so bear that in mind when choosing colours.

Are rounded corners worth choosing on uncoated cards?

They feel softer and are less likely to get dog-eared in a wallet or pocket. Square corners give the traditional look and suit most layouts.

Asked by buyers

How much will Uncoated Business Cards set me back?

£18.68 is where Uncoated Business Cards start, set up as 350gsm recycled uncoated, front only and square corners on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £18.68 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.

If I buy Uncoated Business Cards today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for Uncoated Business Cards are Express 3 working days, Standard 4 and Saver 5, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. On its opening option, Uncoated Business Cards leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Could I lay out these cards myself on your website?

Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

How big is each finished card, and how should my file be set up?

The easy route is the online designer, which sets the size and bleed for you. A print-ready PDF works best, with 3 mm of bleed on every edge. No file yet? Our paid typesetting, design and logo redraw options can do it for you. After trimming you get 85 × 55 mm. Keep names and numbers 3 mm or more in from the cut, while backgrounds should carry on past it into the bleed so no white line shows. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

I am never sure how many to print. How many cards is sensible?

Print what you will get through before anything on it goes stale, such as a phone number, a price or an offer. You can order anything between 50 and 5,000. Try two or three amounts on this page and work out the cost per card. Testing a new design? A smaller first batch lets you see how it goes before a bigger run. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Is there a minimum quantity for these cards?

The smallest order is 50 and the largest listed is 5000; the list starts 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 and 5000. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these cards?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 3 working days to get Uncoated Business Cards out, against 5 on Saver, and costs £21.63 on the opening option rather than £18.68. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Uncoated Business Cards cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these cards leave us after 5 working days; Express brings that down to 3.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. If fixing it sounds like a chore, choose typesetting for £15: we lay out your text and logo, show you a first draft, then make up to two rounds of changes. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?

Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Once I finish designing these cards online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Can you explain the corners setting for Uncoated Business Cards?

Square corners are the normal straight cut; rounded corners are trimmed into a gentle curve. For Uncoated Business Cards the list runs Rounded corners or square corners. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Card on Uncoated Business Cards: how do the choices differ?

Card thickness is shown as gsm, the weight in grams of one square metre, and more gsm means a sturdier card. Coated silk card gives crisp print; recycled, textured or uncoated cards have a softer, more natural feel and are nicer to write on. For Uncoated Business Cards the list runs 300gsm natural uncoated, 300gsm smooth white card, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

How do I pick the right printed for Uncoated Business Cards?

It sets which sides of the item get printed. For Uncoated Business Cards the list runs both sides or front only. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Where do Uncoated Business Cards and Recycled Business Cards differ?

Set Uncoated Business Cards beside Recycled Business Cards and a few things differ. Opening price: £18.68 on this page and £18.14 on the other. On the Standard service it is 4 working days on this page and 5 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

How would I decide between Square Business Cards and Uncoated Business Cards?

Set Uncoated Business Cards beside Square Business Cards and a few things differ. Material: 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft on this page, against 350gsm recycled uncoated or 350gsm silk card on the other. Opening price: £18.68 on this page and £18.89 on the other. On the Standard service it is 4 working days on this page and 6 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Should I get Uncoated Business Cards, or would Textured Business Cards suit me better?

Set Uncoated Business Cards beside Textured Business Cards and a few things differ. Material: 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft on this page, against 250gsm Rives Shetland (textured) or 300gsm textured uncoated on the other. Opening price: £18.68 on this page and £28.04 on the other. On the Standard service it is 4 working days on this page and 5 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Which cards do you take, and is paying online safe?

You pay by debit or credit card when you check out, and you can do it as a guest without making an account. Card details are handled by Stripe, a specialist payment company, so the full card number never reaches us or sits on our system. Printing starts after payment goes through and your file has been checked. If your group needs a price agreed before anyone pays, ask for a quote instead. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Next year we will want the same card again. Is reordering easy?

Yes. Treat it as a fresh order of the same item with the same settings, and attach the file you used last time. For online designs, the print-ready PDF from the original paid order is waiting in My Account and your confirmation email. Change any details that have moved on, such as a new email address or this year's date, before uploading. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Can I swap my file once I have paid?

It depends on timing. Until production begins, a new file can replace the old one, or the order can be cancelled with a full refund; once it has begun, nothing can be changed. Message us straight away on the Contact page with your order number. Items printed exactly as supplied or designed do not count as faulty, so check names, numbers and dates first. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Our club needs a big batch of cards, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Can I send these cards back if I no longer need them?

Not for a change of mind. These cards are made for your order, and goods made to your specification fall outside the 14-day cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). You can still cancel and get all your money back before production begins. Anything faulty, damaged or wrong is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we reprint it or refund you. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Every order gets a confirmation email listing what was bought, the options chosen and the amount paid, and a club, school or small firm can file that as its record of payment. What you pay for these cards is the price shown on the page plus any delivery charge, nothing more. If your accounts need a particular kind of invoice, ask through the Contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can provide. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

I am not sure which options to pick for these cards. Can someone advise me?

Of course. Tell us three things: where these cards will go, whether it is for one day or for years, and your deadline. Send that through the question box on this page or the Contact page, and a member of the team will suggest options. If what you need is outside the options listed, the Get a quote page lets you describe it and get a price. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Can a volunteer order without setting up an account?

Yes. There is a guest checkout, so a one-off order does not need a login. Payment is by debit or credit card, processed by Stripe. The confirmation email that follows lists everything bought and what was paid, which helps when you claim the money back from the group. What the page shows is what the group pays, plus any delivery. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Look everything over when it arrives. If something is damaged or missing, contact us within 48 hours through the contact form, with your order number and photos of both the item and the packaging. Please keep hold of it until we reply; we then sort out a reprint or a refund. Your legal rights stay the same, as the returns page sets out. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these cards?

Yes. The online designer is free to use: start from a ready-made layout, swap in your wording and see exactly what will print. If you would rather hand it over, typesetting costs £15: send the words and a logo, and we set them out neatly, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Either way, get someone else to read the names, dates and numbers before it goes to print. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Can the back of these cards carry different information from the front?

It can. Choose double-sided printing and upload a two-page PDF, with the front as page one and the back as page two. The back is handy for a club's fixtures, a cafe menu, collection times or directions to a venue. In the online designer, switch between front and back as you work. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Can I design these cards first and show the committee before we pay?

Yes. The online designer is free to use, so you can build the design, look at it on screen and share it round before anyone commits. The preview carries a watermark on screen only; it never appears on the printed item. When everyone is happy, finish the design and order. What you see is what gets printed, so check names, dates and numbers together first. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Before delivery, these cards cost from £18.68.

Will a pen write cleanly on these cards?

Depends on the surface. Uncoated and textured cards are the friendliest for biros and fountain pens. Silk card takes a biro once the ink has dried; gloss and laminated finishes need a permanent pen and may still smear. Planning to write on the back, for example appointment times or a note? Leave that side without lamination. For these cards, the material can be 300gsm natural uncoated, 300gsm smooth white card, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft.

Do colours print softer on uncoated, recycled or textured paper?

Yes. Uncoated, textured and recycled stocks absorb more ink, so the result is softer and more matt than on a coated sheet. That quieter look is often the reason people choose them. For the closest match to set brand colours, a silk or coated option is the better bet. For these cards, the material can be 300gsm natural uncoated, 300gsm smooth white card, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft.

What details should go on these cards for a small business or club?

Start with your name and logo, a few words on what you do, then your phone number, email, website and the area you cover. If your line of work needs a registration number, add it as text. Less is more: a handful of big, clear words is easier to read than a long list. For these cards, the material can be 300gsm natural uncoated, 300gsm smooth white card, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft.

Can these cards go in the recycling bin afterwards?

Plain paper and card without lamination go in with ordinary paper recycling, so once the event, offer or year is over they can go in the paper bin at home or work. Lamination, foil and plastic make recycling harder, and rules vary from one council to the next, so check what yours accepts before binning those. Recycled versions are available too. For these cards, the material can be 300gsm natural uncoated, 300gsm smooth white card, 350gsm recycled uncoated, 300gsm textured uncoated or 300gsm brown kraft.
