Booklets Brochures

Booklets & brochures for anything with more to say than a leaflet: a price list, a match programme, a school prospectus, a training manual, a café menu that lives on the table. The big choice is the binding: stapled for slim books, a glued square spine for thicker ones, or wiro so it lies flat. Sizes run from A6 to A4, including square formats.

Booklets & Brochures (booklets brochures)

Booklets & brochures: start with the page count

Most people decide on binding last. Do it first, because the number of pages narrows it down straight away. A 12-page price list for a garden centre and a 90-page staff handbook are different animals, and the binding that suits one would look daft on the other. Count your pages, including the covers, then pick from the three below.

  • 8 to 48 pages: Saddle Stitched Booklets, stapled through the fold. Brochures, programmes, menus and newsletters.
  • 40 to 88 pages: Perfect Bound Booklets, with a glued, square spine like a paperback. Catalogues, annual reports and prospectuses.
  • 60 to 104 pages: Wiro Bound Booklets, with a wire spine in black, white or silver. They open flat on a desk, so they suit manuals, workbooks and recipe books.

Stapled and perfect bound books go up in multiples of four pages, so plan your content to fit.

Paper and covers for booklets & brochures

Inside pages come on 130gsm silk, 130gsm gloss or 170gsm silk for stapled books, and 90gsm smooth white, 130gsm silk or 170gsm silk for wiro and perfect bound. Silk is smooth with a low sheen, so text reads easily under bright lights. Gloss makes food photos and product shots pop. 90gsm smooth white takes a pen, which matters in a workbook people fill in.

Covers change the feel more than anything. A stapled book can have a self cover on the same paper as the pages, or a heavier 250gsm or 350gsm silk card cover. Perfect bound books take a 250gsm or 300gsm silk cover, with matt, gloss or soft touch lamination as an option. If the booklet will be passed round a waiting room or leafed through at every lunch service, go heavier and laminate.

Sizes of booklets & brochures

A6 (105 × 148 mm) fits a pocket. A5 (148 × 210 mm) is the handy middle size for programmes and menus. A4 (210 × 297 mm) gives space for big photos and tables. A5 and A4 come portrait or landscape, and 210 × 210 mm is a smart square that stands out on a shelf. Stapled and perfect bound books also come in DL (99 × 210 mm) and 148 × 148 mm. Wiro books come in A5, A4 and 210 × 210 mm. The size table near the top of the page shows live prices for popular options, and runs start from 25 copies.

Getting booklets & brochures artwork right

  • Send one PDF with single pages in reading order, not two-page spreads.
  • Add 3 mm bleed on every page, and keep text a safe distance in from the trim.
  • Make sure the PDF page count matches the count you ordered.
  • On a perfect bound book, keep important text away from the spine, where the pages curve into the glue.

Upload a print-ready file, use the free online designer, or book our paid artwork service (typesetting from your text, design from a brief, or a logo redraw), which includes 1 design and 2 rounds of changes. A real person checks every uploaded file for free. See the artwork guidelines.

Timing and delivery for booklets & brochures

Each product page shows its own production days for saver, standard and express, counted in working days from when your order and artwork are confirmed. All booklets & brochures are made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. See the delivery page.

Pairs well with

Tuck booklets & brochures into presentation folders for a pitch, or hand out flyers and leaflets as the short version for people who will not read the long one.

Booklets & Brochures: questions answered

Stapled or perfect bound: which booklet should we choose?

Stapled booklets, known as saddle stitched, are fixed through the fold and work for anything from 8 pages up to 48. Perfect bound booklets have a flat glued spine like a paperback, cover 40 to 88 pages, and feel more bookish for a club yearbook or a report.

How do I send in booklet artwork?

Make one PDF, page after page in the order they will be read. Do not pair them up into spreads, and give each page 3 mm of bleed. Check the file has exactly as many pages as the count you ordered.

Why do booklet page counts jump in fours?

Each booklet is built from sheets folded in half, and one folded sheet makes four pages. That is why the page choices step up four at a time.

We need a booklet that lies flat on a desk. Which one?

Go for wiro binding. A wire coil holds the pages, so the booklet opens right out flat on a table. It is ideal for manuals, workbooks and menus of 60 to 104 pages, and the wire comes in black, white or silver.

Is my booklet file checked?

Yes. A person checks every uploaded file for image quality, size and bleed. Check the page count and the page order yourself before uploading, as pages are printed as supplied. Paid design includes one first draft and two rounds of changes.

How quickly can you print our booklets?

Each product page lists the saver, standard and express times in working days before the booklets leave us, counted from artwork confirmation. Postage to the mainland is £7.95, free once goods reach £100 after discounts. Mainland Scottish Highlands add £10, and islands and Northern Ireland are quoted.
