Overview

A backdrop has one job: get noticed. Step and repeat banner printing here is full colour, edge to edge, made to order.

Materials for step and repeat banner printing

It comes on 440gsm PVC, the standard tough banner vinyl or 400gsm PVC-free, for venues and buyers who want to avoid PVC.

Where it works

Right for press walls, red carpets, sponsor boards and award nights. Bands and theatre groups hang them at the back of the stage so every photo carries the name. Businesses use them at launches and awards nights so every photo has the logo in it.

Getting the size right

Step and repeat banner printing comes like this: any width and height you like within 0.5m and 6m wide and 0.5m to 3m high, or pick from the common sizes. Measure the stage or the wall, then think about what the camera sees. For photos of people standing, 2 metres high is a comfortable minimum.

Pull it tight on the frame: creases show up in photos far more than they do to the eye.

Artwork and timing

Got artwork? Upload it. No artwork? Use the online designer, or our paid artwork service (1 design, 2 rounds of changes). Either way a person looks over the file first, free. Standard production is 3 working days from when your order and artwork are confirmed. Express gets it done from 1 working day. Saver takes 5 and is there if you are not in a rush. Every step and repeat banner printing order is printed to order and sent straight to you from the UK.

Put up outdoors, a banner, board or flag counts as an advertisement under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007. Most small ones need no application, but the council can tell you if yours does.

Postage is £7.95 to the UK mainland and free over £100, worked out after discounts and not counting artwork fees. Mainland Highlands postcodes add £10; Northern Ireland, the islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. The sizes over 3 m on any side go by specialist courier, which adds £15 once per order. Full details are on the delivery page.

Questions

Quick answers about step and repeat banner printing.

I keep seeing logo walls at awards nights. How does this kind of banner work?

Picture a large backdrop covered in a grid of the same logos over and over. It normally hangs from a frame with guests standing in front, and whichever part of the banner ends up in the photo, the brand is still in shot.

How big should our step and repeat banner be for a club awards night?

For a photo wall where two or three people pose, 8 ft × 8 ft (2438 × 2438 mm) does the job. A stage or a wider spot needs 10 ft × 8 ft (3048 × 2438 mm). Measure your frame, wall or stage first, and if it is an odd size, put your own dimensions in.

Is it possible to add a photo and a name to my step and repeat banner order?

It is. Send your own finished file, or choose design help and send the names, dates and pictures you want. Use the sharpest, highest resolution photos you have, because a backdrop is big; the person checking your file will tell you if one may print blurry.

How big do these come?

Choose 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm), 8 ft × 8 ft (2438 × 2438 mm), 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 10 ft × 8 ft (3048 × 2438 mm) or 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm). A custom width and height is possible too. Measure your space first so your step and repeat banner fits. Prices start at £108.80 and change with the size you pick.

Which material is used for the step and repeat banners?

Full colour print on 400gsm PVC-free banner or 440gsm PVC banner. Prices start at £108.80. For another material, send a request from the Get a quote page.

How fast can I have my step and repeat banner order?

Pick Saver (5 working days), Standard (3 working days) or Express (1 working day); that is the time before it leaves us. Courier delivery follows in 1 to 3 working days. Goods worth £100 or more travel free to a UK mainland address; below that, delivery is a flat £7.95 for the whole order. Sizes over 3 m on a side, such as 3m x 2.4m (10ft x 8ft) and 4m x 2.5m, go by specialist courier for £15 added once to the order.

Is anything added to the price of my step and repeat banner order at checkout?

Only delivery, where it applies. The figure on the page is the one you pay at checkout. The £108.80 starting price for your step and repeat banner order is the full price of the goods.

Will someone look at my file before the step and repeat banner is printed?

Yes. A person checks every file you upload before printing starts, looking at resolution, bleed and whether the text will come out cleanly. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Asked by buyers

How much will Step and Repeat Banners set me back?

£108.80 is where Step and Repeat Banners start, set up as 2000 × 2000 mm and 400gsm PVC-free banner on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. At £108.80 the opening price is already over £100, so mainland delivery costs nothing. Pick one of the biggest sizes and a one-off £15 oversize charge applies. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man. The biggest sizes of these backdrops go by specialist courier, which adds £15 once to the order.

Do the biggest sizes of Step and Repeat Banners cost more to deliver?

Only the biggest. For Step and Repeat Banners that means 3m x 2.4m (10ft x 8ft) and 4m x 2.5m. Very big items (a banner longer than 3 m on any side, or a board bigger than A0) go with a specialist courier, which adds £15 once to the whole order, however many big items are in it. Everything smaller is sent at the ordinary rate. Send it to a UK mainland address for a flat £7.95, or for free when the goods in the basket add up to £100 or more after discounts; artwork and design charges do not count towards that.

If I buy Step and Repeat Banners today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for Step and Repeat Banners are Express 1 working day, Standard 3 and Saver 5, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. Material choices for Step and Repeat Banners: 400gsm PVC-free banner or 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets.

Which size of Step and Repeat Banners gets noticed from across the street?

Grab a tape measure and stand where your visitors will stand. If they are walking past a few metres away, a modest size does the job; if they are across a car park or a road, go bigger. Choices here go from 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm) at the small end to 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm) at the big end. A size of your own can be keyed in as well. On this page, Step and Repeat Banners start from £108.80.

Which is the smallest and which the biggest backdrop I can order here?

Smallest: 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm), from £108.80. Biggest: 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm), from £248.75. 3 more are listed in between, each priced on the cheapest options. Any other width and height inside the limits on the page can be typed in too. Not sure which? Mark the space out with tape or string first and stand back to look. Sizes for these backdrops go from 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm) at the small end to 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm), 5 in all.

Will these backdrops survive being left outside?

Rain is not a problem. The 440gsm PVC used here is a solid vinyl that water runs straight off, and it is meant for outdoor jobs such as shop fronts, club railings, walls and fetes. Sun, wind and the way it is tied up decide how many months it looks good. A hem round the edge, metal eyelets rather than plastic, and every hole tied all make a real difference. Where it faces a strong wind on open fencing or scaffolding, mesh copes better because the air goes through. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Is there a knack to tying up these backdrops?

Corners go first, which keeps it level, then the rest of the eyelets along the top and bottom edges. Pull each fixing just firm enough to take up the slack without stretching the backdrop. Cable ties, bungees and rope all work; bungees have a bit of stretch, useful for solid PVC on a windy railing. Check it again after the first gusty day and replace anything that has snapped. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Do I get a frame with these backdrops, or just the print?

Just the print. Choose the PVC version and it arrives hemmed with eyelets, ready to tie onto poles, a truss, a wall or a frame you already have. Measure what you are hanging it on and pick the matching size, or type in the exact measurements you need. If you want something that stands up on its own, our pop-up stands and fabric displays are worth a look. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

I need several backdrops, some in different sizes. How do I buy them?

Set up the first size, type how many you need next to Add to basket, then go back and set up the next size as another line. Every price you see is for one backdrop, and the quantity box does the multiplying. Paying for artwork? It is charged once per line, not per item, and the option to reuse artwork from another basket item adds no second fee. For big numbers, ask on our Get a quote page. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

How much for the biggest size, 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm)?

From £248.75, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. That clears the £100 mark on its own, so UK mainland delivery costs nothing. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Can a private person buy a single backdrop?

Yes. One is enough, and you do not need a business name or an account to check out. The opening price is £108.80, and any bank card will do. At £108.80 the opening price is already over £100, so mainland delivery costs nothing. A person still checks your file before it is printed, just as for a big order. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you.

How much does a 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm) backdrop cost?

From £155.45, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. That clears the £100 mark on its own, so UK mainland delivery costs nothing. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these backdrops?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 1 working day to get Step and Repeat Banners out, against 5 on Saver, and costs £144.99 on the opening option rather than £108.80. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Step and Repeat Banners cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these backdrops leave us after 5 working days; Express brings that down to 1. The biggest sizes of these backdrops go by specialist courier, which adds £15 once to the order.

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. If you have no file, you can build the design for these backdrops in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Material choices for Step and Repeat Banners: 400gsm PVC-free banner or 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these backdrops?

Roughly 15,748 pixels across and 9,843 down for a 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm) design, which is 100 dpi. That is plenty for something people read from a few metres away; anywhere from 100 to 150 dpi at full size will do. Text and logos are safest as vector art, which never goes fuzzy. Pictures saved from a website or social media are nearly always too small, and our file check will point out any that could print blurred. Make the artwork for these backdrops the same size as the one you order, such as 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm).

Once I finish designing these backdrops online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Make the artwork for these backdrops the same size as the one you order, such as 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm). Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Is PVC-free banner material any good, and when should I use it?

PVC-free is a 400gsm material with no PVC in it at all. It prints in the same full colour and is well suited to indoor displays, shops, exhibitions and short-term jobs. If it is going outside for a long time, or somewhere with a lot of wind, the 440gsm PVC or mesh stands up better. Both are priced on the page, so you can check the same size in each material before you decide. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80. On its opening option, Step and Repeat Banners leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Will camera flash bounce off the backdrop?

Flash and strong lights can glint off any smooth print. Keep pale, shiny areas away from the spot behind people's heads, and aim the lights in from an angle, not head-on. Busy or darker designs hide glare better than big plain light areas. Pull it tight when you hang it: creases and ripples stand out far more in pictures than in real life. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80. On its opening option, Step and Repeat Banners leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Can these backdrops be made to my own measurements?

Yes. Any width between 500 and 6000 mm and any height between 500 and 3000 mm can be entered, and the total changes as you type. For something larger, or a shaped banner, ask us for a price. Sizes for these backdrops go from 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm) at the small end to 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm), 5 in all. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you.

Would these backdrops look right inside a hall or a shop?

Yes. PVC hangs flat and the print comes out crisp, so it suits school halls, church halls, receptions, stage fronts and indoor events. There is also a 400gsm PVC-free material on this product, a good pick for inside if you would rather avoid PVC. Inside you can skip the ties altogether. Hang it by the eyelets from hooks or a length of cord, or use hanging strips that peel off cleanly. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you.

We have a school fair coming up. Would these backdrops be suitable?

They make a good stage or photo background, hung on a frame, poles or a wall. Outdoors, look at the fixings again if it turns windy. Order with enough time for the making and the courier before the event. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Sizes for these backdrops go from 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm) at the small end to 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm), 5 in all.

How should I keep these backdrops between uses?

Make sure it is bone dry and clean, then roll it up loosely with the print on the outside, round a cardboard tube if one is handy. Try not to fold it, because sharp folds leave creases and the ink can crack along them. Snip off old cable ties before rolling so they do not press marks into the print, and store the roll in a dry cupboard well clear of radiators. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80. On its opening option, Step and Repeat Banners leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Every order gets a confirmation email listing what was bought, the options chosen and the amount paid, and a club, school or small firm can file that as its record of payment. What you pay for these backdrops is the price shown on the page plus any delivery charge, nothing more. If your accounts need a particular kind of invoice, ask through the Contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can provide. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Can a volunteer order without setting up an account?

Yes. There is a guest checkout, so a one-off order does not need a login. Payment is by debit or credit card, processed by Stripe. The confirmation email that follows lists everything bought and what was paid, which helps when you claim the money back from the group. What the page shows is what the group pays, plus any delivery. Before delivery, these backdrops cost from £108.80.

Our club needs a big batch of backdrops, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you.

We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?

One checkout covers the lot. Add a basket line for every design, attach the right file to each, then pay once. You pay a single delivery charge of £7.95 for the whole order, or nothing if the goods add up to £100 or more. Repeating one design on another line? Choose the artwork choice that points to a file already in the basket, and no second design fee is charged. Sizes for these backdrops go from 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm) at the small end to 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm), 5 in all.

Can I send these backdrops back if I no longer need them?

Not for a change of mind. These backdrops are made for your order, and goods made to your specification fall outside the 14-day cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). You can still cancel and get all your money back before production begins. Anything faulty, damaged or wrong is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we reprint it or refund you. Sizes for these backdrops go from 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm) at the small end to 13 ft 1 in × 8 ft 2 in (4000 × 2500 mm), 5 in all.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you.

Which cards do you take, and is paying online safe?

You pay by debit or credit card when you check out, and you can do it as a guest without making an account. Card details are handled by Stripe, a specialist payment company, so the full card number never reaches us or sits on our system. Printing starts after payment goes through and your file has been checked. If your group needs a price agreed before anyone pays, ask for a quote instead. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Look everything over when it arrives. If something is damaged or missing, contact us within 48 hours through the contact form, with your order number and photos of both the item and the packaging. Please keep hold of it until we reply; we then sort out a reprint or a refund. Your legal rights stay the same, as the returns page sets out. The biggest sizes of these backdrops go by specialist courier, which adds £15 once to the order. Choose Saver and these backdrops leave us after 5 working days; Express brings that down to 1.

We have several sponsors for our charity event. Can their logos all go on these backdrops?

Yes. Line the logos up along the bottom or in a row, keep them all a similar size so nobody feels left out, and hold them 50 mm in from the edges. Short of time? Our typesetting service (£15) or a design worked up from your notes (£35) can put it together for you, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. If a sponsor only has a blurry logo, we can rebuild it for £30. Make the artwork for these backdrops the same size as the one you order, such as 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm). On its opening option, Step and Repeat Banners leaves us after 5 working days on Saver.

Will my logo colours come out the same as on screen?

Very close, but not always identical. A screen glows, print reflects light, so a small difference is normal. Sending CMYK artwork keeps it nearest; RGB is changed to CMYK before printing and the brightest greens, blues and oranges can look a touch flatter. For an exact brand colour, give us the Pantone reference and we get as close as the material allows. If you have no file, you can build the design for these backdrops in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

I have never ordered printing before. Do I need to know the technical words?

No. A person on our team checks every file for size, bleed and resolution and tells you in plain words if anything needs changing. The free online designer also warns you about small text and blurry images before you finish. Or pick typesetting for £15 and we lay out your words and logo for you, with a first draft and two rounds of changes. Make the artwork for these backdrops the same size as the one you order, such as 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm).

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Make the artwork for these backdrops the same size as the one you order, such as 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm). Nothing is printed ahead of time: each backdrop is made to order for you.

Can I design these backdrops first and show the committee before we pay?

Yes. The online designer is free to use, so you can build the design, look at it on screen and share it round before anyone commits. The preview carries a watermark on screen only; it never appears on the printed item. When everyone is happy, finish the design and order. What you see is what gets printed, so check names, dates and numbers together first. Make the artwork for these backdrops the same size as the one you order, such as 6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in (2000 × 2000 mm).

It has got muddy. How can I clean these backdrops?

A bowl of warm water with a drop of gentle washing-up liquid and a soft sponge or cloth is all you need. Rinse with clean water afterwards and let it dry, hanging up or laid flat. Keep away from solvents, scouring pads and pressure washers, as they can strip the ink or scuff the surface. Only roll it up once it is completely dry, otherwise it may mark or start to smell. For these backdrops, the material can be 440gsm PVC banner, hemmed, eyelets; or 400gsm PVC-free banner.
