A sale nobody sees isn't a sale
Tuesday morning, rain on the window, and the high street is half empty. The few people who do walk past are looking at their feet. A big, bold banner across the fascia is what lifts their eyes. That's the only job printed sale banners have, and they're very good at it.
Three printed sale banners for three moments
- Seasonal sales, clearance and promotions: Sale Banners. January, summer, Black Friday, end of line.
- The last few weeks: Closing Down Sale Banners for final clearance.
- Doors open: We Are Open Banners for a launch, a refit reopening, or just reminding people you're still trading behind the scaffolding.
What they're made of
All three are printed full colour on 440gsm PVC, a solid, opaque banner material that keeps reds and yellows loud on a fascia or behind glass. Hemmed edges are the right call outside. Metal eyelets outlast plastic on a banner left up for weeks. Add a bag or two of cable ties and your printed sale banners go up the same afternoon they arrive.
Sizes that fit a shop
Measure the space before you choose. Over a fascia you usually want long and thin: 8 ft × 3 ft (2438 × 914 mm), 10 ft × 3 ft (3048 × 914 mm) or 6 ft 7 in × 1 ft 8 in (2000 × 500 mm). Inside a window, 4 ft × 2 ft (1219 × 610 mm) or 4 ft 11 in × 3 ft 3 in (1500 × 1000 mm) often fits better. There are 13 stock sizes in all, up to 9 ft 10 in × 6 ft 7 in (3000 × 2000 mm), listed with live prices in the size table near the top of the page. Anything over 3 m on a side, like the 10 ft × 3 ft, adds the oversize delivery charge.
Reusable or one-off?
Decide this before you design. A banner that just says SALE in huge letters comes out every January and July for years. A banner with dates and a percentage is done the day the sale ends. Many shops keep one evergreen banner and order dated printed sale banners only for big events. Worth checking too: some landlords and councils have rules about banners on building fronts, so ask before you tie one up.
Artwork for printed sale banners
- One huge word, a couple of short lines, no more.
- For reading from across the road, allow about 25 mm of capital letter height for every 3 metres of distance.
- Strong contrast wins: white on red, black on yellow, dark on light.
- Keep text 50 mm in from every edge so hems and eyelets don't bite into it.
- Read the dates and the offer twice. The banner says exactly what the file says.
Upload a print-ready file, knock one up in the free online designer, or use our paid artwork service. A real person checks every uploaded file for free. File set-up is in the artwork guidelines.
Timing and delivery
Standard production is 4 working days, express from 2 working days and saver 6, counted from when your order and artwork are confirmed, so you can time printed sale banners to land before the sale starts. Everything is made to order and dispatched from the UK. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts (artwork fees excluded). Mainland Highlands add £10. Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight are quoted. Items over 3 m on any side add £15. See the delivery page.
Other banners for the shop
For messages that aren't about a sale, the full PVC banners range has the same material with more options. Banners by size helps if you've already measured, and the what size banner do I need guide helps if you haven't. Ordering printed sale banners for a chain of shops? Get a quote.
Retail & Sale Banners: questions answered
What size sale banner works for a small shop?
Measure the space first. A long, narrow banner such as 8 × 3 ft or 10 × 3 ft fits above the shop, while a 4 × 2 ft banner sits inside most windows. If people will read it from the other side of the road, go up a size.
I am closing my shop. Do you do closing down banners?
Yes, there is a banner just for that final sale. You write the wording, and it comes on 440gsm PVC in any of 13 sizes, hemmed, with eyelets in metal or plastic. Many owners pair it with a second, smaller banner for the window.
Can I reuse a sale banner next season?
If you leave dates and one-off prices off the design, easily. Something that simply reads Sale or Clearance can come down after the event, be rolled loosely, stored somewhere dry, and go back up next January or summer.
What would I use a We Are Open banner for?
It tells shoppers walking by that the doors are open, which is handy after a refit, a closure or the first week in new premises. The banner is full colour 440gsm PVC, and the sizes and finishing match the sale range.
