Overview

Business cards printing at FatPrint, in short: you finish a quote at someone's kitchen table, or chat to a stallholder at a craft fair, and they ask for your number. A card beats scribbling it on a receipt. It goes in a wallet, a van door pocket or a card holder, and it is still there next month.

Thickness: 350gsm or 450gsm

Both cards are silk, which has a smooth surface with a gentle sheen that holds colour well. 350gsm is a good all-round weight: firm, not flimsy. 450gsm is noticeably thicker and stiffer in the hand, the one to pick if you want the card to feel substantial when you pass it over.

Finish: what lamination changes

  • None. The plain silk surface. Pick this if you like to write appointment times or notes on the card, since a laminate makes writing much harder.
  • Matt. Smooth and modern, with no shine.
  • Gloss. Makes colours and photos pop.
  • Soft touch. A velvety feel that people tend to notice.

Any lamination covers both sides and helps cards resist scuffs in pockets and toolboxes.

Business cards printing: one side or two?

Printing is full colour. Front only keeps it simple: name, number, logo. Both sides gives you room for a list of services, opening hours, a web address or a QR code on the back. Packs come in 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 2,500 or 5,000. A market trader might start with 250; a firm handing cards to every customer might go straight to 1,000.

Artwork and delivery

Supply a PDF at 91 × 61 mm, which is the card size plus 3 mm bleed on each edge. No file? Use the free online designer, or our paid artwork service can set your text and logo, design the card from a brief, or redraw a low-resolution logo. A person checks every uploaded file for free, and our artwork guidelines explain bleed.

Business cards printing takes 3 working days to dispatch on Standard, 2 on Express and 5 on Saver, counted from when your order and artwork are confirmed. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery. Other shapes and stocks are in business cards, and the rest of our stationery is one click away.

Questions

Quick answers about business cards printing.

Will my business cards fit a normal wallet or card holder?

Yes. They are 85 x 55 mm, the usual UK size. When you set up the file, make it 91 x 61 mm so there is 3 mm of bleed all round, and keep any wording at least 3 mm in from where the card will be trimmed.

What is the difference between the 350gsm and 450gsm card?

Hold them side by side and 450gsm is clearly thicker and stiffer, with a more luxurious feel. 350gsm silk is still a sturdy card and does the job well for everyday use.

My cards live in a van and a tool bag. Should I pay for lamination?

In that case, yes. Matt, gloss or soft touch lamination guards the print against scuffs and damp, and makes the card nicer to handle. For cards kept in pockets and vans it is money well spent.

I have a logo but no design skills. Can you put a card together for me?

We can. The artwork options include typesetting, where we place your wording and logo on a clean layout for £15, and a full design from your brief for £35. Either way you receive a first draft, then up to two rounds of tweaks, and nothing is printed until you are happy.

I want customers to scan through to my website. Can the card carry a QR code?

It can. Either include the code in your own artwork, or paste the web link into the design brief and we add it for you. Make it no smaller than 20 mm on each side so phone cameras pick it up without fuss.

How long until my business card order ships?

Express gets it out in 2 working days, Standard ships after 3 working days and Saver, the lowest price, after 5 working days. Spend £100 on goods (design fees are not counted) and UK mainland delivery is free; otherwise it is £7.95 once. Northern Ireland and island addresses get a delivery quote first, and the mainland Highlands add £10.

Asked by buyers

How cheaply can I get hold of Business Cards?

Picked the way the page first loads, with 350gsm silk card, front only and none, Business Cards come to £19.23. Any other mix of options, a faster turnaround included, gets its own price the moment you choose it, and that figure is what you pay at checkout. Only delivery is left to add. On its own the opening price of £19.23 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero.

Which turnaround speeds can I choose for Business Cards?

Allow 5 working days on Saver, 3 on Standard or 2 on Express before Business Cards are handed to the courier, based on the options the page opens with. Weekends and bank holidays are not counted, and nothing starts until the order is paid and the artwork is confirmed. Pick another size or material and the days beside each speed update, sometimes by a day. After it leaves us, the courier normally delivers in one to three working days and you get the tracking link by email.

Is delivery extra on top of the price of Business Cards?

Send it to a UK mainland address for a flat £7.95, or for free when the goods in the basket add up to £100 or more after discounts; artwork and design charges do not count towards that. An order of just this at the opening price of £19.23 is under £100, so it pays the £7.95. We price delivery first for Northern Ireland and for the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands, Scilly, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Man; Highland addresses on the mainland just pay £10 extra, one time per order.

Which artwork services are offered with Business Cards?

Several routes, all chosen under Artwork on this page. Send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. The fee is the same whatever quantity you order and shows separately in the basket. There is also a free online designer if you want to build it yourself.

Is the online designer free, and how do I use it?

Pick a starting layout, swap in your own words, logo and pictures, and move things around until it looks right. While you work, the tool flags sample text you forgot to change, small text, items outside the safe area and blurry images, before you can finish. It is free to use and the on-screen watermark does not print. What you see is what we print. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

How big is each finished card, and how should my file be set up?

Trimmed size: 85 × 55 mm (UK standard). Set the PDF up at 91 × 61 mm, which is the card plus 3 mm of bleed on each side. Hold text back at least 3 mm from the cut line so none of it is trimmed away, and stretch any background colour or photo right out into the bleed. Designing online? The designer handles the size and bleed automatically. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Is there a minimum quantity for Business Cards?

Yes. You can start at 100, with 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 as the next steps. Each price is the total for that quantity, so divide it to compare the cost of one item across a few options before deciding. For an amount outside the list, ask for a quote. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

How many Business Cards can I buy at one time?

Anything from 100 to 5000. The quantity choices on the page run 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 2500 and 5000. The figure shown is for the whole batch, not for one, so divide it by the number you picked to see the cost of each. If you need more than 5000, send the size, number and date through our Get a quote page. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

I am never sure how many to print. How many cards is sensible?

Start from how many you will really hand out before your details or offer change. This page goes from 100 up to 5,000, and the price per card usually falls as the number rises, so compare a couple of amounts. For a one-off campaign, a modest first order is a cheap way to test the design. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

No surprises: what the page shows for these cards is the goods figure you pay at checkout. Delivery is the one extra, £7.95 to a UK mainland address, and it drops away when the goods reach £100 after discounts. Paid artwork help shows up as its own basket line, so you can check each amount before paying. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

Do you send to Northern Ireland or the islands?

Yes, anywhere in the UK, though the price differs by area. A Highlands postcode on the mainland pays the usual rate plus a single £10 for the order, and that £10 still applies when the rest of the delivery is free. Northern Ireland gets a price worked out first, as do the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands, Scilly, the Scottish islands and the Isle of Man: send your postcode through our Get a quote page or the Contact page. We cannot send anything outside the UK. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

Our event is close. Can Business Cards be rushed?

Yes. Choose Express and Business Cards can be on the way in 2 working days on the opening option, for £22.26, where Saver is £19.23 and takes 5 days. Then give the courier one to three working days, and send the artwork with the order, because the clock does not run until the file is sorted. If the date is really tight, message us on the Contact page before paying and we will tell you honestly.

Someone else is putting our file together. How does it reach you?

Easiest route: they send the finished file to whoever placed the order, and it gets uploaded after ordering. Up to 3 files of 25 MB each are fine. They can also reach us through the Contact page, as long as they quote your order number so it lands on the right job. Production waits for the checked file, so a late file means a later dispatch date. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Can I send a Word or Canva file for Business Cards?

Word, PowerPoint and Canva are a fair place to start, but export a high quality PDF from them before uploading. Our first choice is always a PDF at the ordered size with fonts embedded or outlined, followed by AI, EPS or SVG, then high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF. You can add three files, each up to 25 MB, on this page, or upload them after ordering from the email we send. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Yes, a real person on our team opens every uploaded file and checks the size, the bleed and the resolution. If something is off, you hear from us before anything is made. Designs made in the online designer are printed exactly as they looked on screen. We print what you send, though, so read the spelling, numbers and dates yourself as well. Making starts when the order and the file are both confirmed. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

That is why a person looks at every upload before anything is printed. Typical snags are a document at the wrong size, missing bleed, blurry photos and words sitting too near the trim. If we spot one, we explain what to change and you send a fresh file. Or hand it over to us: for £15 our typesetting places your wording and logo on a neat layout, with one first draft and two rounds of changes. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Once I finish designing these cards online, is the file mine to keep?

Two ways. Buy the file on its own: finish your design and pay £9.99 for the print-ready PDF, though you give up the right to cancel as soon as you start downloading it. Or order printing, and a full resolution PDF of the design travels with the order, waiting for you in your confirmation email and under My Account once you have paid. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

Which card would you suggest for Business Cards?

The card option has 2 settings: 450gsm silk card (extra thick) or 350gsm silk card. Card thickness is shown as gsm, the weight in grams of one square metre, and more gsm means a sturdier card. Coated silk card gives crisp print; recycled, textured or uncoated cards have a softer, more natural feel and are nicer to write on. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds.

Lamination on Business Cards: how do the choices differ?

The lamination option has 4 settings: soft touch, both sides; gloss, both sides; matt, both sides; or none. A laminate is a very thin clear layer sealed over the print. Gloss gives richer, punchier colour; matt takes the shine away so photos and text are easier to read under lights; soft touch feels smooth, almost like velvet. Whichever you pick, the surface copes better with scuffs. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. For these cards, the material can be 450gsm silk card (extra thick) or 350gsm silk card.

Does the printed option I choose make a difference to Business Cards?

The printed option has 2 settings: front only or both sides. It sets which sides of the item get printed. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. For these cards, the material can be 450gsm silk card (extra thick) or 350gsm silk card.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Keep the order confirmation email we send: it itemises the purchase and the payment, and works as a plain receipt for your records. The total at checkout for these cards is the goods price on the page plus delivery, so the email matches what left the account. Need something more formal for an audit or a grant claim? Message us from the Contact page with your order number. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

Next year we will want the same card again. Is reordering easy?

Very. Choose the same product with the same options and upload the same file, and it is made again exactly as before. Designed it online? The print PDF from your first paid order stays in My Account and in the confirmation email, so you can reuse it. Before you repeat it, read the wording again: dates, prices, opening times and contact details are the things that go out of date. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Our club needs a big batch of cards, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Yes. Fill in our Get a quote page, giving the size, how many, the material, when you need them and the delivery postcode, and attach your artwork if it is ready. A price comes back to you by email. Get a quote is also how delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands gets priced. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

There is no need to sign up. Pay as a guest with a bank card, handled securely by Stripe, and you still get an order confirmation email and a tracking email on dispatch. An account is optional; it just keeps your order history in one place, along with downloads of designs you made online. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

Can I pay for Business Cards by card as a guest?

Yes. Guest checkout is fine, and any debit or credit card works. Stripe processes the payment for us, which keeps your card number off our system entirely. We begin making these cards once the payment has cleared and the artwork is confirmed. Large or out of the ordinary jobs can be quoted first from the Get a quote page. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

I have spotted a typo after paying. Can it be fixed?

Tell us quickly through the Contact page, quoting your order number. Before production starts we can take a corrected file, or cancel and refund the whole order. After that it cannot be changed. A print that matches your finished design or the file you sent is not a fault, so it pays to read every word and number before you order. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Take photos of the damage and the box it came in, then send them through the contact form within 48 hours of delivery, with your order number. Hold on to the item rather than posting it back; we reply and arrange a reprint or refund. This sits alongside your legal rights, which the returns page covers. Choose Saver and these cards leave us after 5 working days; Express brings that down to 2.

Bleed and dpi mean nothing to me. Can I still get printing done?

Yes. You do not need any print knowledge to order Business Cards. Send us your words and logo with the typesetting option (£15) and we build the layout, then you get a first draft and two rounds of changes. If you would rather make it yourself, the online designer checks the technical side as you go. Whatever you choose, a real person looks at the file before printing.

I am a parent volunteer with no design experience. Can I still order these cards?

You do not need to be a designer, and nobody expects a parent or a club helper to be one. You can use the online designer at no cost, which checks things like tiny text and blurry photos as you go. Or choose typesetting for £15 and send us your text and logo; you get a first draft and up to two rounds of changes. A second pair of eyes on the spelling always helps. If you have no file, you can build the design for these cards in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Five things: placeholder wording still sitting in the layout, lettering smaller than will print clearly, anything creeping past the safe area or right up to the trim, logos or photos with too few pixels for the size, and shapes lying on top of words. A serious issue has to be sorted before you finish, while a plain warning can be accepted if you are happy with it. Your spelling is not read, so go over names, numbers and dates yourself. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each card is made to order for you.

Can I design these cards first and show the committee before we pay?

You can. Designing online costs nothing until you order, so make a draft, show it to the group and tweak it as often as you like. The on-screen watermark is only there on the preview and is never printed. The designer flags things like small text or low-resolution photos as you go, but it cannot catch a wrong date, so have a second person read it. Before delivery, these cards cost from £19.23.

Will a pen write cleanly on these cards?

For handwriting, uncoated or textured card is best: biro and fountain pen both sit well on it. On silk, a biro works if you let it dry. Gloss and laminated surfaces are slippery for ink, so use a permanent pen and expect some smudging. If the back is for writing on, keep lamination off that side. For these cards, the material can be 450gsm silk card (extra thick) or 350gsm silk card.

How should we keep these cards in good condition until we need them?

Store paper and card lying flat, in the box it arrived in, in a dry spot out of sunlight and away from radiators. Moisture makes sheets curl and can cause jams in a printer, and strong light fades the colours over time. Only take out what you need, so the rest stays clean. For these cards, the material can be 450gsm silk card (extra thick) or 350gsm silk card.

Can these cards go in the recycling bin afterwards?

In most cases, yes, because unlaminated paper and card can go straight into your paper recycling. Foiled, laminated or plastic items are a different matter: they are harder to recycle and councils treat them differently, so look up your local rules first. Taking lamination off the order is the simplest way to keep it easy to recycle. For these cards, the material can be 450gsm silk card (extra thick) or 350gsm silk card.
