Overview

RCD test label printing at FatPrint, in short: you finish a board change, test everything and hand over the certificate. The customer will probably never read the certificate again. They will open the consumer unit door, though, and that is where this label does its job.

The reader is not the electrician

An RCD test label speaks to the homeowner, tenant or office manager. It tells them the circuits are RCD protected and to test them regularly by pressing the button marked T or Test. Your name and phone number are right there, so when a button trips and will not reset, they know who to ring.

Printed wording and write-on lines

The heading reads "RCD Protected", followed by "Test regularly by pressing the button marked T or Test". Write-on lines cover "Installed" and "Last tested". A strip at the bottom holds your company name, phone number and scheme or registration number, printed as plain text, never a scheme logo. You can add a logo, pre-print fixed details or change the wording. BS 7671 includes a notice of this kind where RCDs are fitted, so check the wording the edition you work to asks for before you order.

RCD test label printing: material, size and packs

  • Matt paper takes a ballpoint or permanent pen for the dates.
  • Gloss paper for strong colour on indoor boards.
  • Waterproof white polypropylene with a matt laminate for garages, outbuildings and boards handled a lot; write with a permanent marker.

Choose 76 × 51 mm or the longer 96 × 45 mm, whichever fits beside the RCDs or inside the door. Paper packs go from 48 to 5,040 labels; polypropylene starts at 500. Labels come on sheets, kiss cut and ready to peel, with a permanent adhesive. Other sizes can be quoted.

Artwork and delivery

To set up your RCD test label printing, use the free online designer, upload a file, or use our paid artwork service. Every uploaded file is checked by a person for free. Ready to dispatch in 3 working days on Express, 5 on Standard, 7 on Saver. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery. Browse trade and compliance labels for the rest of the set, or all stickers and labels.

Workplace electrical inspection and testing is covered by the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. On a commercial board, this label shows the dates at a glance; your test records remain the real record.

Questions

Quick answers about rcd test label printing.

What goes on each RCD test label?

A "RCD Protected" heading, spaces to fill in for "Installed" and "Last tested", and your company name and phone number and your scheme or registration number as plain text. In the online designer you can change the wording or add a logo, and you see exactly what is printed.

Can I write on a RCD test label with a pen?

Yes, if you order your RCD test label on the right stock. Matt paper takes a ballpoint or a permanent pen. The waterproof polypropylene has a matt laminate, so use a permanent marker on it. Gloss paper is meant for labels that are printed in full with nothing to fill in.

Which RCD test label stock copes with rain or damp?

Waterproof polypropylene. It shrugs off water and handling, so it is right for outdoor units, lofts, meter boxes, vans and plant rooms. The paper labels are for dry, indoor spots only.

Will you add the logo of the scheme I am registered with?

We cannot: those logos are licensed to members only. What we can print on your RCD test label is your registration number as plain text, plus your own business logo.

What is the minimum order for these labels?

Paper from 48 labels and polypropylene from 500. Price per label falls as packs get larger, and you can see the cost each for every pack below the price. Need a size that is not listed? Use the Get a quote page.

The regulations have been updated. Can the label wording follow the latest BS 7671?

It can. Paste the exact text into the extra wording box, or attach it as a file, and we lay it out on the label. You will see how it looks in the designer before ordering.

How long until my RCD test label order ships?

Pick Saver (7 working days), Standard (5 working days) or Express (3 working days); that is the time before it leaves us. Mainland UK delivery adds £7.95 to the basket, and nothing once the goods reach £100 after any discount code. Highlands mainland addresses add £10; Northern Ireland and the islands are quoted first.

Asked by buyers

How much will RCD Test Labels set me back?

£26.55 is where RCD Test Labels start, set up as 96 × 45 mm and gloss paper (indoor) on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

What wording comes already printed on these labels, and what do I write in myself?

You fill in two things by hand: installed plus last tested. Everything else is printed for you, starting with the "RCD PROTECTED" heading, then your company name, phone number and, as text only, any registration number. Want your logo on too? Add it in the online designer before you finish the layout. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.55.

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £26.55 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.

If I buy RCD Test Labels today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for RCD Test Labels are Express 3 working days, Standard 5 and Saver 7, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: we put your details on the ready label layout (no charge), send your own finished file (no charge), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

Could I lay out these labels myself on your website?

Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 96 × 45 mm.

Will paper do for these labels, or do they need something that copes with damp?

Anywhere damp, outdoors or knocked about: pick the waterproof polypropylene and write on it with a permanent marker. Somewhere dry indoors where you will write details on each one: matt paper is the easiest to write on. Nothing to write and staying indoors: gloss paper does the job for less. Swap between the three materials on this page and the total updates as you go. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor). For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

What are the measurements of RCD Test Labels?

It measures 96 × 45 mm and costs from £26.55. If that is not quite right for your space, the PAT Test Pass Labels or the PAT Test Fail Labels may fit better. Spend £100 on goods and mainland delivery is free; below that it is £7.95. Other settings on the page, such as quantity, adjust the total as you go.

Biro or marker: what writes best on these labels?

That comes down to the material. Matt paper is happy with an everyday biro or a thin permanent pen. The waterproof polypropylene has a laminate on top where biro ink just sits and smears, so keep a permanent marker for that one. If the spot is fiddly to reach, write the installed and the rest while the label is still on its backing sheet. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor).

I belong to a registration scheme. Will you put its badge on my labels?

We cannot, because those badges belong to the scheme and only its members may use them, under its own rules. What we can print is your membership or registration number in plain text, next to your own business logo if you have one. Where your scheme hands out official badge labels or sets rules for showing membership, go by what it says. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor). Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

Is there a minimum quantity for these labels?

The smallest order is 48 and the largest listed is 10000; the list starts 48, 280, 480, 500, 520 and 1000 and carries on from there. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

What form do RCD Test Labels take when they arrive?

In short, the supplied line for RCD Test Labels reads: On sheets, kiss cut, ready to peel. Anything unusual in mind? Send the details through our quote form and someone will reply. The Specifications tab lists every other detail. Your basket keeps each line separate, so different sizes and quantities can sit in one order.

Do these labels come on a roll or on sheets, and how many are in a pack?

Paper packs go from 48 up to 5,040 labels, and the waterproof polypropylene version begins at 500. They arrive kiss cut on backing sheets, so each label lifts off on its own. The glue is permanent. Each pack size has its own per-label figure in the price table, which makes comparing two sizes quick. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.55.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these labels?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 3 working days to get RCD Test Labels out, against 7 on Saver, and costs £30.75 on the opening option rather than £26.55. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will RCD Test Labels cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these labels leave us after 7 working days; Express brings that down to 3. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.55.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. Nothing is printed until a file passes that check, and you can send a corrected one. If you have no file, you can build the design for these labels in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?

Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

What information can go on RCD Test Labels?

In short, the printed details line for RCD Test Labels reads: optional logo, scheme or registration number (as text), phone, company name, write-on lines and label wording. Anything unusual in mind? Send the details through our quote form and someone will reply. The Specifications tab lists every other detail.

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. If you have no file, you can build the design for these labels in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these labels in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these labels?

Roughly 1,134 pixels across and 531 down for a 96 × 45 mm design, which is 300 dpi. Things read at arm's length need that 300 dpi at full size to stay crisp. Text and logos are safest as vector art, which never goes fuzzy. Pictures saved from a website or social media are nearly always too small, and our file check will point out any that could print blurred.

Once I finish designing these labels online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 96 × 45 mm.

Which material would you suggest for RCD Test Labels?

The material option has 3 settings: waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or gloss paper (indoor). It is what your design gets printed onto. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor). Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

How well does the glue on RCD Test Labels hold?

Straight from the details for RCD Test Labels: Permanent. The rest of the spec sits in the Specifications tab further down the page. Want it done another way? Describe it in the question box or on our quote form, and a person will let you know if it can be done.

Could RCD Test Labels be made in a size that is not listed?

Straight from the details for RCD Test Labels: Other sizes on request (ask for a quote). The rest of the spec sits in the Specifications tab further down the page. Want it done another way? Describe it in the question box or on our quote form, and a person will let you know if it can be done.

Is it worth buying printed labels rather than writing on plain ones?

Usually, yes. Your firm's name, contact details and registration number come already printed on each one, so months later a tenant, client or inspector can see whose work it was and get in touch. Every label matches, and the lines left for handwriting remind you what to fill in on the day. You can begin with one of the smaller packs to try them out. You will also find these labels in our Landlords & Letting Agents and Electricians sections. For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

Do landlords and letting agents buy RCD Test Labels from you?

Yes: RCD Test Labels sit in our Landlords & Letting Agents section, next to other things landlords and letting agents buy for lets, rental homes and shared buildings. Prices begin at £26.55. The size is 96 × 45 mm. The material choices are waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or gloss paper (indoor). Also in that section: A0 Correx Boards and Periodic Inspection Labels (EICR). One basket can hold the lot, and delivery is free once the goods reach £100.

I work with electricians. Are these labels something we could use?

For rewires, testing and inspections, look under Electricians in the shop: RCD Test Labels are listed there. Prices begin at £26.55; the size is 96 × 45 mm; the material choices are waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or gloss paper (indoor). People buying for that kind of work often add Vehicle Magnets or Danger 400 Volts Sign. Put everything in one order and delivery is free at £100 or more.

What is the best spot for these labels, and how do I make them stay?

Choose a place that is clean, dry and easy to spot, either on the item itself or right beside it. Give the surface a wipe to shift dust or grease, then smooth the label down from its centre towards the edges. The glue is permanent and not made for moving, so settle on the spot before you peel. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor). For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

Where do RCD Test Labels and PAT Test Fail Labels differ?

Comparing RCD Test Labels with PAT Test Fail Labels, this is what changes. Sizes: only 96 × 45 mm on this page, and 2 on the other, the smallest 51 × 25 mm. Opening price: £26.55 on this page and £26.31 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Should I get RCD Test Labels, or would PAT Test Pass Labels suit me better?

Set RCD Test Labels beside PAT Test Pass Labels and a few things differ. Sizes: only 96 × 45 mm on this page, and 2 on the other, the smallest 51 × 25 mm. Opening price: £26.55 on this page and £26.31 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Can I swap my file once I have paid?

It depends on timing. Until production begins, a new file can replace the old one, or the order can be cancelled with a full refund; once it has begun, nothing can be changed. Message us straight away on the Contact page with your order number. Items printed exactly as supplied or designed do not count as faulty, so check names, numbers and dates first. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

I am not sure which options to pick for these labels. Can someone advise me?

Of course. Tell us three things: where these labels will go, whether it is for one day or for years, and your deadline. Send that through the question box on this page or the Contact page, and a member of the team will suggest options. If what you need is outside the options listed, the Get a quote page lets you describe it and get a price. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.55.

Our club needs a big batch of labels, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

Which cards do you take, and is paying online safe?

You pay by debit or credit card when you check out, and you can do it as a guest without making an account. Card details are handled by Stripe, a specialist payment company, so the full card number never reaches us or sits on our system. Printing starts after payment goes through and your file has been checked. If your group needs a price agreed before anyone pays, ask for a quote instead. For reference, these labels measure 96 × 45 mm.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Look everything over when it arrives. If something is damaged or missing, contact us within 48 hours through the contact form, with your order number and photos of both the item and the packaging. Please keep hold of it until we reply; we then sort out a reprint or a refund. Your legal rights stay the same, as the returns page sets out. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.55.

I have never ordered printing before. Do I need to know the technical words?

No. A person on our team checks every file for size, bleed and resolution and tells you in plain words if anything needs changing. The free online designer also warns you about small text and blurry images before you finish. Easier still, choose the free Artwork option for adding your details and we fill in the ready-made layout for you. Type your question into the box on this page and a person replies. If you have no file, you can build the design for these labels in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 96 × 45 mm.
