Overview

Allergen label printing, made to order and dispatched from the UK.

Who uses them, and where

A home baker selling brownies at a Saturday market. A café wrapping sandwiches for the grab-and-go fridge. A caterer boxing up lunches for an office. Each one needs a quick, clear way to say what is in the food. The label goes on packaging, containers or the card next to a display.

How the label is laid out

"Allergy Advice" runs across the top. Below it are write-on lines for "Contains" and "May contain". Your business name and phone number sit in a strip at the bottom, so a customer with a question knows who to ask. If your recipes are fixed, have the allergens printed in rather than writing them by hand every time. You can also add a logo or change the wording.

Allergen label printing: stock and size

  • Matt paper takes a ballpoint or permanent pen, so it suits labels you fill in each batch.
  • Gloss paper gives bright colour for pre-printed labels.
  • Waterproof white polypropylene with a matt laminate copes with damp and handling. Write on it with a permanent marker.

62 × 33 mm is a slim rectangle for boxes and bags. 51 × 51 mm is square and suits lids. Paper packs run from 30 to 10,080 labels; polypropylene starts at 750. Labels come on sheets, kiss cut, with a permanent adhesive. Other sizes can be quoted.

Your wording, your responsibility

We print exactly the allergen information you supply or set in the designer. The allergen information is your responsibility, so please check the wording carefully before you order.

Start your allergen label printing in the free online designer, upload a print-ready file, or use our paid artwork service. A person checks every uploaded file for free. After your order and artwork are confirmed, it is 3 working days to dispatch on Express, 5 on Standard or 7 on Saver. UK mainland delivery is £7.95, free on orders of £100 or more after discounts; see delivery. More kitchen labels are in trade and compliance labels.

The Food Information Regulations 2014 enforce the rules on food information in England, including allergens. The label is where that information goes; getting it right stays with the food business.

Questions

Quick answers about allergen label printing.

What goes on each allergen label?

A "Allergy Advice" heading, spaces to fill in for "Contains" and "May contain", and your company name and phone number. In the online designer you can change the wording or add a logo, and you see exactly what is printed.

Can I write on an allergen label with a pen?

Yes, if you order your allergen label on the right stock. Matt paper takes a ballpoint or a permanent pen. The waterproof polypropylene has a matt laminate, so use a permanent marker on it. Gloss paper is meant for labels that are printed in full with nothing to fill in.

Which allergen label stock copes with rain or damp?

Waterproof polypropylene. It shrugs off water and handling, so it is right for outdoor units, lofts, meter boxes, vans and plant rooms. The paper labels are for dry, indoor spots only.

Will putting these labels on make us compliant?

Not by themselves. An allergen label is a visible record of dates and contacts. What counts is the inspection, service or test itself, and the paperwork that goes with it.

What is the minimum order for these labels?

Paper from 30 labels and polypropylene from 750. Price per label falls as packs get larger, and you can see the cost each for every pack below the price. Need a size that is not listed? Use the Get a quote page.

I run a bakery. Can the allergens be printed on labels for each product?

Yes, with one design for each product. Type the ingredients and the allergen wording into the extra wording box, then read it through carefully before ordering.

How fast can I have my allergen label order?

Pick Saver (7 working days), Standard (5 working days) or Express (3 working days); that is the time before it leaves us. Spend £100 on goods (design fees are not counted) and UK mainland delivery is free; otherwise it is £7.95 once. Northern Ireland and island addresses get a delivery quote first, and the mainland Highlands add £10.

Asked by buyers

How much will Allergen Labels set me back?

£26.31 is where Allergen Labels start, set up as 62 × 33 mm and gloss paper (indoor) on the Saver speed. Change the size, material, extras, quantity or speed and the total on the page moves straight away. The price you see is the price you pay at checkout, with delivery the only thing that can be added. Delivery anywhere on the UK mainland is £7.95 an order, and it costs nothing once the goods come to £100 or more after any discount code (design and artwork fees are not counted).

What wording comes already printed on these labels, and what do I write in myself?

You fill in two things by hand: contains plus may contain. Everything else is printed for you, starting with the "ALLERGY ADVICE" heading, then your company name, phone number and, as text only, any registration number. Want your logo on too? Add it in the online designer before you finish the layout. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31.

If I buy Allergen Labels today, when will they leave you?

As the page first opens, the speeds for Allergen Labels are Express 3 working days, Standard 5 and Saver 7, counting Monday to Friday and skipping bank holidays. The count begins once we have your order and a file ready to print. A bigger size or a different material can move it by a day either way; each speed shows its own days as you choose. Tracking arrives by email on the day it ships, and the courier usually takes one to three working days from there.

Is delivery ever free?

It is £7.95 for the whole order, not per item, and free once the goods reach £100 after any discount code; design or artwork charges are left out of that £100. On its own the opening price of £26.31 would add £7.95 for mainland delivery; reach £100 of goods and that goes to zero. A mainland Highlands postcode puts a single £10 on the order. Northern Ireland has its delivery priced before you pay, and so do the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. On its opening option, Allergen Labels leaves us after 7 working days on Saver.

I cannot design at all. Can someone make the artwork for me?

Yes. When you choose the Artwork option you can pick from: we put your details on the ready label layout (no charge), send your own finished file (no charge), we design it from your brief (£35), we redraw a blurry or low quality logo as sharp vector art (£30) or we create a brand new logo (£50). Each fee is fixed, sits as its own line in your basket and covers every item on that line. Typesetting and design from a brief each come with one first draft and two rounds of changes. Prefer to do it yourself? The online designer is free to use. For reference, Allergen Labels are listed in 2 sizes, the smallest being 62 × 33 mm.

Could I lay out these labels myself on your website?

Yes. Start the designer from this page, choose a layout to begin with, then drop in your text, logo and photos and drag them where you want. It checks as you go and warns you about leftover sample text, lettering that is too small, anything outside the safe area and images too low in resolution, all before you finish. Designing and previewing costs nothing. The watermark you see on screen is never printed; once you finish, it goes into the basket. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 62 × 33 mm.

Will paper do for these labels, or do they need something that copes with damp?

Anywhere damp, outdoors or knocked about: pick the waterproof polypropylene and write on it with a permanent marker. Somewhere dry indoors where you will write details on each one: matt paper is the easiest to write on. Nothing to write and staying indoors: gloss paper does the job for less. Swap between the three materials on this page and the total updates as you go. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor). Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. On this page, Allergen Labels start from £26.31.

Which is the smallest and which the biggest label I can order here?

Smallest: 62 × 33 mm, from £26.31. Biggest: 51 × 51 mm, from £26.31. Both figures are for the cheapest options. Not sure which? Mark the space out with tape or string first and stand back to look. The size table further up the page lists every size next to its price, so you can weigh up two sizes side by side.

Biro or marker: what writes best on these labels?

That comes down to the material. Matt paper is happy with an everyday biro or a thin permanent pen. The waterproof polypropylene has a laminate on top where biro ink just sits and smears, so keep a permanent marker for that one. If the spot is fiddly to reach, write the contains and the rest while the label is still on its backing sheet. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor).

I belong to a registration scheme. Will you put its badge on my labels?

We cannot, because those badges belong to the scheme and only its members may use them, under its own rules. What we can print is your membership or registration number in plain text, next to your own business logo if you have one. Where your scheme hands out official badge labels or sets rules for showing membership, go by what it says. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor). Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you. Material choices for Allergen Labels: Gloss paper (indoor), Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on) or Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor).

How much for the biggest size, 51 × 51 mm?

From £26.31 for 30, with the cheapest settings and the Saver service. Add £7.95 for UK mainland delivery, or nothing at all once the goods reach £100. Select it on the page and swap materials, finishes and speed to watch how the figure moves. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

What form do Allergen Labels take when they arrive?

In short, the supplied line for Allergen Labels reads: On sheets, kiss cut, ready to peel. Anything unusual in mind? Send the details through our quote form and someone will reply. The Specifications tab lists every other detail. Your basket keeps each line separate, so different sizes and quantities can sit in one order.

Do these labels come on a roll or on sheets, and how many are in a pack?

Paper packs go from 30 up to 10,080 labels, and the waterproof polypropylene version begins at 750. They arrive kiss cut on backing sheets, so each label lifts off on its own. The glue is permanent. Each pack size has its own per-label figure in the price table, which makes comparing two sizes quick. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31.

Is there a minimum quantity for these labels?

The smallest order is 30 and the largest listed is 20000; the list starts 30, 48, 420, 480, 750 and 1000 and carries on from there. The price on the page covers every item in that quantity. To compare two quantities fairly, split each total by its number. A bigger run than the list allows can be priced separately on our Get a quote page. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

I live in the Scottish Highlands. Will Allergen Labels cost more to send?

The whole UK is covered. Outside it, sadly, we cannot deliver. Mainland addresses in the Highlands pay one extra £10 on the order, even when delivery would otherwise be free. For Northern Ireland, and for the Channel Islands, the Scottish islands, Scilly, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man, we tell you the delivery cost before you pay, so message us your postcode on the Contact page or our Get a quote page. Choose Saver and these labels leave us after 7 working days; Express brings that down to 3. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. On its opening option, Allergen Labels leaves us after 7 working days on Saver.

Is there a quicker turnaround for these labels?

Work back from the day you need them. Express takes 3 working days to get Allergen Labels out, against 7 on Saver, and costs £30.47 on the opening option rather than £26.31. Add up to three working days for the courier, plus any time you need to finish the file. Cutting it fine? Put your date in the question box before you order.

How many pixels does a photo need to print well on these labels?

Roughly 602 pixels across and 602 down for a 51 × 51 mm design, which is 300 dpi. Things read at arm's length need that 300 dpi at full size to stay crisp. Text and logos are safest as vector art, which never goes fuzzy. Pictures saved from a website or social media are nearly always too small, and our file check will point out any that could print blurred.

Will anyone look at my file before it is printed?

Every file gets a human check for size, bleed and resolution, and we contact you about any problem before printing. With the online designer, what you see on screen is what gets printed. Nobody can know your details better than you, so double-check names, numbers and dates: we print what is supplied, and work begins once the order and file are confirmed. Sizes for these labels go from 62 × 33 mm at the small end to 51 × 51 mm, 2 in all.

Our wording is not finished yet. Can I still pay now and send it later?

Yes. Pay now and add the file afterwards: uploading after ordering is allowed, so you do not have to wait for the final version. If a volunteer, friend or designer is preparing it, they can send the finished file to you to upload, or get in touch through our Contact page quoting your order number. Nothing goes to print until the file arrives and has been checked, so if there is a date to hit, get the artwork over as soon as you can. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 62 × 33 mm.

What information can go on Allergen Labels?

In short, the printed details line for Allergen Labels reads: optional logo, phone, company name, write-on lines and label wording. Anything unusual in mind? Send the details through our quote form and someone will reply. The Specifications tab lists every other detail.

I am not a designer. What if the file I send turns out to be unusable?

You will not be left guessing. Each uploaded file is opened and looked over by a member of the team, and problems such as low-resolution pictures, no bleed or the wrong page size are sent back to you to fix before printing. Nothing is printed until a file passes that check, and you can send a corrected one. If you have no file, you can build the design for these labels in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Sizes for these labels go from 62 × 33 mm at the small end to 51 × 51 mm, 2 in all.

Which file formats can I upload?

A PDF made at the size you ordered works best, with the fonts embedded or turned into outlines. AI, EPS and SVG are fine too, as are high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF images. Word, PowerPoint or Canva designs can be used, but save them out as a full quality PDF where you can. Attach up to 3 files of up to 25 MB each on the product page, or order first and send them afterwards; we email you a link. If you have no file, you can build the design for these labels in our free online designer and check every detail before ordering. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 62 × 33 mm.

Once I finish designing these labels online, is the file mine to keep?

Yes. Order printing with an online design and a full resolution PDF comes with it; after payment you can download it from your confirmation email or from My Account. Just want the file? Finish the design and buy the print-ready PDF on its own for £9.99. As digital content, it cannot be cancelled once the download begins. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 62 × 33 mm.

How well does the glue on Allergen Labels hold?

Straight from the details for Allergen Labels: Permanent. The rest of the spec sits in the Specifications tab further down the page. Want it done another way? Describe it in the question box or on our quote form, and a person will let you know if it can be done.

Material on Allergen Labels: how do the choices differ?

The material option has 3 settings: waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or gloss paper (indoor). It is what your design gets printed onto. Switch between them on the page and the total updates straight away, so you can see what each one adds. For these labels, the material can be Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); or Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or Gloss paper (indoor). Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31.

Could Allergen Labels be made in a size that is not listed?

Straight from the details for Allergen Labels: Other sizes on request (ask for a quote). The rest of the spec sits in the Specifications tab further down the page. Want it done another way? Describe it in the question box or on our quote form, and a person will let you know if it can be done.

Would Allergen Labels be useful for cafes, restaurants and food businesses?

Yes: Allergen Labels sit in our Food & Hospitality section, next to other things cafes, restaurants and food businesses buy for kitchens, counters and dining areas. Prices begin at £26.31. 2 sizes are listed, starting at 62 × 33 mm. The material choices are waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor); matt paper (indoor, easy to write on); or gloss paper (indoor). Also in that section: Business Cards and Caution This Machine Runs Hot Sign. One basket can hold the lot, and delivery is free once the goods reach £100.

Is it worth buying printed labels rather than writing on plain ones?

Usually, yes. Your firm's name, contact details and registration number come already printed on each one, so months later a tenant, client or inspector can see whose work it was and get in touch. Every label matches, and the lines left for handwriting remind you what to fill in on the day. You can begin with one of the smaller packs to try them out. You will also find these labels in our Food & Hospitality section.

What is the best spot for these labels, and how do I make them stay?

Choose a place that is clean, dry and easy to spot, either on the item itself or right beside it. Give the surface a wipe to shift dust or grease, then smooth the label down from its centre towards the edges. The glue is permanent and not made for moving, so settle on the spot before you peel.

How would I decide between Custom Logo Stickers and Allergen Labels?

Comparing Allergen Labels with Custom Logo Stickers, this is what changes. Sizes: 2 on this page, the smallest 62 × 33 mm, and 2 on the other, the smallest 60 × 49 mm oval. Opening price: £26.31 on this page and £21.18 on the other. Go by the spot it is going in and how long it needs to last, then open both pages and compare the live totals.

Who looks after me once I have bought Allergen Labels?

You deal with FatPrint the whole way through. Once you order, somebody checks the artwork, Allergen Labels are printed specially for your order, and a courier delivers them with a tracking link by email. Need to ask something along the way? Use the question box here or the Contact page and a real person answers.

Which cards do you take, and is paying online safe?

You pay by debit or credit card when you check out, and you can do it as a guest without making an account. Card details are handled by Stripe, a specialist payment company, so the full card number never reaches us or sits on our system. Printing starts after payment goes through and your file has been checked. If your group needs a price agreed before anyone pays, ask for a quote instead. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

We need a few different designs. Do they each need their own order?

One checkout covers the lot. Add a basket line for every design, attach the right file to each, then pay once. You pay a single delivery charge of £7.95 for the whole order, or nothing if the goods add up to £100 or more. Repeating one design on another line? Choose the artwork choice that points to a file already in the basket, and no second design fee is charged. Sizes for these labels go from 62 × 33 mm at the small end to 51 × 51 mm, 2 in all.

Our club needs a big batch of labels, or an odd size. Can you price it?

Our Get a quote page is the place, and it also handles delivery to Northern Ireland and the islands. For anything the page cannot do, tell us the size, number, material, date and postcode on Get a quote, add a file if you have one, and we email a price back. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. Sizes for these labels go from 62 × 33 mm at the small end to 51 × 51 mm, 2 in all.

Do I have to register before I can buy?

No. Guest checkout is fine, and card payments go through Stripe, so a debit card or a credit card both work. If you choose to open an account while checking out, My Account keeps your past orders and the print files of anything you designed online. Guest or not, you get an email confirming the order and another with tracking once it is sent. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. For reference, Allergen Labels are listed in 2 sizes, the smallest being 62 × 33 mm.

Can I send these labels back if I no longer need them?

Not for a change of mind. These labels are made for your order, and goods made to your specification fall outside the 14-day cancellation right (reg. 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). You can still cancel and get all your money back before production begins. Anything faulty, damaged or wrong is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we reprint it or refund you. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. Nothing is printed ahead of time: each label is made to order for you.

The parcel turned up damaged. How do I sort it out?

Look everything over when it arrives. If something is damaged or missing, contact us within 48 hours through the contact form, with your order number and photos of both the item and the packaging. Please keep hold of it until we reply; we then sort out a reprint or a refund. Your legal rights stay the same, as the returns page sets out. Before delivery, these labels cost from £26.31. Choose Saver and these labels leave us after 7 working days; Express brings that down to 3. Material choices for Allergen Labels: Gloss paper (indoor), Matt paper (indoor, easy to write on) or Waterproof polypropylene (matt laminated, indoor and outdoor).

Will my logo colours come out the same as on screen?

Very close, but not always identical. A screen glows, print reflects light, so a small difference is normal. Sending CMYK artwork keeps it nearest; RGB is changed to CMYK before printing and the brightest greens, blues and oranges can look a touch flatter. For an exact brand colour, give us the Pantone reference and we get as close as the material allows. Sizes for these labels go from 62 × 33 mm at the small end to 51 × 51 mm, 2 in all.

Which mistakes does the online designer warn me about?

Spelling is the one thing it cannot judge, so read that yourself. It does catch placeholder words nobody changed, tiny lettering, anything drifting beyond the safe area or near the trim, blurry logos and photos, and objects covering words. Issues that would spoil the print stop you finishing until they are sorted; lighter warnings you may choose to accept. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 62 × 33 mm.

Can I design these labels first and show the committee before we pay?

Yes. The online designer is free to use, so you can build the design, look at it on screen and share it round before anyone commits. The preview carries a watermark on screen only; it never appears on the printed item. When everyone is happy, finish the design and order. What you see is what gets printed, so check names, dates and numbers together first. Make the artwork for these labels the same size as the one you order, such as 62 × 33 mm.
