Overview

Without swing tag printing, a plain product on a craft-fair table looks like a hobby. The same product with a printed tag looks like a brand. The tag is where the shopper reads your name, the price and how to wash it, and it is what they keep when they cut it off at home.

Choose the card first

  • Premium matt card. Smooth, no shine, sharp print. Suits clothing labels and modern homeware.
  • Kraft card. Natural brown with a handmade look. A favourite for candles, soap, preserves and anything eco.
  • Linen card. A fine woven texture you can feel. Works for jewellery, knitwear and gift sets.

Swing tag printing sizes and shapes

Four sizes: 50 × 50 mm and 65 × 65 mm squares, and two taller tags at 50 × 75 mm and 50 × 90 mm. Squares suit a logo alone. The taller ones leave room for a price, a size and a line of care advice.

Shapes are square corners, rounded corners, cut corners or a full circle. Rounded corners feel soft and friendly; cut corners have a vintage luggage-label look; a circle stands out on a jar lid.

Print the front only, or both sides with care details, a barcode or a thank-you on the back.

Stringing them up

Every tag has a hole ready for threading. String and ribbon are not included, so pick your own: jute twine with kraft card, a satin ribbon with linen. Keep text away from the hole when you design.

Quantities, artwork and delivery

Order 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 or 1,000. A stallholder testing a new range might start with 100. Upload a print-ready PDF with 3 mm bleed and text 3 mm inside the trim, or use our paid artwork service with 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A person checks every uploaded file for free; the artwork guidelines explain bleed.

Every run of swing tag printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK: Express from 6 working days, Standard from 8 and Saver from 10, once your order and artwork are confirmed. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery. Foiled tags and tent cards are in door hangers, tent cards and swing tags.

Questions

Quick answers about swing tag printing.

What is the turnaround on my swing tag order?

Pick Saver (10 working days), Standard (8 working days) or Express (6 working days); that is the time before it leaves us. The clock starts once your order is placed and the file is confirmed. Mainland UK delivery adds £7.95 to the basket, and nothing once the goods reach £100 after any discount code. Highlands mainland addresses add £10; Northern Ireland and the islands are quoted first.

What file do you need for my swing tags?

A PDF ready to print at the finished tag size, with 3 mm of bleed around the edge, and text kept 3 mm or more from the cut line and clear of the hole. Typesetting, design and logo redraw can be added for a fee.

Does a person look at my swing tag artwork?

Yes. Before your swing tag goes to print, someone checks resolution, size and bleed. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Do swing tags come with string attached?

No, you supply that part. Each tag comes with a punched hole, so thread through whatever suits your products, from twine and ribbon to plastic tag fasteners.

I sell handmade clothes. Which swing tag size works best?

For clothing, the two longer tags work best, as there is room for your logo plus the price and size. The square tags, at 50 and 65 mm, suit gifts and small items where the logo does the talking.

Which card should I pick for swing tags?

Premium matt is smooth and shine-free, good for clean modern designs. Kraft gives a natural brown look. Linen shows a delicate crosshatch pattern and feels a bit more special.

Can the back of the tag carry prices or care details?

Yes, choose Both sides. The back can then show prices, sizes, washing instructions or a short line about your brand.

Asked by buyers

How much will Swing Tags set me back?

£33.35 is where Swing Tags start, set up as 50 × 50 mm, Rounded corners and premium matt card on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £33.35 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.

If I buy Swing Tags today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for Swing Tags are Express 6 working days, Standard 8 and Saver 10, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. For reference, Swing Tags are listed in 3 sizes, the smallest being 50 × 50 mm.

Could I lay out these items myself on your website?

Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Make the artwork for these items the same size as the one you order, such as 50 × 50 mm.

Which is the smallest and which the biggest item I can order here?

Smallest: 50 × 50 mm, from £33.35. Biggest: 50 × 90 mm, from £38.06. One more is listed in between, and every figure is for the cheapest options. Not sure which? Mark the space out with tape or string first and stand back to look.

How much for the biggest size, 50 × 90 mm?

From £38.06 for 25, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Sizes for these items go from 50 × 50 mm at the small end to 50 × 90 mm, 3 in all.

How much does a 65 × 65 mm item cost?

From £36.77 for 25, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Before delivery, these items cost from £33.35.

Is there a minimum quantity for these items?

The smallest order is 25 and the largest listed is 1000; the list starts 25, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. Before delivery, these items cost from £33.35.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

The only thing that can join the goods price is delivery; the price you see is the price you pay at checkout. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted). If you pick a paid design option, it sits in the basket as a separate line with its own fee, so every penny is listed before you pay. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each item is made to order for you.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these items?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 6 working days to get Swing Tags out, against 10 on Saver, and costs £38.61 on the opening option rather than £33.35. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Swing Tags cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these items leave us after 10 working days; Express brings that down to 6.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. If fixing it sounds like a chore, choose typesetting for £15: we lay out your text and logo, show you a first draft, then make up to two rounds of changes. Sizes for these items go from 50 × 50 mm at the small end to 50 × 90 mm, 3 in all.

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. If you have no file, you can build the design for these items in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?

Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. Make the artwork for these items the same size as the one you order, such as 50 × 50 mm.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these items in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these items?

Roughly 591 pixels across and 1,063 down for a 50 × 90 mm design, which is 300 dpi. Things read at arm's length need that 300 dpi at full size to stay crisp. Text and logos are safest as vector art, which never goes fuzzy. Pictures saved from a website or social media are nearly always too small, and our file check will point out any that could print blurred.

Once I finish designing these items online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Make the artwork for these items the same size as the one you order, such as 50 × 50 mm.

Printed on Swing Tags: how do the choices differ?

It sets which sides of the item get printed. For Swing Tags the list runs both sides or front only. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Does the card option I choose make a difference to Swing Tags?

Card thickness is shown as gsm, the weight in grams of one square metre, and more gsm means a sturdier card. Coated silk card gives crisp print; recycled, textured or uncoated cards have a softer, more natural feel and are nicer to write on. For Swing Tags the list runs linen card, Kraft card or premium matt card. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Which shape would you suggest for Swing Tags?

The shape option has 4 settings: circle, cut corners, Rounded corners or square corners. Pick the outline you want it cut to. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. Sizes for these items go from 50 × 50 mm at the small end to 50 × 90 mm, 3 in all.

How would I decide between Door Hangers and Swing Tags?

Comparing Swing Tags with Door Hangers, this is what changes. Material: Linen card, Kraft card or Premium matt card on this page, against 350gsm gloss card or 350gsm silk card on the other. Opening price: £33.35 on this page and £46.83 on the other. On the Standard service it is 8 working days on this page and 5 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Where do Swing Tags and Foiled Swing Tags differ?

Set Swing Tags beside Foiled Swing Tags and a few things differ. Sizes: 3 on this page, the smallest 50 × 50 mm, and 2 on the other, the smallest 55 × 55 mm. Opening price: £33.35 on this page and £54.08 on the other. On the Standard service it is 8 working days on this page and 6 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Should I get Swing Tags, or would Tent Cards suit me better?

Comparing Swing Tags with Tent Cards, this is what changes. Sizes: 3 on this page, the smallest 50 × 50 mm, and 2 on the other, the smallest DL triangle (3 sides). Opening price: £33.35 on this page and £10.35 on the other. On the Standard service it is 8 working days on this page and 7 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Who looks after me once I have bought Swing Tags?

You deal with FatPrint the whole way through. Once you order, somebody checks the artwork, Swing Tags are printed specially for your order, and a courier delivers them with a tracking link by email. Need to ask something along the way? Use the question box here or the Contact page and a real person answers.

Our club needs a big batch of items, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each item is made to order for you.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Every order gets a confirmation email listing what was bought, the options chosen and the amount paid, and a club, school or small firm can file that as its record of payment. What you pay for these items is the price shown on the page plus any delivery charge, nothing more. If your accounts need a particular kind of invoice, ask through the Contact page before you order and we will tell you what we can provide. Before delivery, these items cost from £33.35.

We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?

One checkout covers the lot. Add a basket line for every design, attach the right file to each, then pay once. You pay a single delivery charge of £7.95 for the whole order, or nothing if the goods add up to £100 or more. Repeating one design on another line? Choose the artwork choice that points to a file already in the basket, and no second design fee is charged. Sizes for these items go from 50 × 50 mm at the small end to 50 × 90 mm, 3 in all.

Can I swap my file once I have paid?

It depends on timing. Until production begins, a new file can replace the old one, or the order can be cancelled with a full refund; once it has begun, nothing can be changed. Message us straight away on the Contact page with your order number. Items printed exactly as supplied or designed do not count as faulty, so check names, numbers and dates first. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each item is made to order for you.

Which cards do you take, and is paying online safe?

You pay by debit or credit card when you check out, and you can do it as a guest without making an account. Card details are handled by Stripe, a specialist payment company, so the full card number never reaches us or sits on our system. Printing starts after payment goes through and your file has been checked. If your group needs a price agreed before anyone pays, ask for a quote instead. Before delivery, these items cost from £33.35.

I am not sure which options to pick for these items. Can someone advise me?

Of course. Tell us three things: where these items will go, whether it is for one day or for years, and your deadline. Send that through the question box on this page or the Contact page, and a member of the team will suggest options. If what you need is outside the options listed, the Get a quote page lets you describe it and get a price. Before delivery, these items cost from £33.35.

Will my logo colours come out the same as on screen?

Very close, but not always identical. A screen glows, print reflects light, so a small difference is normal. Sending CMYK artwork keeps it nearest; RGB is changed to CMYK before printing and the brightest greens, blues and oranges can look a touch flatter. For an exact brand colour, give us the Pantone reference and we get as close as the material allows. If you have no file, you can build the design for these items in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

I have never ordered printing before. Do I need to know the technical words?

No. A person on our team checks every file for size, bleed and resolution and tells you in plain words if anything needs changing. The free online designer also warns you about small text and blurry images before you finish. Or pick typesetting for £15 and we lay out your words and logo for you, with a first draft and two rounds of changes. Make the artwork for these items the same size as the one you order, such as 50 × 50 mm.

I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these items?

Yes. The online designer is free to use: start from a ready-made layout, swap in your wording and see exactly what will print. If you would rather hand it over, typesetting costs £15: send the words and a logo, and we set them out neatly, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Either way, get someone else to read the names, dates and numbers before it goes to print. Make the artwork for these items the same size as the one you order, such as 50 × 50 mm.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Make the artwork for these items the same size as the one you order, such as 50 × 50 mm.

Can I design these items first and show the committee before we pay?

Yes. The online designer is free to use, so you can build the design, look at it on screen and share it round before anyone commits. The preview carries a watermark on screen only; it never appears on the printed item. When everyone is happy, finish the design and order. What you see is what gets printed, so check names, dates and numbers together first. Make the artwork for these items the same size as the one you order, such as 50 × 50 mm.

Will a pen write cleanly on these items?

Depends on the surface. Uncoated and textured cards are the friendliest for biros and fountain pens. Silk card takes a biro once the ink has dried; gloss and laminated finishes need a permanent pen and may still smear. Planning to write on the back, for example appointment times or a note? Leave that side without lamination. For these items, the material can be Linen card, Kraft card or Premium matt card.

Do colours print softer on uncoated, recycled or textured paper?

Yes. Uncoated, textured and recycled stocks absorb more ink, so the result is softer and more matt than on a coated sheet. That quieter look is often the reason people choose them. For the closest match to set brand colours, a silk or coated option is the better bet. For these items, the material can be Linen card, Kraft card or Premium matt card.

Can these items go in the recycling bin afterwards?

Plain paper and card without lamination go in with ordinary paper recycling, so once the event, offer or year is over they can go in the paper bin at home or work. Lamination, foil and plastic make recycling harder, and rules vary from one council to the next, so check what yours accepts before binning those. For these items, the material can be Linen card, Kraft card or Premium matt card.

How should we keep these items in good condition until we need them?

Flat, dry and dark is the rule. Leave them in their box, away from damp, direct sun and heaters. Damp paper curls and can jam a printer, while sunlight slowly fades the ink. Take a handful at a time and keep the rest boxed. For these items, the material can be Linen card, Kraft card or Premium matt card.
