Printed Cafe Barriers

Printed cafe barriers turn three tables on the pavement into a proper outdoor terrace, with your name at hip height for everyone walking by. Order a full kit with its printed banner in Classic or Premium, then add extension kits when the seating grows. Choose single sided if the barrier backs onto a wall, or double sided if people see it from the street and from the tables.

What printed cafe barriers actually do

Picture a sunny Saturday. You have six tables out front, a pushchair squeezing past and someone's dog eyeing a customer's sausage roll. A line of barriers sorts all that out. It shows where your seating starts and stops, keeps a bit of space between diners and the foot traffic, and puts your name and logo right where passers-by look. Cafes, pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels use them on terraces, forecourts and pavement areas.

Full kit or extension kit?

  • Starting from scratch: order Cafe Barrier Banners, the full kit. You get a complete barrier with its printed banner, in Classic or Premium.
  • Adding length: order Cafe Barrier Extension Kits, which add a section to a run you already have. Match the range, so Classic goes with Classic and Premium with Premium.

Both kinds of printed cafe barriers print in full colour, on one side or both. One side does the job when the barrier backs onto your own window or a wall. Go for both sides when the tables face the street, so diners see a tidy logo too and not the back of a banner.

Printed cafe barriers: widths and prices

The Classic kit comes in three widths: 1000 mm, 1500 mm and 2000 mm. The size table near the top of the page shows the current starting prices.

Planning your run

Printed cafe barriers only look right when the run fits the space.

Measure every side

Take the tape measure out to each edge of the seating you want to enclose. Leave a gap for the way in, and another if staff need a route to the door. Then add up widths. A 3 m frontage could take one 2000 mm and one 1000 mm barrier, or two at 1500 mm.

Read your pavement licence

If your tables sit on a public pavement, your council's pavement licence may say where barriers can stand and how much space must stay clear for people walking by. Check it first, not after the kits arrive.

Leave room to grow

Start with full kits of printed cafe barriers for the main run. When the terrace does well and you add a few more tables, extension kits carry the same look along.

Artwork for a long, low banner

These banners are wide and short, so treat them like a shop fascia rather than a poster. Put your logo at one end, your name in the middle and one short line at the other end, such as "Open 7 days" or your opening times. Keep text well inside the edges, because the ends tuck in where the banner meets the posts. Design at the finished width of each barrier, and send separate files if each barrier carries something different. For double sided, say whether both faces match.

You can upload a print-ready file, use the free online designer, or hand it to our paid artwork service. A real person checks every uploaded file for free. The artwork guidelines cover bleed and resolution.

Timings and delivery

Printed cafe barriers take longer than most print, so plan ahead of the warm weather. Standard production is 17 working days, express 16 and saver 19, counted from when your order and artwork are confirmed. All printed cafe barriers are made to order and dispatched from the UK.

UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. See the delivery page. To pull people in from the other direction, pair the barriers with pavement signs by the entrance.

Cafe Barriers: questions answered

Do I need a full kit or an extension kit for my terrace?

Start with a full kit: a complete barrier, printed banner included, that stands up by itself. Extension kits are for later, when you want to add another section onto a run you already own. Classic and Premium versions exist for both.

How wide are the barrier sections?

Classic kits are priced at three widths, 1 m, 1.5 m and 2 m, as the table of sizes further up shows. Premium and extension kits list their own choices on their product pages. Measure each edge of your seating area first, then add up the sections.

Should both sides of my barrier be printed?

If people see the barrier from the street and from their table, which is true of most pavement seating, go double sided. If it backs onto brickwork, a hedge or your window, one printed face is enough, because nobody will see the other side.

How long do I need to allow for cafe barriers?

They take longer than most items. Standard is 17 working days before dispatch once your artwork is agreed. Express trims that to 16 and saver stretches it to 19. If you are opening for summer or launching a new site, order well ahead and leave some slack.

My tables go on the council pavement. Is there any paperwork?

Usually, yes. Seating on a public pavement normally needs a pavement licence from the local council, and the licence may say where barriers can stand. Read your licence conditions before you order. Tables on a forecourt you own tend to be simpler.
