Overview

NCR pad printing at FatPrint, in short: a tyre fitter writes up a job, rips off the whole set, hands the white copy to the driver and drops the yellow one in a tray for the office. No spine to fold back, no stub to tear out. That is the difference between a pad and a book.

Pad or book?

A book keeps your copies bound together with numbered sets, which suits invoices you need to account for in order. A pad is glued at the head with a stiff card back, and each set comes away in one piece. It suits forms that get filed somewhere else: collection slips, order forms, site checklists and job cards.

NCR pad printing: parts, sizes and ink

  • 2-part: white top, yellow copy.
  • 3-part: white, yellow, pink.
  • 4-part: white, yellow, pink, blue.

NCR paper needs no carbon: the pressure of your pen copies through the coated sheets. A6 is pocket sized for quick tickets. A5 handles most everyday forms. A4 leaves room for long quotes, inspection checklists or a detailed delivery docket. The front can be printed in plain black, or in full colour so your logo and brand shades show up. Every pad has 50 sets, and you can order 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 or 50 pads.

Setting out your form

Upload your own form, build one in the free online designer, or use our paid artwork service to lay it out with your logo, contact details, payment details and small print. A person checks every uploaded file for free, and our artwork guidelines have tips on sizing. Leave enough room to write: a form that looks tidy on screen can feel cramped with a biro in hand.

Timing and delivery

Count from the moment we have confirmed both the order and the artwork: NCR pad printing then takes 9 working days to dispatch on Standard, 8 on Express or 11 on Saver. Posting to the UK mainland costs £7.95, and nothing on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery. Numbered books are in invoice books and pads.

Using a pad for invoices? The government page on invoicing and taking payment from customers sets out what an invoice should include, so build those details into your layout.

Questions

Quick answers about ncr pad printing.

How many sheets are there in one NCR pad?

There are 50 sets in every pad. Take a 3-part pad: that works out at 150 sheets, with 50 each in white, yellow and pink.

Our office manager asked for NCR pads. What does NCR actually mean?

It stands for no carbon required. The paper is coated, so whatever you write on the top sheet comes through onto the sheets below, no carbon paper needed.

What colour are the copies in a 3-part NCR pad?

In a 3-part pad the top sheet is white, then yellow, then pink. A 2-part pad has white and yellow, and a 4-part pad runs white, yellow, pink and blue.

Do NCR pads have numbered sheets for my records?

They do not; pads come without numbers. For numbered sets, look at the NCR invoice books instead, where every set is numbered in order.

Could you design a job sheet or invoice layout to go on the pads?

Yes. Select the design help you want in the artwork section, then list what the sheet should include, perhaps a logo, your address, company or VAT number, payment details and terms. We send a first draft, and two rounds of edits are included.

How fast can I have my NCR pad order?

Pick Saver (11 working days), Standard (9 working days) or Express (8 working days); that is the time before it leaves us. Spend £100 on goods (design fees are not counted) and UK mainland delivery is free; otherwise it is £7.95 once. Northern Ireland and island addresses get a delivery quote first, and the mainland Highlands add £10.

Asked by buyers

How much will NCR Pads set me back?

£41.37 is where NCR Pads start, set up as A4 · 210 × 297 mm, 2-part (white, yellow) and black, front only on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £41.37 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.

If I buy NCR Pads today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for NCR Pads are Express 8 working days, Standard 9 and Saver 11, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use.

I am setting up my first book. What should it show?

Think of it in two halves. The fixed part: business name, logo, contact details, a company number if you are limited, and a VAT number only if you are registered. The part you fill in each time: customer, date, what you did or sold, quantities, prices, total, and bank details with payment terms if it doubles as an invoice. Our typesetting service (£15) can lay it out for you. If you have no file, you can build the design for these books in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Could I lay out these books myself on your website?

Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A4 (210 × 297 mm).

There is no carbon sheet, so how does the copy come through?

The sheets are coated, which is what "no carbon required" (NCR) refers to: pen pressure on the top copy transfers to each sheet below. A ballpoint pressed firmly works best; gel and felt tip pens do not press hard enough. Put the backing board or some card behind the set you are filling in, so the writing stops there. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each book is made to order for you.

How many copies should each page of these books make?

Most small businesses start with two copies: top sheet to the customer, second to you. Go to three if an office or bookkeeper needs one, and four if a supplier or a job file needs one as well. Here you can pick 4-part (white, yellow, pink, blue), 3-part (white, yellow, pink) or 2-part (white, yellow). The copy colours are different, so sorting them is easy. Before delivery, these books cost from £41.37.

What are the measurements of NCR Pads?

It measures A4 (210 × 297 mm) and costs from £41.37. If that is not quite right for your space, the NCR Invoice Books or the Business Cards may fit better. Spend £100 on goods and mainland delivery is free; below that it is £7.95. Other settings on the page, such as quantity, adjust the total as you go.

Is there a minimum quantity for these books?

The smallest order is 1 and the largest listed is 50; the list starts 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. For reference, these books measure A4 (210 × 297 mm).

How many sets does one book hold?

Straight from the details for NCR Pads: 50 per pad. The rest of the spec sits in the Specifications tab further down the page. Want it done another way? Describe it in the question box or on our quote form, and a person will let you know if it can be done.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. For reference, these books measure A4 (210 × 297 mm).

Can a private person buy a single book?

Yes. One is enough, and you do not need a business name or an account to check out. The opening price is £41.37, and any bank card will do. On its own the opening price of £41.37 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A person still checks your file before it is printed, just as for a big order.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these books?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 8 working days to get NCR Pads out, against 11 on Saver, and costs £47.90 on the opening option rather than £41.37. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will NCR Pads cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these books leave us after 11 working days; Express brings that down to 8.

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A4 (210 × 297 mm).

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these books?

Roughly 2,480 pixels across and 3,508 down for an A4 (210 × 297 mm) design, which is 300 dpi. Things read at arm's length need that 300 dpi at full size to stay crisp. Text and logos are safest as vector art, which never goes fuzzy. Pictures saved from a website or social media are nearly always too small, and our file check will point out any that could print blurred.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these books in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. If fixing it sounds like a chore, choose typesetting for £15: we lay out your text and logo, show you a first draft, then make up to two rounds of changes. For reference, these books measure A4 (210 × 297 mm).

Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?

Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A4 (210 × 297 mm).

Once I finish designing these books online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A4 (210 × 297 mm).

Which binding keeps NCR Pads together?

Straight from the details for NCR Pads: Glued along the top edge, card backing. The rest of the spec sits in the Specifications tab further down the page. Want it done another way? Describe it in the question box or on our quote form, and a person will let you know if it can be done.

Does the printing option I choose make a difference to NCR Pads?

The printing option has 2 settings: full colour, front only; or black, front only. Choose black only or full colour, and one side or both. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. Before delivery, these books cost from £41.37.

Which parts would you suggest for NCR Pads?

For NCR Pads the list runs 4-part (white, yellow, pink, blue); 3-part (white, yellow, pink); or 2-part (white, yellow). Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear. Switch between the options on the page and the total moves with you, so comparing costs is quick.

Which colours are the copy sheets in NCR Pads?

Not for a change of mind. Choose the artwork choice that points to a file already in the basket, and no second design fee is charged. Before delivery, these books cost from £41.37.

Who looks after me once I have bought NCR Pads?

You deal with FatPrint the whole way through. Once you order, somebody checks the artwork, NCR Pads are printed specially for your order, and a courier delivers them with a tracking link by email. Need to ask something along the way? Use the question box here or the Contact page and a real person answers.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Every order gets a confirmation email listing what was bought, the options chosen and the amount paid, and a club, school or small firm can file that as its record of payment. What you pay for these books is the price shown on the page plus any delivery charge, nothing more. If your accounts need a particular kind of invoice, ask through the Contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can provide. Before delivery, these books cost from £41.37.

Our club needs a big batch of books, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. For reference, these books measure A4 (210 × 297 mm).

Can a volunteer order without setting up an account?

Yes. There is a guest checkout, so a one-off order does not need a login. Payment is by debit or credit card, processed by Stripe. The confirmation email that follows lists everything bought and what was paid, which helps when you claim the money back from the group. What the page shows is what the group pays, plus any delivery. Before delivery, these books cost from £41.37.

I have never ordered printing before. Do I need to know the technical words?

No. A person on our team checks every file for size, bleed and resolution and tells you in plain words if anything needs changing. The free online designer also warns you about small text and blurry images before you finish. Or pick typesetting for £15 and we lay out your words and logo for you, with a first draft and two rounds of changes. If you have no file, you can build the design for these books in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these books?

Yes. The online designer is free to use: start from a ready-made layout, swap in your wording and see exactly what will print. If you would rather hand it over, typesetting costs £15: send the words and a logo, and we set them out neatly, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Either way, get someone else to read the names, dates and numbers before it goes to print. If you have no file, you can build the design for these books in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Make the artwork for these books the same size as the one you order, such as A4 (210 × 297 mm).
