Electrician label printing, job by job

PAT testing a client's office

Forty kettles, monitors and extension leads, one label each: the classic electrician label printing job. PAT Test Pass Labels go on everything that passes. PAT Test Fail Labels mark anything withdrawn from use, so nobody plugs the dodgy heater back in. Both come in 51 x 25 mm or 62 x 33 mm, small enough to wrap round a flex or sit on a plug top.

Finishing a consumer unit swap

An RCD Test Label by the board reminds the householder to press the test button. It comes in 76 x 51 mm or 96 x 45 mm. Add Safety Electrical Connection Labels at earthing and bonding points so nobody unclips them while fitting a new sink.

Signing off an EICR

Periodic Inspection Labels record when the installation was last inspected and when the next one is due. 76 x 51 mm or 96 x 68 mm, fixed at or near the board where the next electrician will look first.

Fitting solar PV or a battery

Dual Supply & Solar PV Labels warn that the installation has more than one source of power, so isolating the main switch does not make it dead. 96 x 68 mm or 76 x 51 mm.

Paper or polypropylene?

For electrician label printing, gloss paper suits a dry, indoor board. Matt paper takes a pen, so you can write dates and initials on site. For anything that could get damp or grubby, such as a garage board, a loft, a meter box on an outside wall or the inside of a van, pick waterproof white polypropylene with a matt laminate.

What we print on them

With electrician label printing, your company name and phone number go on every label, plus a registration or ID number as plain text if you want it. Scheme and trade-body logos are never printed. Labels are a visible record of dates and contacts on the kit. They sit alongside your certificates and test results and never stand in for them.

Signs for the switchroom, and magnets for the van

For commercial jobs, electrician label printing sits alongside voltage and shock warning signs in A4 (210 × 297 mm), A3, A2 or A1 (594 × 841 mm), on 3mm Foamex, 3mm Dibond aluminium composite or self-adhesive vinyl. Think Caution 240 Volts on a distribution board, Danger Electric Shock Risk on a plant room door, or Danger Buried Cables on a trench.

On the road, magnetic van signs in A2 and car door magnets in A3 or A2 are made on 900µ magnetic sheeting. On for work, off for the weekend. Cards, invoice books and the rest are in business stationery.

Artwork, timings and delivery

Upload a print-ready file, make one in the free online designer, or use our paid artwork service. A real person checks every uploaded file for free on electrician label printing orders. Read your phone number out loud before you order; a typo on a thousand PAT labels is a long afternoon. The artwork guidelines cover file set-up.

Timings differ by product. Across electrician label printing and the rest of this page, standard production runs from 3 to 10 working days, express from 2, and each product page shows its own figures. Everything is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10; Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. See the delivery page, or get a quote for large runs.

Electricians: questions answered

What do electricians and PAT testers buy from this page most often?

PAT Test Pass Labels, PAT Test Fail Labels and RCD Test Labels are the three favourites. Every label is printed with your company name and phone number, so the office manager or landlord can find you again when the retest is due.

Can I fill in PAT labels with a normal pen?

On matt paper labels, yes: a ballpoint works, and so does a permanent pen. On waterproof polypropylene, use a permanent marker, because the smooth surface does not take ballpoint ink well.

Some appliances live outdoors. Which PAT labels should I use on those?

Waterproof polypropylene, which is not bothered by rain or a hosepipe. Keep paper labels for kit that stays dry indoors, such as office equipment, kettles and computers.

Can my scheme membership logo go on my labels?

No. Scheme and trade-body logos are licensed to their members, so they stay off our print. What we can add is your registration number as plain words, alongside your own business logo.

Is there a starter pack for electricians?

Yes. The Electrician Starter Pack brings labels, 250 business cards and 2 NCR books together. Its price is today's cost of those items added up, less a real saving, and the product page shows exactly what is inside.

What does it cost to post a batch of PAT labels?

A flat £7.95 per order to the UK mainland, and free once your goods come to £100 after discount codes. Mainland Scottish Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted first.
