Flag Bases Printing

Flag bases printing is the odd one out on our flags pages, because there is nothing to print: these are the spikes and weighted bases that hold your feather, teardrop or crest flag upright. Buy a spare, replace a cracked one, or get a different base for a new spot. Seven types, sold as base only with no flag, and you can order 1 to 50.

What you get from flag bases printing

Straight answer first: the bases themselves aren't printed. This page sits with flag bases printing because it is where you find the hardware for the flags you've already had printed. One product, Flag Bases and Ground Spikes, covers every type we offer. It comes as base only, so you add it to a flag you already own.

Why buy one on its own? The flag that lives on the grass verge outside the café in summer might need to stand on the patio in winter. The club flag that goes to away matches needs a second base so the one at home can stay put. Or the old water base finally split after three seasons in the car park.

Seven bases, seven kinds of ground

  • Standard ground spike: push it into grass or soft soil. Fields, verges, school playing fields.
  • Budget ground spike: the same idea for grass, for lighter use.
  • Small water base: fill it on site for paving and car parks.
  • Large water base: more weight on paving and tarmac, for taller flags.
  • Large cross base: sits flat on indoor floors and hard ground.
  • Small square base: a neat footprint for showrooms and receptions.
  • Drive-on car base: a car wheel parks on it and holds the flag on a forecourt.

Flag bases printing options and prices

Each base type is listed on the product page with its live price. The size table near the top of the page shows them side by side.

Match the base to the flag height

Taller flags catch more wind, so they only come with the heavier bases. The 4.9 m feather flag, the 4.6 m teardrop flag and the 4 m and 4.9 m crest flags are not offered with the small water base, the small square base or the budget ground spike. Check the product page for your flag height before you choose, and your flag bases printing order will fit first time.

No base keeps a flag safe in a proper gale. When the wind picks up, bring it in. That saves the pole and the print.

Using your base

  • Fill water bases right to the top once they are in position, and empty them before you move them. A full one is heavy.
  • Push spikes in straight, or the flag leans all day.
  • Put a drive-on base where the car will stay put until closing time.
  • Indoors, keep cross and square bases out of walkways so nobody catches a foot.

Flag Bases: questions answered

We lost the base for our flag. Can I buy just a new base?

Yes. The bases and spikes product comes on its own, no flag in the box. Use it to replace one that has gone missing or broken, or buy a second so the same flag can go on grass one day and paving the next.

What holds a flag up on tarmac or paving?

A water base, in the small or large size, because you cannot push a spike into hard ground. On a forecourt you can also use a drive-on plate that sits under a parked car's tyre. Check first which bases your flag height allows.

We want a flag inside our showroom. Which base?

The cross or square bases sit flat on hard floors, which makes them right for showrooms, reception areas and exhibition venues. Spikes only work in grass, and water bases are mostly used outside.

Will any base fit any flag?

No. The very tallest flags only come with the heavier bases. The lighter choices, meaning the smaller water and square bases and the budget spike, are not offered on the tallest feather, teardrop or crest flags, so check the options on your flag's own page.
