Overview

Open day banner printing without the faff: you choose the size and finish, the price shows as you go, and we print it to order.

Materials for open day banner printing

We print it on 440gsm PVC, the standard tough banner vinyl. You can also add eyelets in plastic or metal (metal is the tougher choice for banners that stay up outside), hemmed edges, where the edge is folded and welded for strength (worth having on anything going outside) and a bag or two of cable ties, so the fixings turn up with the banner.

Good jobs for it

Right for promoting open days and open evenings. Colleges use them across entrances on open days and at freshers fairs. Nurseries use them on the gate so parents walking past see places are available.

Sizes

For open day banner printing: 13 sizes, from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) up to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm). Railings and gates are the usual spot, so measure between the posts. A banner that sits inside the posts looks neater than one that overhangs.

Cable ties through the eyelets are the quickest way up on railings and fences; on a wall, use screws with washers or hooks.

Timing

Got artwork? Upload it. No artwork? Use the online designer, or our paid artwork service (1 design, 2 rounds of changes). Either way a person looks over the file first, free. Standard production is 4 working days from when your order and artwork are confirmed. Express gets it done from 2 working days. Saver takes 6 and is there if you are not in a rush. Your open day banner printing is made to order and dispatched from the UK.

We charge £7.95 to send it anywhere on the UK mainland, and nothing once your goods come to £100 or more after discounts. Mainland Highlands postcodes add £10; Northern Ireland, the islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. The sizes over 3 m on any side go by specialist courier, which adds £15 once per order. Full details are on the delivery page.

Questions

Quick answers about open day banner printing.

How big should an open day banner be to catch the eye of families driving past?

Families in cars need big lettering, so 8 ft × 3 ft (2438 × 914 mm) or 10 ft × 3 ft (3048 × 914 mm) on the railings or fence is the usual pick. Hang a 6 ft × 3 ft (1829 × 914 mm) at the gate or front entrance to point visitors in on the day.

Which material is used for the open day banners?

Full colour print on 440gsm PVC. Prices start at £36.53. For another material, send a request from the Get a quote page.

How big do these come?

Smallest is 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm), largest is 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), with 11 more in between, including 4 ft 11 in × 1 ft 8 in (1500 × 500 mm). Measure your space first so your open day banner fits. Prices start at £36.53 and change with the size you pick.

What is the turnaround on my open day banner order?

On Standard it is made and handed to the courier within 4 working days; Express shortens that to 2 working days, Saver stretches it to 6 working days for less. The clock starts once your order is placed and the file is confirmed. Goods worth £100 or more travel free to a UK mainland address; below that, delivery is a flat £7.95 for the whole order.

Which options does this banner have?

13 sizes from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), material (440gsm PVC), eyelets (plastic eyelets or metal eyelets), hemming (hemmed edges or none) and cable ties (none, 1 bag or 2 bags). Every combination is priced on this page, from £36.53.

Do you check the design I upload?

Every upload is looked at by a person first, and nothing is printed until it passes. If anything needs fixing on your open day banner order, we tell you before it is made. Paid help is there too: a clean layout from your text and logo (£15), a design from your brief (£35) or a logo redraw (£30), each with one first draft and two rounds of changes.

Asked by buyers

How cheaply can I get hold of Open Day Banners?

Picked the way the page first loads, with 440gsm PVC and 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm), Open Day Banners come to £36.53. Any other mix of options, a faster turnaround included, gets its own price the moment you choose it, and that figure is what you pay at checkout. Only delivery is left to add. On its own the opening price of £36.53 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero.

Which turnaround speeds can I choose for Open Day Banners?

Allow 6 working days on Saver, 4 on Standard or 2 on Express before Open Day Banners are handed to the courier, based on the options the page opens with. Weekends and bank holidays are not counted, and nothing starts until the order is paid and the artwork is confirmed. Pick another size or material and the days beside each speed update, sometimes by a day. After it leaves us, the courier normally delivers in one to three working days and you get the tracking link by email.

How far ahead should I order a banner for an open day?

Count back from the day. Saver, the cheapest option, needs 6 working days before it leaves us, and Express needs 2. Then allow one to three working days in the courier van. The clock starts when your order and file are both in and confirmed, so get names, wording and photos sorted first. Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays are not counted. Choose Saver and these banners leave us after 6 working days; Express brings that down to 2. The biggest sizes of these banners go by specialist courier, which adds £15 once to the order. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

I am making my own design. How do I lay out the file for these banners?

Build the page at the exact size you are ordering, or at a scale such as 1:10 if the file would be huge, and carry the background colour or picture all the way out to the edges. Words and logos belong 50 mm or more inside every edge. The hem is folded back there and the eyelet holes go through close to the border. Somewhere between 100 and 150 dpi at full size is plenty, since a banner is read from a few steps back. Designing online instead? The editor marks where the eyelets and the safe zone are. For reference, Open Day Banners are listed in 12 sizes, the smallest being 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm).

Which artwork services are offered with Open Day Banners?

Several routes, all chosen under Artwork on this page. Send your own finished file (no charge), we set your words and logo on a tidy layout, called typesetting (£15), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. The fee is the same whatever quantity you order and shows separately in the basket. There is also a free online designer if you want to build it yourself. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

Is the online designer free, and how do I use it?

Pick a starting layout, swap in your own words, logo and pictures, and move things around until it looks right. While you work, the tool flags sample text you forgot to change, small text, items outside the safe area and blurry images, before you can finish. It is free to use and the on-screen watermark does not print. What you see is what we print. Make the artwork for these banners the same size as the one you order, such as 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm). On its opening option, Open Day Banners leaves us after 6 working days on Saver.

We are not sure how big to go. Which banner size is right for us?

Two numbers decide it: the space you are filling, and the distance people will read it from. At 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm), the smallest option here sits neatly on a stall, a doorway or one section of railing. At 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), the biggest can stretch along a playing field fence or across the front of a building and still be read from far off. Nothing quite right? Any measurement from 300 mm on the short side to 5000 mm long by 3000 mm deep can be made. For reference, Open Day Banners are listed in 12 sizes, the smallest being 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm).

Where do people usually put up a banner for an open day?

Anywhere there is something to tie the eyelets to. For an open day that is often the school railings, the main gate, the playing field fence or the back wall of the hall. As a starting point, 6 ft × 3 ft (1829 × 914 mm) at £54.26 fits most fences and walls. On painted walls indoors, hang it from hooks or a cord and skip the sticky tape. Outside, use every eyelet and take it down if a gale is forecast.

Does rain get through these banners?

It keeps the weather out: 440gsm PVC is waterproof banner vinyl built for use outside. Its life outdoors comes down to exposure. Strong sun and gusty wind age it faster, while hemming, metal rings and a fixing in every hole keep it in good shape for longer. For a very windy spot, such as an open fence line or scaffold, choose mesh so the wind can pass through. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

Could you price an 8 ft × 3 ft (2438 × 914 mm) banner for me?

From £64.91, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. On its opening option, Open Day Banners leaves us after 6 working days on Saver.

I am not a business. Can I buy just one of these banners?

Of course. Anyone can order, with no trade account and no minimum beyond one. Prices for Open Day Banners begin at £36.53, checkout works without an account and you pay by card. Parents, clubs, churches and small shops order single items all the time. On its own the opening price of £36.53 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero.

Could the total go up after I reach the checkout?

No surprises: what the page shows for these banners is the goods figure you pay at checkout. Delivery is the one extra, £7.95 to a UK mainland address, and it drops away when the goods reach £100 after discounts. Paid artwork help shows up as its own basket line, so you can check each amount before paying.

And the largest banner, 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm): how much is that one?

From £161.77, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. That clears the £100 mark on its own, so UK mainland delivery costs nothing. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you.

How can a small charity keep the cost of these banners down?

Three things help most: a modest size, 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at £36.53; the Saver option, which costs least and needs 6 working days; and wording without a date, so it can be used again. Making the design yourself on screen is free. Delivery is free once the goods reach £100, so a few groups sharing one order can save the £7.95. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53. On its opening option, Open Day Banners leaves us after 6 working days on Saver.

Our event is close. Can Open Day Banners be rushed?

Yes. Choose Express and Open Day Banners can be on the way in 2 working days on the opening option, for £48.70, where Saver is £36.53 and takes 6 days. Then give the courier one to three working days, and send the artwork with the order, because the clock does not run until the file is sorted. If the date is really tight, message us on the Contact page before paying and we will tell you honestly.

Someone else is putting our file together. How does it reach you?

Easiest route: they send the finished file to whoever placed the order, and it gets uploaded after ordering. Up to 3 files of 25 MB each are fine. They can also reach us through the Contact page, as long as they quote your order number so it lands on the right job. Production waits for the checked file, so a late file means a later dispatch date. Make the artwork for these banners the same size as the one you order, such as 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm). On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these banners?

Big items seen from a distance only need 100 to 150 dpi at full size. So a 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm) layout wants about 11,811 by 7,874 pixels. Keep lettering and logos as vectors if you can. An image copied off a web page or a social post rarely has enough pixels; if yours looks likely to print soft, our file check flags it. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

Any tips on the wording for these banners?

Less is more. Aim for one main line that can be read from across the road or the hall, and add a name or date only if it matters. A handful of words, three to six, printed big will beat a full sentence printed small. Read every name through twice, because the banner is printed exactly as you send or design it. The online designer has ready-made layouts to start from. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

How tall do the letters need to be so people can read these banners from a distance?

Take 6 ft × 3 ft (1829 × 914 mm) as an example. Leave 50 mm clear on every side and the text area is about 814 mm high. Capitals 240 mm tall can be picked out at around 29 m, because sign makers reckon every 25 mm of letter height carries roughly 3 m. A few short, heavy words in a colour that stands out from the background travel further than a long line squeezed in. If you have no file, you can build the design for these banners in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. For reference, Open Day Banners are listed in 12 sizes, the smallest being 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm).

Can I send a Word or Canva file for Open Day Banners?

Word, PowerPoint and Canva are a fair place to start, but export a high quality PDF from them before uploading. Our first choice is always a PDF at the ordered size with fonts embedded or outlined, followed by AI, EPS or SVG, then high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF. You can add three files, each up to 25 MB, on this page, or upload them after ordering from the email we send. If you have no file, you can build the design for these banners in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

Can these banners be made to my own measurements?

Yes. Pick Custom size and type in what you need. The shortest side can be 300 mm, and the biggest piece is 5000 mm long by 3000 mm deep, landscape or portrait. You pay the price of the smallest listed size your measurements fit inside, so a slightly odd size costs no more than it needs to. Imperial or metric both work; switch the unit beside the size box. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53. Material choices for Open Day Banners: 440gsm PVC.

Can a club banner go up every weekend and come down again?

It can. Club secretaries often leave the season and dates off so one banner covers every home fixture. Tie every eyelet on the rail, take it down after the final whistle, let it dry if it has rained and roll it with the print facing out. For a windswept pitch, mesh takes less strain than solid PVC. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

Could we put these banners up on a building site or around works?

Short term or in a sheltered spot, a banner is fine. For weeks on open fencing, switch to mesh, which lets the wind through. Whoever puts them up should tie off every fixing point firmly and check again once the wind has been blowing. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

We have a school fair coming up. Would these banners be suitable?

Yes. Tie them to railings, a fence or a gazebo, or stand them on an easel. If you are outside and the wind picks up, check the fixings again during the day. Leave time for making and delivery before the date of the fair. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. Material choices for Open Day Banners: 440gsm PVC.

I run a small shop. Would these banners work on the front of it?

A cafe, salon, market stall or corner shop can put these banners to good use out front. A PVC banner on the fascia or railings is a fast way to shout about an opening or an offer. For scale, 6 ft 7 in × 3 ft 3 in (2000 × 1000 mm) is £61.49. Large or lit signs may need advertisement consent from the council, and your landlord may have a say. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. On its opening option, Open Day Banners leaves us after 6 working days on Saver.

Would these banners look right inside a hall or a shop?

Yes. PVC hangs flat and the print comes out crisp, so it suits school halls, church halls, receptions, stage fronts and indoor events. If you would rather avoid PVC indoors, our PVC-free banners are made in the same sizes. Inside you can skip the ties altogether. Hang it by the eyelets from hooks or a length of cord, or use hanging strips that peel off cleanly.

Our spot gets windy. Is a PVC banner going to cope?

Think of solid PVC stretched along open fencing as a sail. Every gust presses on the whole sheet, and all that force ends up in the eyelets and the ties. So use every eyelet, pull it firm without stretching it, look at the ties again after the first blustery spell, and bring it in if a storm is on the way. If it has to stay up for weeks somewhere exposed, mesh is the better buy because much of the wind blows through it. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

Can you explain the hemming setting for Open Day Banners?

Hemming turns the edge over and welds it down, so the eyelets grip a double layer and the border is far less likely to rip. For anything facing the weather it is money well spent. For Open Day Banners the list runs none or Hemmed Edges. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

Which cable ties would you suggest for Open Day Banners?

The cable ties option has 3 settings: 2 bags, 1 bag or none. Add a bag or two of ties and you will not be hunting for them on the day you hang it. Do the four corners first, then work along every eyelet. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you. For reference, Open Day Banners are listed in 12 sizes, the smallest being 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm).

How do I pick the right eyelets for Open Day Banners?

Eyelets are the little rings set into the border so a tie or bungee can go through. If it is staying outside for weeks or months, go for metal, which lasts longer than plastic. For Open Day Banners the list runs metal eyelets or plastic eyelets. Try each one on the page: the figure changes as you click, so the cost of every choice is clear.

How should I keep these banners between uses?

Make sure it is bone dry and clean, then roll it up loosely with the print on the outside, round a cardboard tube if one is handy. Try not to fold it, because sharp folds leave creases and the ink can crack along them. Snip off old cable ties before rolling so they do not press marks into the print, and store the roll in a dry cupboard well clear of radiators. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Before delivery, these banners cost from £36.53. For reference, Open Day Banners are listed in 12 sizes, the smallest being 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm).

Could we bring these banners out again another time?

That depends on the wording. Leave off the year or the date, and it will be just as useful for the next open day. The banner material is made to be put up, taken down and rolled away again and again. Let it dry, roll it with the print outwards and keep it somewhere dry. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

There is no need to sign up. Pay as a guest with a bank card, handled securely by Stripe, and you still get an order confirmation email and a tracking email on dispatch. An account is optional; it just keeps your order history in one place, along with downloads of designs you made online. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you.

I have spotted a typo after paying. Can it be fixed?

Tell us quickly through the Contact page, quoting your order number. Before production starts we can take a corrected file, or cancel and refund the whole order. After that it cannot be changed. A print that matches your finished design or the file you sent is not a fault, so it pays to read every word and number before you order. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.

Our treasurer needs a receipt for the accounts. What do we get?

Keep the order confirmation email we send: it itemises the purchase and the payment, and works as a plain receipt for your records. The total at checkout for these banners is the goods price on the page plus delivery, so the email matches what left the account. Need something more formal for an audit or a grant claim? Message us from the Contact page with your order number. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.

Can I pay for Open Day Banners by card as a guest?

Yes. Guest checkout is fine, and any debit or credit card works. Stripe processes the payment for us, which keeps your card number off our system entirely. We begin making these banners once the payment has cleared and the artwork is confirmed. Large or out of the ordinary jobs can be quoted first from the Get a quote page. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.

Should I send my file as RGB or CMYK?

CMYK if you can. An RGB file gets converted to CMYK for printing, and vivid greens, blues and oranges may lose a little brightness on the way. Have a Pantone number for your brand colour? Tell us and we match it as near as the material lets us. Expect a small shift between screen and print either way: a screen shines light at you, while printed items reflect it. Sizes for these banners go from 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) at the small end to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), 12 in all.

Bleed and dpi mean nothing to me. Can I still get printing done?

Yes. You do not need any print knowledge to order Open Day Banners. Send us your words and logo with the typesetting option (£15) and we build the layout, then you get a first draft and two rounds of changes. If you would rather make it yourself, the online designer checks the technical side as you go. Whatever you choose, a real person looks at the file before printing.

Can I design these banners first and show the committee before we pay?

You can. Designing online costs nothing until you order, so make a draft, show it to the group and tweak it as often as you like. The on-screen watermark is only there on the preview and is never printed. The designer flags things like small text or low-resolution photos as you go, but it cannot catch a wrong date, so have a second person read it. Make the artwork for these banners the same size as the one you order, such as 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm). Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you. On this page, Open Day Banners start from £36.53.

It has got muddy. How can I clean these banners?

A bowl of warm water with a drop of gentle washing-up liquid and a soft sponge or cloth is all you need. Rinse with clean water afterwards and let it dry, hanging up or laid flat. Keep away from solvents, scouring pads and pressure washers, as they can strip the ink or scuff the surface. Only roll it up once it is completely dry, otherwise it may mark or start to smell. We print these banners on 440gsm PVC. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each banner is made to order for you.
